Polypropylene containers in neon ROYGBIV shades, the rubbery Polly Pocket clothes we used to chew on as kids, Doc Martens brand new in the box, melon ramune gone flat at room temperature + the little glass marble acting as the bottle's stopper. The cashmeran note in the base is as gentle and fuzzy as the warm static you would feel pressing your plump little hands to the TV after it ran cartoons all day. It's equally playground equipment and edgy Berghain-esque sex appeal; both nostalgic and futuristic, simultaneously soft and screechingly loud. It triggers my migraine-prone sensibilities, but for some reason, I can't pull my nose away from my wrist. It's kind of beautifully done.

If anyone in NA has another Nasomatto scent that they want to trade for this please PM me!

liquoriceee

Went home funny and a bit tipsy in the cloud of Fantomas all over, my mom met me with the words: why do you smell so dirty and vulgar?
That what I think is the most accurate description

Urbanskis

Smells like a toddler chewing on his plastic cars, that he has spilled milk over. Someone is eating melons and grandma is chewing on caramel. Some weird drag race smell in the opening.

Tshahb

It smells like an experiment where some sort of bionic lifeform has been created, the intersection of electronics, plastic and biology.... synthetic biology. Love it.

(perhaps the amorous robots from All Is Full of Love would smell like this)

MrMarkuson

I remember going to smell it directly when it came out at Printemps Hausseman in Paris, but I had never bought it until today, you immediately feel the Nasomatto touch, I smell Pardon, Duro and Blamage in it , I smell patchouli, cashmeran and synthetic sandalwood, I smell plastic, melon and rubber... it's not a perfume but an experience, I see it as the final touch of the Nasomatto series (that's my feeling) like a signature on a paint.
One thing is certain Alessandro Gualtieri has definitively changed niche perfumery with a unique olfactory experience never seen before.
Once you have smelled one of its perfumes it no longer leaves your mind and remains engraved, there is a kind of incomprehension the first time then you return to it until you tame it and accept it (once again it is is my feeling).

It's 2am. You've been driving on a large highway for hours in the middle of a thunderstorm. You pull over and walk into an empty gas station. You suddenly realize in you're in a dream. That's what this smells like.

The comments are right about the notes: it's melons, plastics, and asphalt. Wearing this makes me feel like I'm in a David Lynch film.

Brilliant.

Rubber, Plastic, Smoke, Carmel, and Melon. Amazing Sharp unique scent that reminds me of a gas station smell. It can be worn in any season and It has outstanding sillage and longevity. Absolutely amazing fragrance.

I know better than this, but I purchased a bottle of Fantomas from Nasomatto without having sampled it first, and I'm surprised to say...I actually rather enjoy it? It reminds me of ELdO's Ghost In The Shell, that bit of speculative lactonic peach, but I then realized what I was smelling in Fantomas was more along the lines of those Japanese milky honeydew melon hard candies. There's also a bit of sterile, plastic-y musk and digitally-rendered powdery porcelain heliotrope, and the more I sniff my wrist, the more I am convinced that this creamy floral/vinyl musk is what the uncanny valley of a really expensive sex doll smells like. I've not smelled any sex dolls, either of the budget or the big-spender variety, but I have got a big imagination, and I'm pretty sure I know what I know. Anyway, I like it!

RikkiStar

I tested the fragrance at Christmas and was captivated. I want to purchased a full bottle but never ended up doing so. Fast forward to the middle of April, I pull out a shirt that I haven't worn since Christmas. Applied purfume, went to bed and the next morning awoke to a pleasant aroma that I couldn't quite place. Turns out that the aroma is in fact Fantomas! The shirt had been laundered and sitting since December, had a different perfume applied and then in the morning the shirt still smelt like Fantomas. If that isn't beast mode I don't know what is! I have been reminded why I was intrigued with this perfume.

chrisaied

I heard a bit of plastic and gummy bears. Just sweetly gourmand scent, not harsh as I expected. Was very light and I reuse it every hour.

cloudk

initially, I really smell the funk of tropical fruits- and cashmere. I also smell vaguely some earthiness too. The plastic/rubber is very faint. Somehow all of these notes totally make sense together in the fragrance. I think there's something both beautiful and ugly about this perfume. It sort of has an old car smell to it- like a car with leather seats and candy stuck in the floor on a cold rainy day. The driver was also a light smoker and did it with the windows rolled down. I love a fragrance that can capture an image so perfectly. I am glad I got a sample of this. Though, not wearable and very funky

Daneait

I went to a store becouse of this fragrance i wanted to try it so much and maybe buy it. From the first smell (on paper) i did not like it the burned palstic was not very pleaseant. But when i eventually tried it on skin the sweetnes from the melon and caramel kicked in. But it isnt regular sweetnes like in other fragrances. Its diffrent but in a way i like it. So its sweet with the plastic an you can smell the latex too and it is too strong. For me the latex was not pleaseant but later it dissapears. and way in the back is the patchouli caramel and others. On the dry out you can smell the burned rubber and its strong compared to the other notes. When i spray it on my hand and rub it agains it is only the burned rubber and i love it. Personally i love this fragrances but it is not for every outfit and occasions. I can imagine many people that will comment on it in a bad way. I give it a 9/10.

Muzzer27

This is an interesting, yet weird scent with an off-putting opening, but lovely drydown. Highly experimental, love or hate fragrance. At first I was bewildered and confused, the opening made me almost gag, and I decided to sell, since there was no way I'm goning to wear it. But today I gave it another shot - one last chance to stay on the team. I sprayed it once delicately on my wrist and let it sit for a while. This time the start wasn't gagging, but still peculiar, and soon all this gave was to a beautiful, soothing and warm dry down. 'Oh boy' - I though to myself. 'You're staying with me'. To wrap up this tear wrenching story - this perfume stays on the verge of being almost unwearable but if you are not afraid to experiment, think out of the box, and also if you don't mind smelling the first opening hour like a newly opened PC graphic card - this scent is for you!

gfrazhe2001

It’s ok. I blind bought it and I would give it a 4/10. Opening is very melony/sweet and light plastic. Dry down is only plastic.

majkoletnik

If anyone in the EU is looking to trade, PM me.

French Fancy

How amazing that a scent can appear so different to people! To me it is beautiful, sweet caramel accord that is not sickly but sensual and grown up. The earthy note disappears quickly and a warm almost carnal note remains.
A compliment getter if it works with your chemistry.
Lasting power is phenomenal.
Try it and give it an hour to develop.

Danio boguslawski

Pretty unwearable and very weird but woah. Very cool scent profile and although it's weird, I really like it. Longevity is very good and the scent for me is very very cool 8.9/10 (very subjective with Fantomas as most won't agree with me )
Smells very good but in a different way than most fragrances, in more of an art way then perfume you would wear way. I get almost exclusively the smokiness and rubber but I still really enjoy it even though I'm generally not a fan of ultra niche style perfumery.

emil1724

actually horrendous. smells exactly like latex, with a little melon if you search for it. vile, the worst release from the house.

Ttan_o

Fentomas immediately caught me off guard with its unique scent profile—there’s a hint of smoky mystery blended with a crisp freshness that I’ve never encountered in a perfume before. It is like wearing a secret, a nod to a futuristic world that’s both exhilarating and slightly out of reach. I guess this is what a time traveller from the future smells like.

Tudorando

I smelt this about 7 hours ago and I can still feel it on my hand.

I heard a lot of bad things about this but when I smelt it I was surprised.

First of all this smells like a melon explosion with sime smoky notes, I really also felt the fruity and ozonic notes in this. However the plastic and rubber notes were hardly noticeable on my skin .It’s very very good, especially for people who like fruity based scents.

I understand why some people don’t like it, it’s very unique and hard to “take in”.

Honestly, for me it is an incredible scent and definitely recommend

fubar

Unwearable but in a cool way. This smells like a chewed bottle cap, or chewed plastic.
With fragrances like this, it's important to think about how its even possible to make this scent.

Gabbefragrance2010

I really enjoy this! Got a sample of every nasomatto when I bought my silver musk. And I must say that this takes the number 2 spot in the nasomatto line for me easily. Opens up with a really plastic smell ( in a good way ) I get good projection in the first 6 hours then it becomes a skin scent pretty much. One of the weaker nasomattos but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. If I would describe this I would say that this smells like a toy from your childhood. Or your childhood room. Idk it reminds me so much of a moment but I can’t tell what. Really nostalgic scent. Kinda easy to wear. Don’t know the insperation behind this but it most be something with “Childhood memories” Kinda gives me 19s vibes.

emilis

Smells like plastic toys with a bit of sweetness and melon, really nostalgic scent.

Inkz_

All I get is melon from start to finish. I had 4-5 hours of projection and then it became a skin scent. I get a lovely fresh melon scent that smells as if I have just cut open a fresh melon. This highlights how fickle your nose can be. I was expecting a scent that’d place me on a space shuttle where there is jet fuel and remnants of your transition into space. But, I feel as though I am home in my all white kitchen with the a/c on 20 degrees C about to eat a melon mid afternoon.

Ma_holl

It smells like having a scoop of bubble gum ice cream at a gas station. You get artificial cream and plastic sweetness with a distant metallic smell and a touch of mysteriously wet concrete. People are right to compare it to Universal Flowering’s Holy Hell, but here it’s all intentional synthetic.

bamba21

smells like a bubblegum that you just started chewing and you are drinking some bubblegum juice too

deusaderit

Wow, just wow. It doesn’t get more niche, obscure and interesting than fantomas. Melon along with a hint of other fruits mixed with gunpowder and hot asphalt. Has this plastic vibe to it, like cheap chinese toys, and a slight funky wet mossy ground vibe. It pops out at you, very loud fragrance, and grabs your attention immediately. Personally love this and will defend it until i die. Performance very good too.

Philly Babs

Although I can understand why people find it revolting, I love this fragrance. It's the olfactory equivalent of the song "Introducing the Band" by Suede. It smells like a sci-fi lullaby.

ndelaparte

Fantomas is the strangest and most challenging scent I own. I blind bought it based on the notes and I really enjoy it. It smells like a tiny electrical fire that has melted some plastic, like you overheated a VCR and it has begun to smoke. There is a sweetness that somehow does not soften the weirdness for me at all. It is reminiscent of VOCs on the dry down. You could not be blamed for finding this off putting, even in small doses. I wear Fantomas when I want to smell futuristic, and I imagine it is what an android might smell like.

Dmiddy

Delectable rubbery melon. A standout from this house.

