Famous American celebrity, Jermaine Jackson Tuesday announced his intention to stage a music concert in The Gambia on May 29th, 2010.

Jermaine, an elder brother of Michael Jackson who is currently in the country with his wife Halima Rashid Jackson made this disclosure yesterday at a press briefing held at the Coco Ozone Hotel in Bijilo. Scheduled to coincide with the 5th Kanilai International Festival, the live concert that will be held at the Independence Stadium in Bakau, according to Jermaine will be a tribute to his late brother Michael Jackson, world’s pop superstar who died last year at age 50.

The concert, he went on, will also be staged as part of celebrations marking the 45th birthday anniversary of the architect of Vision 2020, the president of the Republic of The Gambia, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh on May 25th, 2010. "We are very happy and overjoyed because coming to The Gambia is coming home. We want to have a tribute for my brother Michael Jackson during the 5th Kanilai International Festival. What is going to happen is that I am going to perform and I want all Gambians to know that I am going to bring 40 years of music from the Jackson Family," stated Jermaine Jackson, who converted to the Islamic faith in 1989 after a trip to the Middle East. "I am most honoured to be here during the time of President Jammeh's birthday which we will also celebrate well. So this is going to be a wonderful time and we are going to have a lot of fun, a lot of great music," stated Jermaine.

Having travelled wide and far in Africa, Jermaine told journalists that he felt deeply touched as an African coming to The Gambia, saying it has given him a "sense of being back home." He stated that being in the country is a wonderful feeling given the fact that the country is part of his history. He also declared that he is part of the tribe that was taken away but has been able to come back to inspire and be a partner of the growth of The Gambia.

Explaining that he is also in the country to help President Jammeh in what he is trying to achieve for the country, even though it cannot be possible in a year, Jermaine described the Gambian leader as one whose devotion to Islam has touched him very well. He further described The Gambia as a country with lot of inspirations and determination, hinting that it is blessed with a leader who can lead its people to whatever positive things the citizens wish. Having gone round some parts of the country and visited many schools, Jermaine revealed that they have the Jackson Academy of Performing Arts School, which they hope to construct here with the objective of giving education to Gambians in diverse areas of art and music.

On why the tribute of his late brother in The Gambia, the American celebrity said the tribute is part of his family's legacy, saying "it is very important not to let Michael Jackson's music die, but to continue to honour him". He stated that organisiing a tribute for his late brother, whose untimely death shocked the entire world, "is a way of keeping his legacy alive in a dignified way". Also speaking at the press conference, Alhaji Momodou Sanyang, the director general of the Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS) who doubles as the chairman of the organising committee of the Kanilai International Festival assured the general public through the media that this year's festival will be with a difference, saying "it is going to be the biggest festival ever."

He said the presence of such a famous world celebrity in the person of Jermaine Jackson at the Kanilai International Festival chairman speaks volumes of the magnitude of the upcoming event that will showcase the cultural diversity of not only The Gambia but beyond. Disclosing that they have a lot of surprises for the event, Sanyang told journalists that invitations have been sent globally. "Right now as I am talking to you, those who are responsible for disseminating information about the festival on the internet through

www.kanilaiinternationalculturalfestival.com have done their jobe," he disclosed, while using the opportunity to call on all and sundry to grace the festival. Other speakers at the occasion who are among the organisers of Jermaine's concert, revealed that the tribute will attract many high-profile celebrities.

i dont know whether to laugh or cry .try going home and raising your kids

Jermain is a joke !!First it was he was doing one in vienna, them he moved to wembley and said the date for the tribute sometime this June, we're so close to the date, yet no tickets are being sold. Now hes doing one in Gambia, just admit it Jerm. you're all talk !!

Just can't take Jermaine seriously anymore, lets face it, these tributes concerts are never gonna happen.

A concert will only happen when Prince and Paris organise something when they're older.

Those 2 could probably organise something now better than Jermaine ever could. And Jermaine wonders why he didnt have a successful carer. He cant complete a project.

