Rate this book
Will a cure for humanity be the death of her?

For biology professor Riley Adair, the stakes are high—and very personal—when she discovers a potential cure for dementia. News of her groundbreaking progress leaks out, and the consequences turn deadly. Someone is determined to claim her work and will stop at nothing—including kidnapping—to get it. But Riley’s abductors make a critical error, leaving her with no memory at all . . .

Counterstrike, a covert search and rescue team, is called in to save her. While her rescue goes smoothly, Riley is left defenseless against powerful enemies who still want the formula locked inside her brain. Dr. Noah Kimball, the agency’s medic, risks everything—including his own life—to protect her. As danger mounts, so does a passion they can’t deny.

In a race against time, Riley fights to recover her memory, while Noah fears he won’t be able to save the woman he has grown to love—and know—better than she knows herself.

Write what you know. I've taken this advice to heart, creating characters from small towns and plots that unfold in the great outdoors. A recent empty nester, I grew up in a tiny Northern California town and currently live in beautiful Lake Tahoe with my husband. When I'm not busy writing, I hike or snowshoe in the woods around my home. Discover the beauty of nature woven into my fast-paced romantic suspense novels.

The series was established in Fatal Encounter, which allowed this story to feel stronger to me. It was smoother, more intense, and I knew the players.

Biology professor Riley Adair is working on a cure for dementia. It is a project that has personal importance to her. When we meet her, she is in the process of deleting all of her researching just moments before she kidnapped.

Enter, Counterstrike. Dr. Noah Kimball, the agency’s medic known only as Patch by the team is on the extraction team to rescue Riley. In their attempts to find out where she has hidden her research the kidnappers have given Riley a head injury. When they arrive she has lost her memory. The only thing she knows is the man who helped save her… Patch/Noah.

This was an intense ride! Lordy but Noah was sweet, sexy, smart, and good with a gun. Even though the team rescued Riley, whoever took her is waiting in the wings to grab her and someone is feeding them intel. We as the reader are privy, but the author threw in some twists as she amped up the danger.

The romance had a slow burn, and I enjoyed the build up. Their attraction felt genuine and I enjoyed the moments the couple had getting to know each other. The romance and time spent with the members of the Counterstrike team and some pups added balance to the fast-paced suspense. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

Jannine Gallant pushes the danger quotient sky-high with her newest Counterstrike novel. Her heroine, Riley Adair, is brilliant enough to find a cure for dementia, but she doesn’t have the capability to protect her knowledge from the bad guys. Enter the awesome staff of Counterstrike, a private security agency. If only she’d known Noah and his cohorts before she was taken, tortured, and lost her memory. What an irony-a scientist who’s learned how to curtail memory loss, can’t remember what she knows! Greedy villains are everywhere in Lethal Memory, keeping Riley from regaining her memory and trusting men like Noah. A fabulous page turner with love and hope at the center.

When a Dr. Riley Adair is close to finding a cure for dementia, a shadowy organization comes after her. Do they want to suppress or steal her findings? All she knows is she is attacked, abducted, and assaulted. To the kidnappers dismay, their battery has caused her to lose her memory.

Noah Kimball, aka, Patch, is the medical officer as part of an elite extraction team called Counterstrike. When Riley is rescued by the team, she is under Patch's care. While trying to recover her memories, she's making new ones with the handsome and compassionate doctor.

Will she recover her memory or will the assailants succeed in stealing her work? No spoilers from me, you will have to read the book to find out how many plot twists Ms. Gallant works into this story! I give it five (5) shiny stethoscopes and highly recommend this read.

Book two of the Counterstrike Novel series is sure to delight fans of Ms. Gallant. As always, she weaves great suspense with romance and this time throws in the tough subject of dementia. Riley is a biology professor with amnesia. Locked away in her mind could be a cure for dementia. Her knowledge nearly gets her killed before the Counterstrike team rescues her. While her passion grows with one of the rescuers, her fight to regain her memory is coupled with the race to recover her cure and save her grandfather.

A terrific second book in the Counterstrike series! The plot line is an innovative "what if" with a twist, and the characters are warm and relatable. I especially liked the author's detailed and well-considered treatment of Riley's amnesia. It made it easy to imagine yourself in her shoes.

3.5 stars. Very good! I’ve read this series out of order which has been totally fine.
I will say that in this book the sex was glossed over which is not an issue for some people but I look forward to the steamy sex scenes in my romantic suspense so that was lacking. Some of the dialogue between Riley and Noah felt a little...stilted...or forced? I can’t put my finger on it but it distracted me some.

Enjoyable book. The e two main characters are both driven, stubborn and sometimes frustrating... yet they work well together. A good story, some thrills, some chills, and lightheadedness provided by Stormy.