PauliBoine

It's like sniffing a goat

Zack_Zucco

This stuff absolutely slaps. When I first smelt it, I was intrigued but mostly repulsed. Fast forward a few weeks and I tried it again and I don’t know why, but it became one of my favourite fragrances ever after that. I don’t know what happened. Nevertheless, this fragrance is so unique, without being too outlandish. It is melony, smoky, rubbery, sweet masterpiece of a fragrance that should be exhibited in a museum if there was a museum for perfumes. The longevity is crazy. I get 10 hours easily with this thing, with a moderate to loud projection for the first three of those hours before it becomes slightly softer (people around me are still able to smell it though). This is an all year scent in my opinion, although do not go too crazy with it in summer because I can imagine it giving people a headache in the high heat. I don’t recommend this for people who have not been well acquainted with artistic perfumery, but for those who have and like creative, different scents, this will be right up your alley. I give this one a 9/10.

reecewagner

What am I missing with this fragrance? I get no plastic, no rubber, no smoke, no death, no nightmares - to my nose this is a slightly spicy fruity scent that leans a little middle eastern and a little feminine

Not sure what the hype is about

borists

Plastic ? What plastic ? I only get sweet nice melon with gummies . Absolutely fantastic and so unique nothing like ive ever tried before with amazing longevity and good silage . If you want to be unique to have a long lasting fragrance the price might be a problem but i think its worth it
Overall :
Scent :10/10
Silage : 7/10
Longevity :9:10
Cost : 5/10
Versatility : 7/10
Final rating :9/10

This smells like the song Burn Rubber by SOPHIE
10/10

kindney

I absolutely hate this fragrance, it drives me nearly to the point of gagging every time I take a whiff of it BUT - hear me out - for some reason it's just so fun to smell. I couldn't let go of the sample strip. I'm both disgusted and intrigued each time. The amount of layers on this thing! Always fun to feel the scent of burning childhood dreams. It's like sitting in a room full of children playing with My Little Ponies, but in the middle of World War 3. Somehow I think it's symbolic of our times. 10/10 will never buy this thing but I do appreciate its existence

Sniffenjoyer

Very strong cantaloupe with some hints of rubber and Javanol which I think is supposed to read like plastic? I don't think this is what I expected from Nasomatto but this is exactly what I imagined Britney Spear's Blissful Fantasy would be if it were any good. I will say, I wish the plastic and rubber stood out on me, I get occasional hints of it but it's mostly just a very nice melon scent. Best melon forward fragrance I have tried 8/10. Just wish there was more grit to it.

PrincipeFilip

Might be the funniest fragrance i have ever smell.

Each time you smell it, it smells different.

Gummies, rubbers, lemon, concrete, ice cream…

Alessandro is truly genious

marceldijkman

I deleted a long version of when I first smelled this. It was about a 1971 plastic IKEA lamp, an attic, aliens, s3x, milk, a concrete road, chrome rims, a musty army tent and skin. 2nd time the plastics seem gone. The musty tent is here though. Still love this frag but not sure about an occasion to wear it.

Skinterpreter

The impression based on wearing a tiny spritz of the perfume the entire day for the very first time (FB purchased):
This fragrance is insane. The picture I get in my mind while wearing this is looking at a massive concrete monument in a few meters distance in a very hot, dry weather while getting a persistent smell of melting sweet melon candies to my nose. 🍉🍬🏭🏢🌅 There is sweetness and a hint of something smoky, concrete-like...maybe it's the burning plastic or the gun powder note? That note is quite ongoing, too, and persists until the end, so be aware of that. :) not super loud or irritating though.
The perfume smells almost brutalist, yet strangely candy-like, almost gourmand. Very strange yet so attractive. 😜 Also, the melon note is quite artificial and as I said, candy like... and yes, I totally love that as I love artificial, almost synthetic, plastic fruit, candy notes in perfumes, whether it goes for melon, strawberry, raspberry, peach, mango or banana. In my opinion, the fruit notes don't need to be realistic or natural although I know many people would prefer that (I noticed that criticism of the synthetic fruit notes in the reviews of Montale perfumes and I didnt quite understand, but to each their own I guess). "Natural" wouldn't suit the character or the atmosphere this perfume creates anyway. :)
The longevity and sillage seem to be quite impressive, too. I said in the beginning I only had a tiny little spritz. :)
I would definitely recommend to try it first before buying, but at the same time I do find the perfume quite likeable.
I can't stop sniffing my arm, getting acquainted with this strange, yet fascinating scent. Definitely one of my most interesting purchases. :) unconventional, enjoyable and unique.
Very nice bottle and overall presentation, too.

albertguy

very divisive, i personally like it. looove that plastic note that it gives off. idk if i would buy it, though.

EdwardHeden

So cool

Esna

If the color NEON BLACK existed, this would be it and since black is my favorite color, Neon Black would be my favorite shade of black; dark but vibrant, a total contradiction like me. Neon plastic, smokey, strange but amazing wearable. I love plastic notes, because life in plastic is fantastic. Upon smelling this, I got the prominent melon note that seemed like a perfectly ripe neon melon. Glossy highlighter colored candy, sticky caramel, gun powder and gun smoke gives me cartoonish vibes. Biggs Bunny 🐰giving Gossamer a make over: a perm with explosives, and a monster manicure, this definitely has a perm-ish smell and a strong melon lotion after getting a manicure. The desert scenery from WiIe E and the RR but in neon. Real chrome guns, silver bullets, water guns and gummy candy bullets. Borderline sickly and I almost hate it but still bipolarish love it for some unknown reason. It’s not an everyday scent type profile for me but I love it for dinner or an outing anywhere. Vibrant, unisex, lasts forever, smells expensive and definitely smells completely niche. I understand a lot of people won’t like it, its not a crowd pleaser; it’s strange and unique. Me me me👽

This forever reminds me of the year 2020 times, that’s when I first acquired it and wanted everyone in the oilfield office to smell me and give me their feedback. They all said it was the strangest scent ever but smelled good on me.

Alexey Fisher

It's not a fragrance at all.

Tshahb

It just shouldn't work, should it? But it does.

As it develops, I'm getting geranium, or at least some hint of minty geranium, and quite a lot of geosmin. The candy sweetness has been replaced with a sort of sweet soily richness.

I'm impressed with how much of a journey this fragrance is taking me on...
It certainly is unrelenting.

After two hours, it's reminding me of the drydown of Geranium Pour Monsieur. Which is fine by me, but I wasn't expecting it.

Myrtillajus

Speaking about an olfactive pyramid with Nasomatto is highly simplistic. The magic of the fragrance is extinguished, which, at least officially, has no declared pyramids, precisely to encourage the olfactory emotions, which it should stimulate.
Fantomas is a literary character, a criminal, endowed with great cunning, imagination, but also ruthless.
King of disguises, it seems that his creation was desired by a criminal collective, called Fantomax who, desiring the domination of humanity, participated in the creation of a character that made crime something attractive and intriguing: Fantomas precisely.
It is a fragrance with a thousand faces, which opens in a briefly plastic way but which, on my skin, immediately hands over to a very elegant, discreet, not too sweet melon, almost as if it were its juice, and then finally brings out masculine and woody notes . At least that's what I perceive. Wonderfully and perfectly changeable, like Fantomas.
Futurist, like the painting “Simultaneous Visions” by Boccioni.

ysl187

I have loved all the nasomatto fragrances. But this is a no for me. The candy melon smell is to much for me. I hate melon candy. So if you in to that, Yeah! It has a heavy wood base like pardon that is Nice. It smell of quality! But at the same time not because of the melon. And I am all melon out🤣

DVDEK

Extremely unique and interesting. Juicy melon in the opening with plastic and rubbery base

hotdadshusband

This is a masterpiece! Melons galore! I feel like many reviewers are saying this is very strange, but the only strange thing is truly its uniqueness. I have never smelled anything like this before. This is sweet, but not in a sickly way. This smells like juvenile fruity fragrance for pre-teens refined for the palette of a fraghead. I see other reviews mentioning a rubber note, which I have not picked up on yet - but I am hopeful I will, because I’m totally into those unique “material” smells.

Big B-U

Ok, so I just want to start things off by saying this fragrance is criminally and I mean CRIMINALLY underrated. I own about 60+ niche fragrances and this one “along with a few others” sits at the top of my collection easily without a doubt. It starts off as a smoky melon scent very unique, it smells of nothing i’ve ever put my nose on before. Once the fragrance has time to settle it gets very fruity, but not like a feminine fruity it remains unisex so either a man or woman can pull this off, the smoke and rubber notes in the background blends extremely well with the fruity notes to create this captivating concoction. The projection and longevity is insane it goes well over 8hrs off my skin. The compliments I’ve received while wearing this fragrance were nonstop! For me, this was a love at first sniff! I will be purchasing a backup bottle very soon I never want to be without this juice. It’s a 10/10 fragrance for me and it checks all the boxes

tuqqqqqd

a car (something cute and unassuming like a suzuki swift) doing burnouts but it has tires made of sour gummies

Weird smell but so familiar and good lol

postmeridiem222

What a beautiful character this is! So unique and kind. Controversial? It's only provocative by way of its strangeness. Not offensive in any harmful way.
Fantomas is unapologetically synthetic, but it doesn't try to be something it's not. This is abstract art. Delightfully weird- Not cacaphonous, rather, elegantly minimalist-weird. Mischievous.

I normally have a hard time with sweet notes but in this context I love them. The plastic/rubber note is so well executed, it's addictive. Lingers on an ambiguity of playfullness and solemnity. Obviously defies gendered and seasonal expectations. To me, it embodies the beauty of the question mark symbol.

What other reviewers haven't mentioned is the great quality of the bottle and the atomizer. It's possible to spray only the tiniest puf, which is perfect for an extract this strong. 30ml of this can really take over your life.
Give it a try if you're into post-modernism.

fmltwigs

This is such a unique disastrous scenario of a perfume omggg!
Just picture a bottle of Prada Candy that smashed on the concrete floor of an automobile warehouse. How did it get there? How did it smash?
Some of the notes aren't as perfectly harmonious on a couple sprays but it's still a wild experience for the nose.

KillFox

I will start this off with a big, on me.

Maybe I got a bad batch. But, at first, on me, it's reminiscent of Pardon but a much worse version. Like, it took the great things out of Pardon and left me with the remainder.

Mind you, I have sampled every fragrance from Nasomatto besides 4, so it is not like I am biased to Pardon. In fact Pardon was the first I sampled from them long ago, so it is just a memory in my head.

The more I smell it though, I get that burned rubber, burned plastic, sweet thing. Definitely interesting.

crushedmarigolds

this is a very... silly scent. its like if car tires were somehow made into fruity candy. its extremely nostalgic. reminds me of how a child would smell like if they played around the family car for too long on a hot day and also doused themselves in melon soap. its extremely plasticy and almost overwhelmingly sweet, but in an endearing way. but i think if i were to spray myself with any more than one spray of this i would get a headache. but as a piece of artwork, this is wonderful.