I'm confused. First vienna, then it was cancelled then london and we hear nothing and now in gambia. Why does jermaine embarrass himself like this? don't announce something unless it's well planned. I'll believe there is a tribute concert when I see one. The family should make 1 grand tribute that michael deserves instead of multiple half planned ones or like someone said wait until prince and paris are old enough to help plan one even if it's over a decade from now at least it might actually happen.

its gonna end up like all his projects .. gonna be a huge success

"it is very important not to let Michael Jackson's music die, but to continue to honour him"
Michael Jackson's music will never die it doesn't need u

Nothing to add. Really.

So basically all this boils down to is a solo performance by Jermaine Jackson wherein he will sing Jackson FAMILY songs at a festival, which will ALSO celebrate the birthday of the president of Gambia.

Not much of a tribute, in my opinion.

I guess this is the best he could come up with after that fiasco in Vienna. I mean, after that embarrassment, no high-profile artist would have become involved with Jermaine. I hope the fans who actually thought he would have been able to pull something off in London this summer are not too disappointed.

ill give him some credit this time cause hes not organising it himself just jumping on the bandwaggon of another event. and saying he will perform a tribute as apart of the event.so this time it might actually happen cause all hes gotta do is turn up and perform himself. thats the actual tribute!. whether it does happen is another issue.

Good luck jermaine in your endeavours, if this is what you intend to do, i wish you luck and no ill will .
and we all miss your brother michael , very, very much .:huggy:

Yeh.

Um, ok then Jermaine. A concert in the Gambia? What the hell?

Sounds like he is just performing there, not staging a concert.

Nice for Gambia, I guess.

oh good lord, well it looks like Jermaine finally found a financial backer for his tribute projetc. The Vienna concert didnt happen cos the backer pulled out, the London concert didnt happen cos the backer went bankrupt. So the only way this project was going to happen was if Jermaine found someone to sponser the project and the only one willing to do that is in GAMBIA!!! Says it all really about Jermaines credability in the muisc industry, when no major financial backer is interested in working with him. As elusive has said, it looks like THIS might actaully happen, cos all it involves is Jermaine himself, gatecrashing an already established event and performing a tribute to Michael.

Oh please, back off of Jermaine. Let him do what he want to do now. I find the hypocrisy in here mind blowing. All of mess towards Jermaine was the same mess folks did to Michael who disagreed with him, yeah people are giving Mj the love fest now that he is dead but the same mess was done to him when he was alive. People are full of Bull.

No offense, but Jermaine should have just went out there and did his OWN thing a long, long time ago.

When he first asked Michael to join the brothers in a reunion tour and Michael said no, Jermaine should have jumped into his Plan B, instead of waiting all of these years for Michael to say yes.

And you have to admit, good-bad-or-indifferent, Jermaine played himself with that whole Vienna thing. High profile artist were running in the opposite direction, when they saw Jermaine coming. LOL!

Maybe Gambia will end up being the "kick-start" he needs and so desperately desires.

At least he's trying to get something done in Michael's memory instead of sitting around on an internet forum whining. He sure is determined. :) Can't fault him for that.

The whole world is just waiting for it!
It's supposed to be during some festival in Gambia, so it's probably going to happen. He'll perform, probably some of the songs of his much more famous and successful Brother, 'cause - let's face it - he even titles himself as a "brother of the legendary King of Pop". Well, he can do whatever he wants, I don't care.

Thank you.Plus, Michael was his BROTHER who Jermaine GREW UP with.

True!! but what was done was done. That is in the past and the only think Jermaine and everyone can do now is go forward WHATEVER that maybe.

I'm not sure how much he knows about this president..

Sure, the african continent has leaders worse than Jammeh but i wouldnt call him the best leader of that continent either!
Jammeh has done a lot of stupid things and is mainly helping himself (and not his people), if i were a artist i'd stay away from his politics.
