After months and moths of false leads and denied rumors we finally have some concrete casting information for True Detective Season 2. Colin Farrell himself confirmed the rumor that he’ll be starring as one of the detectives in the second installment of the HBO series telling Ireland’s The Sunday World:

I’m doing the second series. I’m so excited. . .I know it will be eight episodes and take around four or five months to shoot. I know very little about it, but we’re shooting in the environs of Los Angeles which is great. It means I get to stay at home and see the kids.

Farrell is only the first of four rumored leads to officially confirm his involvement with two other actors, Taylor Kitsch and Vince Vaughn, still in the mix but not confirmed. Kitsch would play another detective investigating “the bloody murder of a corrupt city businessman found dead the night before a major transportation deal” and Vaughn would play a shady businessmen at the center of the corruption.

The bigger mystery continues to be who will play the third detective on the case and the female lead of the series? In recent interviews, Elisabeth Moss has pushed back a bit against the earlier rumors that she was a lock for the role. Last week The Wrap not only reported that the 7 actresses in the running are Jessica Biel, Brit Marling, Oona Chaplin, Kelly Reilly, Malin Ackerman, Jaime Alexander, and Rosario Dawson, but also gave Dawson the upper hand in the race. Who do you see fitting the role that’s been described as: “A Monterey sheriff with a troubled past that has led her to a gambling and alcohol addiction?” More importantly, I suppose, who do you think would work best opposite Farrell? Here, again, Farrell’s Alexander co-star Dawson might have the advantage.

If True Detective Season 2 does wind up being an unofficial Alexander reunion, we hope Farrell’s blonde wig doesn’t come along for the ride.