Leppinen

One of my favourites. I find it similar to Paco Rabanne's Ultraviolet Man.

DanataDante

Ok, I’m sure this reference will fly over the head of the majority audience here, but this smells like Tuxedo mask from Sailor Moon might smell?..
Not exactly manly, but boyish. Mysterious, but in a cartoonish kind of way.

From the first whiff I get lots of sugary Japanese musk melon, expensive kind. Sweet almost to the point of being unrealistic. However, pleasant and uplifting. Hard not to smile.
Later perfume settles closer to the skin, and this is then you start feeling that boyish musk and a tiny hint of metal? Plastic? Rubber?
Omg, guys, this is a Ken perfume!

Fantomas is simultaneously simple and complex. Certainly well-crafted. Nothing dark and intense about it, this is a “happy” smell. For a young, pretty boy in his early 20s or for an androgynous kind of girl.

A bit of a pretty oddity.
8/10

Myrtillajus

With Nasomatto, talking about the pyramid is highly reductive for me. The magic of the fragrance is extinguished , which , at least officially , has no declared pyramids , precisely to favor the olfactory emotions , which it is supposed to stimulate .
Fantomas is a literary character, a criminal, gifted with great cunning, imagination, but also ruthless. King of disguises, it seems that his creation was wanted by a criminal collective, called Fantomax who, desiring the dominion of humanity, participated in the creation of a character who would make crime like something attractive and intriguing: Fantomas precisely.
It is a fragrance with a thousand faces, which opens in a briefly plastic way but which on my skin immediately gives the reins to a very elegant, discreet, not too sweet melon, almost as if it were its juice, to then finally bring out masculine and woody notes . At least this I perceive. Marvelously and perfectly changeable, like the character of Fantomas.
Futurist, like the painting “Visioni Simultanee” by Boccioni.

The Wolf

I get zero caramel from this. I get plastic, gravel, petrichor and rubber. The drydown smells exactly like a fog machine on my skin. Extremely potent. Very interesting and fun to wear. Can trigger a migraine if I spray too much.

eaudemale

There’s no melon in this or it’s blended to oblivion, the brand also never mentions the notes so…
Smells like a weaker Mugler Angel with that caramel and patchouli notes and an added leather note. I don’t get any smoke. It’s weaker than expected.
If you want something way better, just get Mugler A*men.

Arber Cami

I was expecting something : screechy, loud, disgusting, but I was 'wrong''. What I get on my skin is a fruity, melon/ozonic forward fragrance with a kind of bubblegummy rubber smell (absolutely not harsh or burned/smoke smell) in the back. Quite unique and daring, worth sampling, but I wouldn't buy a botte to be honest :)

Mulletude

I went from loathe to love on this sparkling gem :) First sniff was kind of terrifying, lol. Now I can't stop breathing it in. A surprising compliment puller too. Perfect for summer. Give this one a few tries. It will be worth it!

mihais

This is really so much less controversial than I thought. Lots of beginners to niche here I guess, because to me this doesn't smell at all challenging. I think it's very pleasant and definitely people around you will think the same, it's a surprising compliment magnet.

When I smell it on skin it reminds me a lot of Pardon, probably because of the Patchouli, it's the strongest note i feel if I smell the skin directly. Not the same smell as Pardon, just takes me in that direction.

In the air it's mostly melon. I love it, I just wish it would be as strong as some people claim it is.

I expected this to be a total car crash of a scent: shocking, nauseating, toxic, etc. Especially because smoky notes usually trigger my migraines. Surprisingly this isn't bad at all! Very niche yes, and not something I'd ever wear out with the purpose of smelling good. But not bad at all. This still smells harmonious and well put together in all its strangeness to my nose. I've found many well-reviewed fragrances to smell more unpleasant!

The smokiness here reminds me of the smoky base of Aventus. Not identical, but done in a very similar way. Although ironically this is less headache-inducing to me than Aventus... On top of that smoke there's a lot of plastic. Imagine a plastic container box, or a plastic bowl that's been heated a little too long. The gunpowder note is very nice and works to balance the smoke to not be overly harsh. Also the melon is like a modifier note to my nose, less prominent than the plastic but very important for harshness removal. Not "tropical" at all to my nose.

The main image that comes to my mind is a plastic bowl of vanilla ice cream left too long in the microwave, melting into a puddle of boiling ice cream and molten plastic, almost catching fire. This is what that would smell like.

I've smelled many perfumes, but this...
This is nauseating, strong, and unique.
The first 2 seconds were wonderful, but then the smell became overpowering and something in it felt like a bio-weapon.
It's not a pleasant experience.
The combination of notes is unusual. If it were just the melon, or just the rubber maybe it was better, but together doesn't work for me.

YlangLover0912

Beautiful and modern design of the bottle , that reflection like a mirror is really tempting.

Long ago I was looking a melon perfume and another with incense accord , because I fell in love with a brand of incense that contains melon essence and that fruity-playful/depth-smoked incense is simply amazing, the ideal harmony between softness and roughness….
This perfume is all about that description.

For me , the melon note is very pleasant like perceiving a fresh slice of watery and green melon.

The rest of the notes provides depth, masculinity and sophistication.

There are other fruity accords that provides only sweetness, but not creamy or gourmandish “feeling”.

I would spritz this perfume over leather seats in a luxury car or van.

Worthy to collect , this perfume is not for beginners.

wesleyjohnfourie

My favourite of the Nasomatto project.
I think people have done a great job identifying the notes in this, so I won't parrot other reviews.
Only thing I can say is on me it turns into a skin scent quite quickly.
When layered on top of Molecule 01 it holds better, but I think at the price point these fragrances are they should be able to hold their own..

DariaFrancesca74

Unusual, multifaceted fragrance created by the genius of the great master Alessandro Gualtieri for Nasomatto in 2020. Fantômas inspired by the French literary character of Marcel Allain and Pierre Souvestre. It contains tangible plastic and rubbery notes soiled with earth and invaded by smoke immersed in an unexpected and joyful caramel blend that peeps out without being predominant. Patchouli is a dominant but not imposing note. Fantômas has a temporal olfactory evolution that is continually renewed without making a single element predominate, a succession of variable and unexpected emotions, a hypnotic, surprising, transformative fragrance. Fantomas leaves an evident trace and represents the fragrance of a sophisticated crime. Another masterpiece by the great master. Sillage and duration worthy of the name. Chapeau

Midnight_Rain

eefs

Smells like the aftermath of shoving a melon into an exhaust pipe.

Jucmorgo

Two pictures, two sceneries this perfumes brings to me:
1) 70s/space ages home office or house with plastic sheets, phone, interior design, mixed with more natural elements like wood, soil, rattan.
2) Natural soil/bacteria in wet soil after rain. And maybe a pair of rubber boots and gloves on it. But mainly a natural connection to wet soil, rain on musky skin.
I love it.

tatVC

It was really jarring first spray, very smoky and metallic in the first 2 minutes. But as it dried down it was staring to really grow on me and the melon note really started creeping in. This is a very complex and interesting scent.

Imcheap17

Smells exactly like Green Bubble by Jusbox once it dries down

camphor_lover

Mostly sweet melon, a little smoky, I didn’t pick up on much else; I think this is partly because it is not a very strong scent. It’s nice but I prefer Holy Hell for a plastic and melon scent.

Crissi06

I wanted so much to like this perfume but all I can get is melon and a very synthetic stingy smell. I almost feel like my nose burns because of it. No smoke, earth or gunpowder for me.
In terms of performance, it is very potent. Lasted more than 8 hrs on my skin.

Lex11180

The image this paints for me when I wear it is a small town old beach-front shop in the UK that's full of inflatables and plastic buckets and spades warming up in the light of the summer sun, mixed with an air of slightly melting sweets. The warmth of the old wood frames in the old building releasing a nostalgic warm wood scent, the creamy smell of warm lotion-soaked skin, all being washed over by a fresh sea breeze coming in through the door.

This scent has grown on me more than any other, and it is now one of my all time favourite perfumes.
Also whilst this is a fragrance that can be worn all year round, i implore anyone that has this to wear it during a warm summer's day where it's in the mid 20's celsius and sunny. The ozonic and melon notes really come out and sing, and the darkness in the backbone of this become more like a creamy skin vibe in the warmth.

Absolute genius perfumery.

SmokeyLady

I agree with comment below. While I never smelled hindinol there is something really strong and nauseating in this. The smell of rubber. Definitely not for summer as many say. I still think it is cool and unique though!

C-Sauce

I highly recommend Ensar’s article on hindinol. Once you smell this aroma chemical, you can’t un-smell it, and it starts to pop up everywhere, making many modern perfumes smell the same. Fantomas and Duro are two perfumes that enshrine the hindinol molecule more than any other. I acquired a sample of hindinol and I swear it smelled as similar to Fantomas as casmeran is to Absinth. The trick of Gualtieri is to make these modern monsters smell unique rather than generic. My issue with this molecule is that it induces the worst headaches and lingers long after the rest of the perfume has evaporated.

atitus

The melon is the most proeminent note. After that you smell some rubber and plastic that combined with the melon, gives you a gunpowder accord. Also can be associated with the smell of stage mist/smoke.

Vitalii1111

it is a gently sweet perfume. melon, light smoke. 8/10

montgomery99

I have a sample (in that stupid plastic-drop thing Nasomatto/Orto Parisi insists on using) and the tiniest drop is fine. But anymore and it smells like sick. Melon-y sweetness overtop something vaguely antiseptic, rubbery, and lactonic. Imagine honeydew ice cream, in a plastic cup, and the whole thing has been inexplicably microwaved and then poured over hot cement.

carmenandmonkey

I get melon ball, slightly creamy with musk. Kind of addicting and I would like to smell this again and seek other honeydew type scents!

Revisiting this scent again.. its a melon ball mixed with nishane fan your flames. Beast of a frag, maybe cause its warmer out now.

Wreckoncile

It's like strolling through the Bikini Atoll in a hazmat suit right after a nuclear test. Somehow that becomes irresistible.

Ilikewhatilike

I don’t get much smoke or gunpowder, but by gosh I get a wack of melon-plastic with a lick of rubber. Niche for sure. Extrovert for sure. Longevity for sure. Interesting for sure.
For the right personality, it’s versatile. It’s got the potential to be a journey on the skin, so I might give it a couple more wears.

Mirtlen

Smells like I'm inside a car, wearing rubber gloves and holding a fresh melon with a glass of sweet caramel milk, breathing in exhaust fumes that are wafting through the slightly open window.
Pretty unique, definitely not a crowd pleaser type, but not something bad either. It is a chameleon fragrance too, morphs and shifts constantly.
It's more like an art object to me and not something I would actually wear myself, but wouldn't mind smelling it on others or have a bottle in my collection.

Laurus

I smell plasticy sweet fruity smell. When I smell this I visualize hot pink plastic ball shaped chairs. It is just that vibe. I do not smell any caramel and vanilla. I cant say I like this.

Julia P

I don't get much notes here except for melon and earth/dirt. It's sweet, fun and bold. Surprisingly wearable, lasts forever.

Vätte

Like smelling the head of a baby but the baby is the Singularity.

evachen

It smells really really sharp at the opening!
I almost wanted to decide not to like it when I sniffed it closely, too sharp, very rubbery!
At the same time my husband stood like 2 meters away from me and saying: oh this smells nice!
So I guess this is one that you should enjoy with a little bit distance.

After 5 minutes, the melone smell is more obvious, but not so obvious as a fruity perfume. This melone smell blends really well with the rubbery smell, makes the whole thing smoother in my opinion. Right now it smells powerful but also gentle. I can already feel this one going to the comfortable direction. A short but interesting journey/twist this perfume had led me through.

So the path is getting woody here. I can detect a very slight woody element inside. Somehow I feel calm with it now……

mejevika

The opening is weird but at least a little bit interesting, whereas the drydown is a basic and unpleasant musk (cashmeran). Overhyped.

Lejaffet

I wore this when I went to go see Lady Gaga for her Chromatica Ball stadium tour this past August. Wow what a statement piece! I wanted to wear something that smelled brutalist…and man did this fit the bill. Stylish, edgy, yet elegant! I was getting compliments left and right as I was in the pit surrounded by other hot bodies and pounding house music, this perfectly fits a darker rave aesthetic. It smells like melons in front of a fog machine while at a music festival walking on wet soil. Longevity is fantastic and projection is definitely very noticeable, especially in the heat. I’m so glad I chose to wear this to such a life changing musical event as every time I smell this it immediately takes me back to Chromatica!

Josu01

I got a sample of Fantomas by Nasomatto when I bought Black Afgano. I just tried it today on the back of my hand.

The only way I can describe it, is as the olfactory equivalent of a cubist painting.

I've never smelled anything like it before. But the more I smell it, the more it makes sense... and the more I seem to like it.

LeoCoco

FIAT Panda steering wheel + melon + gunpowder.

Sometimes I get a weak earthy patchouli underneat which reminds me of Patchouli from S. M. Novella.
The first few times I tried it I only smelled milky melon with the nose-burning sensation that you get from degreasers.
The gum I smell gets somehow gunpowdery and is exactly how a car steering wheel smells.

Has a weird elegance to it.

Probably what a gumball machine possessed by Skynet would smell like.

RMPingo

Sigh. I bought this for the rubber and smoke notes, but instead I get nothing but ice cream. In fact, it's the scent you get when you walk into a place called *Ye Olde Fashioned Soda Shoppe*: cream, caramel, a little bit of old fashioned wood, maybe a hint of hot fudge. There's a lot of hype around this very expensive fragrance, but it's just whipped topping and maraschino cherries and overpriced banana splits.

Cory Alexcoco

Smells like Habenero peppers to me.
Spicy, smoky, fruity, and fresh.

Edit: After a few wearings of this perfume I have concluded it works well for me. I think this one diffuses in the air and creates a fruity, smoky, and sweet sillage that people seem to enjoy. One of my most complimented fragrances. If you sample this and like it at all I would pull the trigger on a bottle. Perfect for warm weather while still providing depth and interest.

MNH

Earthy? HOW?
Soil? WHERE?
More like sitting in a very, very warm car (that heated plastic smell) with a melon Wunderbaum dingling infront of your face. Very nice and unique!

leto

To begin with, some part of Alessandro Gualtieri's (Nasomatto, Orto Parisi) fragrances are not meant to be worn indoors. They're super strong and it might need multiple washes to lose the smell. You can easily choke yourself, let alone people around you, if you just slightly miss the adequate number of sprays. I'd say avoid testing them on you, rather use smelling strips, or else it could be that rest of your day would suck, olfactively, if you don't like them.
Funny story, when I wanted to try Megamare (Orto Parisi), the sales assistant kindly asked me to spray it outside the store.

Having a super interesting list of notes on Fragrantica, Fantomas (2020) mainly smells like a sweet and juicy cantaloupe on fire. The burnt rubber aspects juxtaposed together with melon keeps going for a couple of hours. It's a shocking and weird experience. Here, the supposed "art" completely takes over the "wearability". For me "niche" is where the designers won't go, and Fantomas is true niche in that manner.

In my opinion, dries down to a very similar base of Bergamask (2014, same perfumer - Orto Parisi), which I didn't enjoy much either. I treated the remaining drops in the sample as hazardous waste, bagged and to trash.

As I said when I started the review, Fantomas is remorselessly strong and long lasting. It may ruin your whole day or completely satisfy depending on your taste.

Golcher

Not nearly as challenging as I remember it to be. I wore Fantomas a few days ago and really enjoyed it! When I first got it I recall it to be like rubber/plastic, some artificial melon (like watermelon jolly ranchers), smoke and some hints of milk. It was very interesting (to say the least) but I couldn't imagine an occasion where I'd be drawn to wear Fantomas so, it was like something you'd see in a fashion show, something interesting, different, bold, a statement but nobody would wear it in a real scenario or anywhere besides a runway. Fast forward a year and I decided to take it for a spin for fun and to my surprise I found something very different. Yes, you still have some hints of those notes I mentioned before but they are all working around the Nasomatto dna (the base feel similar to something you smell in other fragrances like Duro) so it's still challenging but I can see myself wearing it more.

Fountain30

I don’t think it’s anywhere near as challenging as people make out
Starts out a sharp melon slap to the face
Then settles into a metallic rubber. Basically smells like a dirt track after the tyres have skidded across it.
That’s it
It’s interesting and unique, wearable? Yeah… the dry down isn’t too different from Black Afghanos, just more metallic. However I don’t love it, but it’s cool, don’t be scared to try this one!

SmokeyLady

Very unique and cool! I smell sweet rubber and plastic. Notes are well listed by intensity here. Strong and long lasting, but milky caramel tame it a little and make it more freaky at the same time!
I like the story about misterious Fantomas behind it. More niche perfumes should be like most by Nassomato. More creative and less mass pleasing.

Coreterno

I feel two ingridients,lactose+melon....thats all😊

sushidonut123

I love this fragrance. opens with an (oddly) very pleasant synthetic melon note, surrounded by metallic, smoky patchouli. the earthy metallic notes stay throughout its 9 hour longevity but the melon fades to a more milky sweet scent. it is so addictive and intruiging I have to remind my nose what i'm wearing every five seconds.

it reminds me of some urban future dystopia, think Neon Genesis Evangelion.

KingerFD

I do not get smoke and I don’t get tires. I get a start of a cool synthetic note that is not off putting at all. It’s kind of weird like you did not apply a perfume at all. In a few minutes that changes into a melon chewing gum smell to me. The dry down is something like a box of starburst candy. The smell of opening that box of candy. I am a fan of this house. This is creative and different. It’s not mass appealing but it’s also not too far out there that you can’t comfortably wear it.

dudebro

bold, niche, smells great, with even better performance. you give the fragrance community what it wants, and they vote it 3.5 😆

All the more ghosts and ghouls for me to enjoy!

industrial at first, then increasingly fresh and sweet through the day, with a surprisingly good trail. one of my favorites from the Nasomatto project, second only to Pardon.

10/10 👻💀

Love this one

Must try ❤️

kozlowski

Love from the first sight. Its so much different than anything else.
Very intoxicating and addictive.
Totally wearable for me, all year long, day and night, but not too often.

Eribert

Melon, cold incense, with a soft rubber undertone permeating the experience.

This is quirky, elegant, absolutely unisex and probably best worn by young to middle-aged creatives who want something unusual. The only downside is that this fragrance does not really change as you wear it.

Fantomas has medium sillage, but since these are unusual notes the fragrance stands high chances of getting noticed.
Since I forgot to take the time, I cannot recall how long it lasted on my skin - what’s left in my head is “relatively long, but nowhere close to Megamare’s nuclear longevity” - which leads me to an educated guess of ~10 hours.

Personally, I love it and will get myself a bottle of this quirky and unisex composition.

Melvinstone

Just wondering what this title refers to the most - is it the movie or... the band?...

As busy and sweet as the notes tell you. It has a melon, milky caramel, fruity, plastic, *very* sweet vibe throughout. Underneath are more grounding and interesting notes of earth, gunpowder, smoke, rubber and patchouli. But very, very sweet over all of that. This is kind of wild- best for a loud, confident personality. Not office safe, nor a cosy home fragrance nor for a quiet dinner. More suited to wear clubbing, outdoor partying on vacation (like Spring Break!) You have to have the fortitude to endure the sweetness. If you are sensitive to headaches from fragrance then not recommended. But unique, different.

UPDATE: I really like the more smoky, earthy elements e.g. the gunpowder, and they are more prominent when some of the sweetness eventually dies down. But it is still very sweet throughout, smells kind of like condensed milk.

The Wolf

This opens medicinal like Vicks Vapor Rub, and the turns into the smell of peat (dirt) with some mineral aspects.

After that, it reminds me of Toys R' Us stores circa 1990's. Plastic off gassing from toys and rubber from bike tires. It's kinda nostalgic of being a kid because I was usually dirty from playing outside, and obviously, I LOVED toy stores 😄.

Fun fragrance but more of an artistic novelty that wearable IMO. If you're sensitive to synthetic smells, this will likely trigger you.

Scent 7/10
Performance 6.5/10

casanova1974

My favorite from Nasomatto.

Seuni

Why would you hate on that :D I thought this is going to be way heavier by the notes and people hating on it.

It opens up light and sweet. There's a lot of realistic green melon, tire rubber in the very back, but like... A new tire. A new car. Sports car dealership king od a rubber. The earthy smoky gunpowder notes come from a present and noticable patchouli here.

It's light, it's fun, exotic, melon, patchouli fragrance - it's not dark, rubbery, smoky, plasticy synthetic - to be honest the patchouli and exocits smell natural. This is an absolute unisex, all year round including summer. Maybe not for the office - not everyone likes patchouli, but if you don't go heavy - the hell, why not. This smells great and to interpret this as a villian the Fantomas is this is light, white-smokey, but at the same time fun, mischievous. A great composition suiting the story very, very well. Love it

sharky_shosho

This smells like being stuck in the warehouse of an athletic shoes store !! Why on earth really ?

heavyonthehombre

If you're down here in the comments section after viewing the insane notes of this fragrance, you must be thinking "this is some harsh stuff!" Rubber as the highest voted note, plastic, smoke, and patchouli made me think that this was going to be unbearable to smell. But I still wanted to see what this was about. And WOAH is it different than what I thought.

I don't know where Fragrantica's listing of notes came from, but if I were to describe the notes of this fragrance, I would say melon, milk, plastic, caramel/fruity notes, cashmeran, earthy notes, in order of how strong each note is. You start with a blast of milky, plasticky melon. It has some sweetness given by the caramel/fruity notes and is backed up by a soft musky cashmeran. I also get some vetivery/patchouli earthy notes in the drydown. What I don't smell at all (or maybe way in the background) is rubber, smoke, or gunpowder.

For me, this is a smooth and soft melon scent. Maybe the name refers to the fact that each wearer or smeller has a different experience, some getting the harsh rubber and gunpowder notes and others like me getting a milky and sweet melon. Either way, it is a work of art and absolutely one you need to sample before buying a bottle, if the ludicrous notes listing didn't already make that clear.

phosgene

I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream

Malevolent and alluring. A cacophony of notes that for some wild reason just works, and personally, I can't get enough of this.

If memory serves me right, it was Persolaise who once compared it to the scent of a crime scene, and I can't agree more. It's a blend of watery, metallic, gunpowdery, and plasticky facets, with subtle hints of a damp canine lurking in the background. To call it unique would be an understatement. Truly masterful work.

Performance nothing short of nuclear, borderline sickening.

banorgue

Alessandro Gualtieri is a real artist. Master of parfumery. I know all of his works in Nasomatto project and Orto Parisi and I regard his perfumes as art pieces on the highest level. I smelled hundreds of fragrances, there are nice and great fragrances but his works are unique as he has a different approach to frangrance making. He captures the deep meaning and underatanding of the truth, he speaks to your soul, he evokes feelings and tells a story through his fragrances with a perfect technical and artistic talent of creating fragrances. You do not like his works. No problem. Not everybody like the art of Picasso or Stravinsky but they were genius without question as Gualtieri does in parfumery. I love Fantomas as all of his works. All are unique and you can find the one which is you, which speaks to you.

Lex11180

I don't know how to describe this without giving the wrong idea. There is a type of plastic that am envisioning when I smell this. The image it conjured for me was as a child going to the beach, and going to the little shop that sold buckets, inflatables etc. The accumulative smell of this place with those sort of items had a sort of rubbery and plasticy smell to it, but not in like an industrial manufacturing and warehouse sort of way way. These things had like a fruitiness mixed in with this subtle but not disgusting rubber and plastic smell.

That's exactly what Fantomas smells like to me. It's not one I'd reach for often, but it's fun to come back to every now and then.

Billy Yoel

After owning this fragrance for 6 months i think i can now put into words how i feel about Fantomas.

I was browsing on fragrantica, looking for baraonda and other nasomatto perfumes, and i stumbled upon this one. I saw notes like plastic, ozonic, gunpowder, melon and rubber??
I knew that i had to try it. It could either be very special and unique or horrible.

I got myself a sample and i wore it to work that day. From the moment i sprayed it on I was kind of hypnotized. It was so complex, it smelled very synthetic and plastic but at the same time kind of fruity and fresh.
That day i got 4 compliments of different people.
And after 2 days i bought a bottle.

I personally am all about niche smells, and to me it doesnt get more niche than this. I really get the negative comments because this is definately not for everyone. I find this to be so complex, like a very delicate form of art, but also very wearable on casual occasions or a night out.

I must say that the moment you spray it may feel a but nauseating, but after the driedown..it gets really good. Definately in my top 5. Definately NOT a safe blind buy.

Scent: 8.5
Sillage: 7
Longevity: 8

shelby.allen

This one received a lot of negative reviews on the web, people told that it's way too challenging to wear and I didn't smell any of Nasomattos before so when I've got a chance to smell the full range from the Nasomatto line this is the one that I picked up. It is a little weird, but I love it. For some reason when I smell it I think about the future.

josefh

It's not rubbery... It's really very much melon.

elenaalexbg

When I initially sprayed it, it smelled very synthetic, metallic, smoky. Very much industrial. Then it develops to ozonic, fruity, earthy. It is not very intense, not sweet, fresh and definitely rich.

I do like to wear it, it is another good fragrance from Nasomatto - creative, different, deep. I do not understand the low rating here. If you want to be different, this is definitely for you. Dress it in jeans and a tee or a shirt. "Love" from me :)

Vince1998

I went to the store to try Baraonda, left with Fantomas 100% sure of what I was doing.
The opening is very unique, I smelled a lot of fruitness and a bit of plastic surrounding. After 15 min in my skin it brought out white flowery notes, extremely addictive, narcotic. Love at first sniff.
The drydown is elegant, I smell strong animal notes.
Love it or hate it, absolutely not a safe blind buy.

Adasca

Simply smell like melon big babol with some burned rubber in it, extreme complex smell but absolutely unwearable

Cifrone Molare

Definitely a strange one. Instantly bought a bottle after testing a sample. Somehow blends and integrates very well with skin. I believe this has better performance in warmer months. I do sense rubber/plastic notes but more notably a strong metallic vibe, like freshly beaten iron or pure vibrant steel. The scent thomas jerome newton would radiate.
Edit
After over a Year and letting it sit and evolve, now i get it very well: it is a man lurking in the dark not willing to harm anyone but to radiate uneasiness and attraction/repulsion: Here i am but you can’t reach me, i’m on another league, you wish you could touch my skin but can not. Yet it is still the thin white duke, singing of love, feeling absolutely nothing.

Gravemind98

This is a phenomenal fragrance if you want to smell like garbage, and offend everybody you walk past. All these self proclaimed fragrance enthusiasts need to get the sticks out of their asses about craftsmanship and all this garbage. I don’t care if they spent 20 years straight making a fragrance. If it smells horrible, like something that should never be on your body, then that’s the end of it.

PPAN

I really couldn't understand the low rating. Who could've thought synthetic melon mixed with synthetic gunpowder mixed with rubber, plastic and soil would smell so nice? Well, to be clear, this fragrance indeed walks a fine line between “enjoyable” and “nauseating” because of a clearly intentional overdose of chemicals compressed in it. And I guess that's why it can react differently on different skins.

But on me, I find it strangely addictive. If China White smells like roasted cocaine, this is like balloon inhaling. It's plasticky and fruity and even a little headache inducing, but somehow I keep sniffing it. I'm not usually a fan of Nasomatto (the only one I could stand was China White) and I hated the entire Orto Parisi line for its synthetic overdose, but Fantomas is a surprise.

P/S: The cap for this is really cheap looking compared to all other Nasomatto bottle...

CedarWoody

This is the smell of the Fallout 4 Game. Metal, rubber, rotten fruits, smoke and soil.

spiglemigle

I.Love.This!!!
Can't believe I'm saying this as the notes are CRAZY, but it smells so good I can't stop smelling my wrist. I get melon and smoke!
Lovelovelove!

Vitriol08

not for me as it smells as if i spilled a bottle of hot sauce on my arm.
not the worst smell but not compelling to me

Bee-young-ka

Can't be serious all of the time.

This perfume smells like that wild night you had that you can sort of remember.
You remember walking in looking fantastic and the band was cranking it up, the waft of smoke machine...
skip a bit, miss a bit. Then somebody ordered melon daiquiris and some got on your shirt but it was fine because the drag queen lent you a pink plastic zip up top...

It's a bit weird and a bit messy and a lot of fun.

Shadow_Slammer

I believe Fantomas smells exactly like a Habanero pepper. If you have ever chopped or diced a habanero, this is the fragrance. Smokey, spicy, fruity, earthy. Very reminiscent of hot sauce to my nose. I appreciate the artistry, but not wearable for me.

lostsoul007

This is really something else... I definitely get the melon and a candy-like sweetness, plastic/rubber, and lots of smoke, the kind you’d smell at a haunted house or a concert smoke machine… and it absolutely resembles gunpowder… like what you’d smell after firing a shotgun and smelling the bullet casing. I also pick up a metallic tinge, again reminding me of a clean, well oiled shotgun after firing out rounds. I don’t pick up much on the patchouli but there is an earthiness buried within. Other than that, the scent doesn’t develop much.

I’ve owned this since its release last year and have only worn it a handful of times.. it’s not one of my favorite smells or very versatile, for me. Other than Halloween, a concert, or a black tie event where I’m really trying to make a statement, there aren’t too many situations I’d wear this comfortably. It’s fine to wear hitting the town with friends and of course lounging around the house to admire the composition for its uniqueness but the thing is, when I’m lounging around the house I like to test out certain perfumes within my collection, sometimes I’ll test multiple perfumes a night and only ONE SPRAY of this on my wrist WILL LAST A WEEK and devour anything in its path... I’m not kidding, this stuff is incredibly strong and it’s very hard to wash off… it’s insane. I don’t see how anyone could say this is weak or intimate. However, it can be elusive and I will say, when I first got this I didn’t think it was abnormally strong but it has certainly macerated and has now turned into a different beast...

Regardless, I think it’s a cool scent… I’m happy to have it in my collection. This is the EPITOME OF NICHE and probably how the inside of an Alien Spaceship would smell.

Dustin Huffman

Robocop in fragrance form: gleaming metal in an eighties saccharine neon coke bar.

thebody

it's such a linear scent ... as if time has stopped. it won't change. i wonder how could death smell...

C-Sauce

Thanks to those excellent vape comments, I think that I finally get this scent. Fantomas smells like sweet, fruity smoke from a shisha pipe. It has that same filtered, clean smokiness that resembles water vapour.

finesse19

@SmokeVanilla is right. If you've ever been near someone using a vape this smells like melon vape. I don't smell anything except melon and plastic in this. It doesn't smell bad but I don't know why anyone would want to smell like this. If your goal is to be unique though, that will definitely be achieved with this.

plainaccount

This smells like plastic from certain toys I used to have when I was a kid. Not fun. The sillage is huge. I sprayed it on a shirt and when I wore that shirt a day later for about 45 minutes and then changed into a new one I could still smell it on me. Really powerful stuff but the scent is kind of annoying. The opening reminded me of Seminalis but quickly changed to this musky, plastic with a little sweetness and noticeable melon. I also get a little bit of menthol when smelled up close on the skin. I thought I would be impressed by the weirdness but instead I'm disappointed to have even spent the $ on the sample.

To me, when I opened the small sample dram (and some got on my fingers), all I could smell was Scotch bonnet peppers! If anyone is familiar, they are pretty delicious, so that was enjoyable. I need to smell again to really sort out the notes but it was really giving me Scotch bonnet.

torquemadaxiii

Melon & musk with some fresh gunpowder. It starts with a blast of melon but musk comes out quickly on my skin. Beautiful and unusual, and it lasts ages, although it is not suffocating. To me it is weirdly calming and uplifting at the same time.

lovetribe

drydown also fresh ozonic, marine, salty. evolves in a thousand ways!

lovetribe

what a nice melon scent!
cleverly mixed with plastic tropical fruit, bubblegum, not quite tire gum, toffee, smoke and a dash of gunpowder. it does not evoke any "invisible power that will cross your senses, filling you with love and mystery that can hide an evil spirit" as written by gualtieri but it is a very nice perfume without obligation, very strange that I would not buy.
very concentrated.
excellent performance.

This is strangely addictive. I didn’t like it at first, but I think Gualtierri is ahead of the curve and I’m just catching up. In the best way imaginable,

Fantomas smells like cookie dough in a white plastic bag sitting on a stainless steel table. I feel like an industrial pastry chef working with heavy mixers and dough knives. In a sexy way.

There is something in the composition of Fantomas that resembles the heart notes of Unum Ennui Noire, which makes me wonder whether Gualtierri is also the secret nose behind that house’s stunning offerings.

I would put Fantomas in the same strange but seductive group as Blamage and China White. Bravo!

@galucita

Almost every perfume I’ve bought became stronger in a couple of weeks from the first use. That may be the case with your bottle.

[EDIT] So I finally picked up my bottle. I totally love it. It is so surprising and polarizing. That is what I love in niche perfume. When I pay big buck for a niche scent I do not expect something that is a higher quality designer perfume. I expect a "wow" effect and yeah sure, I won't wear what I hate, but when I wear niche I like when it's provocative. And Fantomas is definitely ticking those boxes. It is a weird plasticky fresh melon smell and from a certain distance it smells to me ozonic, metallic, like the air after the summer storm. For my nose there is no blood here. I probably won't get any compliments for it, but my fiancee said it was nice and different than anything I've used and believe me she smelled hundreds of fragrances that I bought or sampled. Longevity and sillage are decent but imho especially the sillage could be better. The bottle is just like any other Nasomoattos, with large weird cap and a smaller cap added for travel. I can't wait to test it in heat. I believe it will smell completely different when applied on a hot day. If you are bored and every fragrance is 'meh', try it. For sure you will feel something, a delight or disgust. For me it's a piece of art.

galucita

Hi everyone, how many hours does it last on your skin? I sampled this perfume in Germany a few months ago and it lasted for at least 12 hours on my skin. The scent from my wrist must have transferred on to my keyboard, as it smelled for days after that. I decided to order it a while later from their website and, to my surprise, it doesn't last longer than 8-9 hours.

Fragaddict123

Another masterpiece by nasomatto
It is unique and incredibly distinct
I love this one though I can say it’s not for everyone
Longevity is great

First impression: Overdose of Cashmeran (an IFF molecule, see Escentric Molecules - Molecule 05 if curious how it smells) nuanced with prunella/caramel, some fruity (ripe melons) sweet musky additions, and a soft patchouli in the background. I also dont get any smoke, plastic so far. I like the scent, abstract and quirky like some of CdG perfumes, somehow reminded me of CdG Copper and Concrete, they are not similar, just the concept and something made me think of these.

Looking forward to spend more time with this.

frejvonfraahsen

It took me a while to figure out the dominant smell in this concoction - it's wormwood (Artemisia Absinthum)! Yes, the bitter, supposedly vision-inducing, main ingredient in absinth. This is a green, bitter, weirdly sweet and otherworldly magic brew. It's really not for everyone - not completely pleasant but strangely addictive. See y'all at the next witches' sabbat! ;)

Bee-young-ka

I just got My sample.

Midori anyone?

Ok. it was a sample and at first I was underwhelmed. Oh Midori. (a sweet melon green spirit in cocktails )
But as my lover suggested to put the sample on properly (just used the whole vile - 1ml)

OK now I get the smoke machine vibe.

it is weird this one. but its more-ish.
you want to come back to this scent.

Melon-y Smoke-y Water-y

I have never outside of a cocktail bar smelt anything like this.

marioslg3

I bought but i dont know if i like it. It is a very strange perfume. I have to wear it a couble of timesa to be sure. The thing is that is has something that attracts me, dont know what ot is. I dont smell any plastic, rubber or gun smoke. I get something fruity, milky and musky. Dont know what to say. Tomorrow i will wear it for a first time and will see. I dont believe that it will attract complements but nobody knows.

redboss

It''s just me or what? I smell only melon all the way. After an hour - maybe cashmeran. No gunpowder, no smoke. So disappointed.

neinmuses

tested this morning. the scent of nuclear fallout and the survivors attempts to harvest any and all still viable crops (in this case, melon) in the months and years after.

smells of sour plastic, burnt rubber, and candied watermelon. scrubbed it off after an hour.

Katieg

Just got a decant of this following the Fragrantica review. I’ll accept that my sense of smell isn’t what it was but I feel enveloped in smoke. Not acrid smoke, briar wood or joss sticks. There is also a ‘buttered popcorn ‘ note that appears after a while. It’s not as complex or outre as advertised and would be great on a man. The sillage is good and it’s very wearable. As an old lady on very limited income I’m really fed up with the escalating prices of scents which seem to be all for marketing. Online marketing seems to cost more than the adverts in magazines and the odd TV advert in days of yore . I used to walk into my local pharmacy see a tester, try it, and either buy it or not. And the staff gave frank opinions as they knew me. Ah happy days.

damightyheru

I first smelled Fantomas at Scent Bar in NYC and the first experience of it was very intriguing to me. I smelled it with an open mind and little expectations, as I've learned to do to avoid disappointment and I have to say I wasn't nearly as disappointed as some seem to be. In fact I was quite impressed. Fantomas is a warm fragrance that gets fresher as it wears.

Over the years, I've grown to appreciate fresh perfumes a lot more. I always preferred darker, warmer scents and I may still be consistent because Fantomas is essentially a dark fresh scent. I typically find freshies to be boring, chemical concoctions. It's hard to find a fresh scent that is unique, interesting, wearable and impressive. Every now and then I smell a fresh fragrance that challenges my assumptions of fresh perfumes and Fantomas did just that. It doesn't rely on the expected fresh fragrance blueprints. There's no use of citrus, it doesn't smell aquatic and it uses notes that come across heavier than what you normally find in fresher perfumes.

Fantomas is very synthetic but Imo it's an amazing example of synthetic perfumery done well. When I smell Fantomas a strong picture of an object enters my mind. The scent reminds me of a silver revolver handgun. This perfume could've easily been called Chrome...if that perfume name wasn't already used. It's very metallic in the beginning with a blast of berry full fruit, melon and a rubber note that almost makes me visualize a hard rubber grip or the handle of a revolver. I was very shocked when some people smelled it and picked up a milkiness from it. I can almost perceive what they are talking about but for me there is an earthy, soil like scent as well as a smokiness that is very noticeable giving off the vibe of gun powder.

If you are bored with a lot of fragrances on the market, get your nose on Fantomas asap. It's extremely powerful on cloth with insane sillage. If you spray it on your hand and it gets on the sleeve of a jacket or coat, the scent will remain there for days. If you put that jacket on days later, the scent will still be transferable to your hand. I could literally walk by my jacket 7 days later and smell the perfume that was only present on the ends of my sleeve. Just wow. How I knew I liked it...Every time I walked by my jacket, I felt compelled to grab the end of the sleeve and take a whiff.

It reminds me a little of Night Flyer by Olympic Orchids which is the rerelease of the original Bat by Zoologist but I have to admit I prefer Fantomas because it's more versatile and easier to wear in more situations. Some people will perceive Fantomas as a fresh take on Black Afgano and I can appreciate that interpretation. To me Fantomas is a lot more than that and from my limited experience, it may appeal to more people generally speaking.

Though Its a strong scent, Fantomas could conceivably be worn all year although I would only wear it on cooler summer evenings. i could wear it dressed up or down and it doesn't follow any perfume trend at all, allowing it to be a very timeless scent one could easily wear 20 years from today without dating themselves. It will not smell dated in most of our lifetimes.

The smell of it is very captivating to me and while it's not the standard Nasamatto, it fits the brand aesthetic and style and broadens the options the brand offers. This is no sell out, money grab option from the brand. Its a very thoughtful, well conceived perfume with a lot of dimension and character. When I think of Nasamatto, I think danger in a bottle and this newest effort which makes me visualize a firearm, is in keeping with that. This brand's scents represent something negative, made positive in the form of an awesome scent. Many people won't get it, but many will be intrigued by it. I love that many people here doesn't like it or even hates it because I don't prefer popular niche scents in my collection anyway. If you like to smell interesting, not just nice that may appeal to you.

If I had to rank this scent in my P.A.G.E. Rating system, I would rate this a G+ scent for 'very good' and it's close to an E status for me or Exceptional. Personally, I really like it and want to keep smelling it over and over which I probably will until I take my favorite coat to the dry cleaners. lol.

Really love the sweetness with this perfume but the rubber/gunpowder makes it not very wearable around people. Very polarizing scent and extremely long lasting.

Simmy73

I dislike it. The gunpowder-rubber-plastic combo is overwhelming to my nose, and not pleasant. Plus, it mixes very oddly with the sweet-fruity notes to a terrible effect which, alas, lasts FOREVER! Smoky note: hardly perceived. Patchouly/earthy notes: nowhere to be found.

SmokeVanilla

When I first smelled this fragrance I was shocked. My first thought was animal pheromones with a hint of melon.
It took me a while to go back to it or even have the courage to spray it on. I would suggest trying it on as it smells so different on the skin. I now have an appreciation for it. I cannot say I love it as much as Nudiflorum or Black Afgano, but I do like it.
To me now, it smells like melon vape or smoke machine and a freshly opened packet of Allen's Snakes (Australian lollies). I get a weird metallic smell, similar to Blamage . It's like you spilled a sweet melon drink on your skin whilst out in the sun, its a mix of warm skin, sugar, melon and gold bangles, the sun drying the spilled drink on your wrist and accessories. When I spray it on, I want to continuously smell my wrist, It's intriguing.

I would definitely recommend trying it on.

Conceptually it is an original scent, as a fragrance it is a bit strange. It is a fruity composition of green melon or cucumbers, accompanied by abstract white smoke and a faint lactic sensation. When used, it provides a certain enigmatic luminous aura, it is easy to wear, but difficult to appreciate at first; undoubtedly a polarizing aroma, excessive price for a perfume that you will occupy very sporadically.

A few weeks into this and I have still absolutely no idea if I like it. It's melon bubblegum that evolves into something slightly more musky/earthy and addictive. I find myself regularly wanting to pull the trigger on buying this, but something always talks me away from the ledge. It's most certainly a compliment grabber - but outside only on a crisp cold day. Inside I've been asked to 'not spray this in the house again pls.' Performance wise this is an absolute beast, silage and longevity are both incredible - can even ID it on my sweater AFTER its been through a gentle wash. The jury is still out, but i do hope that a verdict will eventually arrive...

Bergamet

Sure, why not!

I wonder if this will become another of the many, many scents that are widely hated at first, that several years later develop a cult following and finally end up being considered some kind of undiscovered masterpiece, right before being discontinued and then fetching a substantial price on eBay about 10 years down the track. If you ignore the notes listed above and the marketing efforts and instead focus on what hits your nose then you'll probably be surprised by what you (personally) notice. I picked up on what feels like a digital simulation of a freshly cut melon wrapped in burnt plastic, and would place this type of perfumery alongside other well-made synthetics like Costume National and Comme des Garçons. Considering the hate it is virtually guaranteed that this will start hitting the discounters soon, I'll be waiting until then to snatch my bottle up.

I think this is what Clancy from Midnight Gospel would smell like.

Cocoleo

I sampled this fragrance and after more than a week I still don't know what to say about this fragrance....
I don't really like the scent but I've never noticed so many compliments and people asking me what I'm wearing!

Doresasultanian

Big dislike

This is Black Afgano stripped from some of its darker hash layers and overdosed on Coca-Cola (that fizzy bubbly adictive Cola caramel) and hard candies with a fruity taste. Love it!
It is unisex and very hard for me to tell if it leans more masculine or feminine it has a certain playfulness that easily jumps between both sexes. Lasting power and sillage is superb, over 12hours in skin, on clothes-until you wash them..

katrin.niisuke

Very different from the rest of the line. You'll love it if you're <16 teenage girl.

Spring-summer wear. Longevity is quite good. Sillage is very soft. There is nothing natural about this scent. Mainly aromachemicals that create a watermelon flavoured Chupa-Chups effect. My 3 y.o. loves it. Me not so much. Loosely resembles Gallagher's Amongst Waves.

missingpuzzle

It's a cool, very playful scent but IMO it doesn't match its name and advertising at all. It's very joyful, optimistic and bright. I don't get anything dark or "evil" from this scent. To give you an idea what it smells like the most - it's like being in a fog/steam from a fruity e-cigarette. My friend used to smoke it a lot and the melony fog from it was just exactly the same as from this frag (but it's not a smoke - I don't smell anything burning in this). I can understand comparison to Blamage and Duro, but it's very very subtle.
The problem here is that it doesn't seem like a perfume. Though I'm collecting different perfumes, I can't think of a use for this one - I just don't find an appropriate occasion. Maybe only taking LSD at a home party, lol.
It's not controversial or complex. I think it would have fit Juliette Has A Gun brand (with JHAG price tag) better than to Nasomatto. Yet, it is a pleasant experience. I enjoyed wearing this at home.
EDIT: the longevity is amazing - I still feel it around after 12 hours and a shower (!). The late late drydown is similar to Black Afghano and almost identical to Malefic Tattoo by LM perfumes. I’m wondering whether these two Italian brands are related. Quite sweet. Best season in Spring or Fall.
EDIT2: Evil spirit is definitely there! I washed my sweater and put on the drier in the living room and now my whole apartment smells like grinning Fantomas.

Q80

It's like a variation or mix of his past fragrances!

I get bits of "Boccanera", "Stercus", hints of "Seminalis", & a touch of "Black Afghano". Nothing new as usual, I wasn't curious to have a sample of it or even search for one till i found a tester of this bottle today in one of the shops i regularly visit so i gave it a shot and it was as expected, a milked mixed that he has been doing before many many times. Meh.

mohdbannaga

This is beaaaaaaaast.. I get compliments anywhere i go

JoakimHallgren

I will tell you all exactly what it smells like: Chili. Specifically Carolina Reaper. And I would know; I've eaten quite a few of them.

It has a spicy musky vibe with a fruity undertone. Sharp. Piercing. I actually hate it.

It's really one of my favorites in this House (Pardon, Blamage, Black Afgano), and this one. It's special and unique.

muzzbait

Again, scent and memory here...

This reminds me of a moment, early in my Japan life.
I bought one of those melon soft drinks, I do NOT remember which one it was, maybe Fanta, maybe sunkist, anyway, I remember spilling it on something. Something material, maybe my jumper, maybe my backpack. Anyway, after it'd dried up, the smell remained. That's what this reminds me of! Artificial melon soda realised through material, dried and remaining on clothing. Now that I think of it, I think it was a Fanta 'melon' fizzy drink. And I think it was in a metallic bottle, too...
Anyway, I'm not sure I actually want to smell like this, but, I think I like it. Enough to actually buy it? Maybe not, but certainly enough to want to smell this again, perhaps...

moonriverandflowers

Well, what hasn't already been said? After testing it once, here is what I think:

Indeed it smells strongly of an unripe melon, with metallic overtones, especially at the beginning. A few minutes later, woods and definitely a peppery sensation emerge. Overall it does not evolve much.

Projection: never loud, quickly close to the skin.

Longevity: more than 14 hours with 2 sprays on my wrist. Don't understand why some say that it disappears from time to time.

PS: go watch the first Fantomas movie!

Variable01

EDIT 10/17/2020

Woah, this one is special. Hard to describe. A melon note married to a variation of the wood accord in Duro by a fluffiness that wraps and smooths the entire fragrance neatly. The woody base is almost nutty. The melon - I honestly am torn between thinking it's a artificial melon gum with a real melon. If you pay attention to the marketing you'll "get" the "fog". To me, the fog is similar to the fluffy musks he uses in his some of his Orto Parisi line but when it's combined with the woods it comes off as white chocolate.

Overall a very nice scent, unisex. Got 2 unsolicited compliments from coworkers. I was getting wonderful wafts of it all day and smelled the leftovers the next morning.

dhruvmini01

I do not know how to feel about this. The opening is this gunpowderlike (taken from the explosions within the press material) shiny steel cable that hangs above a fruity sandalwoody environment below (before melon note was mentioned by someone). They melon note helps transition between the steely note to the woods. They are definitely two different notes juxtaposed on one another and I guess that crimes in normal daylight is like. Glad I only got a sample. This is quite weird to me and I don't think I'd ever spend my money on it. I think Black afghano does a more interesting take with a hint of cannabis and sandalwood. Someone mentioned bubblegum. This is like juicy fruit stored in a steel tin.

edit: Now I recall what the gunpowder note is reminding me of. Habanero. I very much dislike habanero and this encapsulates the scent very well. Habanero is a fruity spicy facet and I can see how the spicy part could be made metallic in the top. As a fruiter chili it has this almost synthetic sweetness about it. This is then laid atop a a base of sweet woods. I guess melon notes could be used to amplify the fruitiness of the chili.

scentcritique

Love this one! Those who are fans of Blamage will go head over heels for this one. A woody forest filled with lemon and melon trees. After a few hours, the fruitiness slowly dissipates leaving you with just an empty forest filled with musk and something slightly leathery? There is also some sort of smell that makes me think of being at the fairgrounds. It's a fun, unique creation for those seeking something out the ordinary.

McKb

The cheapest synthetics one can imagine. I was SO looking forward to this, since I am a massive fan of (most of) his work.

It starts with a loooot of synthetic sandalwood and other woods in the base with a punch of melon and chewing gum on top. It is not a realistic melon smell, more like a super punchy synthetic note.
The fragrance doesn't really change much. I could imagine some may get a metallic, bloody accord.

If you love Duro (which is fantastic), the chemical punchy smell of Blamage (which is awful) and melon chewing gum, you're gonna love this, because that's basically what you get.

I think it is absolutely horrible.

Dingleberries

Bunch of cheap ingredients thrown together....lactonic melon chewing gum....furthest thing possible from resembling a phantom. I love unique and artistic but this just flat out makes no sense. Never in any situation would this scent profile be appropriate. Blind buy safe? HELLLL NOOOOO! sorry Nasomatto let's move on and pretend this one never happened

Singabera

Ridiculous to be honest... Starts with nothing-ness, end with light melon chewing gum.
Aimed at hype and fans of something unusual, but there is nor intelligible concept, neither harmony.

fragrance test tube

I reviewed this on my Youtube channel recently. I mainly get a lactonic, metallic, sandalwood bomb.
So fun to read all the different interpretations here :-)

An invisible power that will cross your senses by filling with love and mystery that can hide an evil spirit! ~Alessandro Gualtieri

After the many teasers, trailers and adverts online by Alessandro Gualtieri the new fragrance Fantomas by Nasomatto finally arrives. It is an homage to the mysterious blue face villain Fantomas that was popular in the 60's.

Fantomas is the 13th fragrance released by Nasomatto. If you found all the media adverts to be a bit disturbing making you think that it’s going to be a dark fragrance release , you are in for a huge surprise as it’s one of the most delightful offerings by Alessandro Gualtieri yet!

Infact Fantomas might actually be the fragrance to pull in new fans for the house of Nasomatto because as soon as you spray this on your arm, your face will light up. It’s impossible not to smile once the first melon note hits your olfactory nerve reminding you of the beautiful Summer season.

Alessandro describes Fantomas as an invisible power that will cross your senses by filling with love and mystery that can hide an evil spirit!

Once you get familiar with Fantomas this description will make a lot of sense and I will try to explain with this description what the fragrance Fantomas is all about.

A LOVE

The beautiful melon opening is just the beginning of various layers the fragrance will show during its longevity. The melon is the love Alessandro is hinting at in his description, but the slang word ‘melon love’ is an expression that means ‘you rock’ and it has nothing to do with ‘ I love you’. The love here is the feeling it delivers in it's opening, a statement that you will feel special when you wear this! Yes, you will rock!

A MYSTERY

The next notable note is the cucumber, but could Alessandro be referring to a sea cucumber?

As time passes by, any fan of Megamare by Orto Parisi will notice a slight reference of it in Fantomas. The sea cucumber has a strong persistent smell that can only be tamed by some sliced ginger. It’s a mysterious sea scent but very persistent. So far the fragrance is sweet, a bit aquatic and very joyful. However after around the 20-minute mark something really dark happens and this is where Fantomas takes a turn to reveal it’s evil spirit that Alessandro refers to.

AN EVIL SPIRIT

With just 3 sprays on my neck I started to feel a presence around me that was haunting, beautiful but also a bit suffocating. The person next to me could not smell what I was smelling (invisible power) and became totally nose blind. In the meantime, the cloud scent around me was getting stronger and stronger. Everywhere I moved it moved with me, and suddenly it struck me why the advert had a headless man with white smoke replaced instead.

If you grew up in the 80’s you might remember that schools used white chalk for black boards. I remember in class we used to take turns to wipe the blackboard and the chalk dust would fill a whole classroom. Well the smell that seems to follow you around to my nose is that smell. Some have hinted that Fantomas smells like cocaine, interestingly the slang name for that drug is actually chalk dust, so the evil spirit Alessandro is referring to here might just be (cocaine) chalk dust! (White)

AN INVISIBLE POWER

The invisible power Alessandro refers to is real, it’s a trick in perfumery and Alessandro enjoys using it in the majority of his creations. His fragrances have a trend to disappear and reappear unexpectedly, Megamare is just one example of this trick and is by far one of the strongest creations he has ever made as it lasts for days on clothes. Fantomas doesn’t seem to be quite as strong as Megamare but I would still be very cautious to use. Fantomas continues to change during its entirety with hints of a woody amber note, and yet more fruity notes including a hint of patchouli. The chalk dust seems to tame down after an hour and stays moderate in the background giving the fragrance a more happy tone to shine. I think Fantomas would work well in any season, at first it seemed like only a Summer season fragrance but as it showed more of it's offering I personally think this is an all year fragrance and fit for any occasion.

THIS IS FANTOMAS...

On my skin Fantomas projected for around 4 hours but remained a strong skin scent for more than 18 hours and it was only after I showered it disappeared...or has it?

ts4r

I blind bought this perfume and have been wearing it for about two weeks now.

This smells like a more lactonic lemon meringue pie. It has a leathery mid and a musky/aldehydic base. It opens to smell delicious/playful and gets dirtier as it dries down. The leather note does hint at cocaine accords and the musks are very unique.

It doesn't smell like Seminalis but Seminalis has the same lactonic vibe. Seminalis wasn't for me.

This one you go nose blind to but others definitely smell you. It leaves a heavy trail.

Durability is about 11 hours with huge projection for the first 3 hours (when someone came to my house, which isn't small, this is all they could smell based on 3 sprays. I was on the other side of the main floor and had moved around a bit that day).

It's a freshie but definitely an all-weather perfume.

As others have said, if you like duro or blamage you'll like this.

If you're going in expecting dark perfume (black afgano or Pardon), you won't like this.

This smells nothing like Seminalis! Don't get too scared!

It has some pissy vibe in the open, but it's what makes the perfume enjoyable as that pissy sweet tart vibe goes away quick and gives way to the leathers and musks.

MartinFord

Too feminine.

rafaelsoaresfranco

After the initial spray you get immediately the Nasomatto DNA molecules, smells like a Nasomatto. I immediately was reminded of Duro but a "softer" version, more feminine leaning and not as harsh as Duro.

Duro is all about manly hairy chest, this is not like that, but all the similarities are there.

This will be redundant to me since I have Duro, but others that might have been put off by Duro can find home here.

It's a great scent.

bondifox

What an enigmatic creation by Alessandro Gualtieri!

After watching the promotional video I was expecting something dark and smoky (similar to Black Afgano). However, Fantomas has turned out to be a quite playful and experimental composition.

Starting from the top I detect sweet and fruity notes and Nasomatto's signature patchouli. Then, as the perfume dries down the scent becomes milky and woody (similar to Seminalis). I also perceived a strong cashmeran note and some light vetiver in the background. In the far dry down Fantomas becomes super musky on my skin.

Regarding its projection and longevity, Fantomas isn't as strong and long lasting as Black Afgano or other Nasomattos. It would also play tricks on you, disappearing and then reappearing when you think it is forever gone.

Definitely a must try composition!

simonsson

Take the heart of Absinth (wormwood), add the powder from China White and the warm-skins scent part of Nudiflorum. If you want you can add some musk from Silver musk (because there is musk here) and I most definitely get a streak of Black Afgano cannabis in the drydown. But the most dominant part eludes me somewhat: with a gun towards my head I'd say it's nylon. I do not pick up fruit or cucumber or melon in contrast to other reviewers. Is it sweet? Not in an edible way, but maybe in a floral way. And in the deep dry down an amazing amber. After ONE (mind you) use I have also encountered two distinct and very different layers. I have described the apparent one above. The second one is eluding (hard to catch as well as difficult to analyze) but very interesting. Here might lie the true beauty of Fantomas.

Blind buy? If you know Nasomatto and like what I call the bright branch (Absinth, Nudiflorum, China White, Narcotic Venus) then yes, for sure.

If you prefer the "dark" branch (Black Afgano, Pardon, Baraonda) over the "light" one, then no, you will not like this either.

New to Nasomatto? Definitely try before you buy, this is a bit of a strange one!

josh.moore27

Handsome unisex gourmand fragrance. Does smell like some fruity desert (melon, strawberry, lemon vibes) with lots of vanilla and woods to support. The woods keep this grounded and prevent it from becoming a full on food fragrance (it does smell refined). I can see this being a very mass appealing scent indeed. First impressions are very good and I get the whole fog machine vibe, there is some synthetic molecule that works really well with the vanilla to give this “fog” effect.

coasterfan

Sadly, this is not for me. All I'm getting is an exceptionally sweet, musky, cucumber-melon note that immediately made me nauseous. Very linear. I'm disappointed.

Scent: 4/10
Longevity: 9/10
Projection: 7/10
Price/Performance Ratio: 2/10

RichardB

I have been very keen to receive my official sample of this. I ordered a new bottle of Silver Musk and asked for a sample of this which they included. The sample is a blotter which I have just applied.

First impressions: ok, interesting! Starts of very sweet. I get a fruity, confectionary-like smell, like a jolly rancher. At this stage, it strikes me as feminine due to the sweetness. After a few minutes, I get a sugary, vanilla smell coming through and I can now detect a subtle clean woody smell also coming through. I'm also getting a cherry/menthol smell.

Do I like it so far? It's certainly intriguing but perhaps a bit too sweet for my liking.

As things develop I hit a eureka moment as I finally realise which note is really standing out to me: it's wormwood. That's what I couldn't pinpoint at the beginning and now I have, I can identify it as the main note to my nose!

So, is this like Nasomatto Absinth? Not quite as I like this much more as there is a creamy, vanilla accord here which helps smooth things out.

Is it like the wormwood in Amouage Memoir Man? Again, no it's not. The wormwood here is less obvious and there is a transparency and lightness in Fantomas which I appreciate.

I might be way off here as I haven't smelled this fragrance in a while but this reminds me of Guerlain L'Homme Ideal EDP due to the cherry/vanilla like smell.

I'd be very interested to hear what others get from Fantomas. Mine is the first to mention wormwood and I would be particularly interested if anyone else smells this too.

UPDATE: 1st impression.

Wow! I will say that I was genuinely excited about this, but now that I've tried it. O.M.G. This has surprised me and totally exceeded my expectations. I'm not hugely into Nasomatto, but Orto Parisi is my favorite house for reference. I like a lot of them, but not enough to spend €124 on all of them. I have Nudiflorum and Pardon.

This will be a bit hit I think. It opens with a short blast of transparent woods, similar to the drydown of BA/Stercus/Boccanera, but very light and airy. It then very quickly moves into a vanillic woods/almost menthol-like (menthol in behavior, not smell) sweet and fruity delight. It's not overtly fruity, it's as if all of the notes are behind a smokescreen. I know that is part of the marketing, but this GENUINELY feels like the notes are hiding behind a fog. A fog machine smell would also be accurate as someone else described. I've heard the fruits described as lemon meringue pie and melon, I'd say both are accurate depending on what you're thinking of at the time, but melon is more objectively close since melon has a transparent smell vs lemon that is usually thicker and more up close. So let's say a melon meringue pie...if that exists.

I hesitate to say this because I don't want to start any kind of unfair comparisons (it doesn't remind me of anything I've smelled), but this is almost as if in an alternate universe Alessandro made BR540. It has a similar transparentness about it like BR540. Like a woody verson of BR540. Although, again, that unfair and not doing it much justice.

The more it dries down, the sweeter it gets and the more the melon comes out. Even though it gets sweeter, it never gets thick/sticky/cloying. It's like a great Belgian beer, strong, sweet, and with a dry finish :D Probably the most unisex thing in the range.

If you're the person who cares about occasions, this one fits literally right in the middle of every single one.

This is now one of my favorite fragrances in my collection. What a delicious surprise!

AFTER A FEW HOURS: The simplest elevator pitch for it would be: It's like if you put melon and vanilla soaked wood into a fog machine and basked in the fog.

It's not a HUGE projector like Pardon or Nudiflorum, but it's still going quite strong.

Such an amazing lovely smell wow, never thought would made me crazy with this perfume. powerful powdery rose smell. I found it quite difficult fo me to describe the top notes.

A BIG THANKS FOR NASOMATTO FOR CREATING THIS UNBELIEVABLE SMELL.

To me I get the "fog machine" smell in the opening (could be the advertising). I also get a a noted vanilla and a smidgen of florals in the opener which settles down after an hour. Certainly more on the fresher side of his line.
The primary scent reminds me of cucumber water with some sweet lemon.
It shares your standard fair of Nasomatto musks with a bit of wood in the far dry down. I don't believe there is any oud in this.

Longevity, I get about 4 hours of real decent projection where it settles down as a nice skin scent after that. Projection is about on par with the modern Nasomattos, about 2 feet but a very nice sillage. A nice gust of wind will throw this rather far.

I would say it's leans more towards a daytime scent. But fine at night. This would probably shine best in spring or summer. But should be fine year round.

I would say this is smack dab unisex.

Overall, it is a very pleasant scent

Dont usually comment, but thought I had to on this one. I received my bottle today and as a huge fan of Nasomatto, this one does not disappoint.
Definitely carries the signature Nasomatto DNA which i absolutely love... for me the only way I cant really describe this to be honest. If I were to say it reminds me of a blend of Baraonda (but not boozy), Pardon and Blamage with an opening hint of melon or cucumber. It certainly packs a punch in the opening which last for about 3-4 hours before drying down into Musky woody/oudy skin scent. Love it lots. Very happy to have this in to my collection. Perfect for the fall/winter months and it currently my go to Nasomatto scent.

This is not a review. But it was described by a boutique who got a sample of it over the weekend as being creamy, somewhat green and with a fruity note like melon. He also said that it “changes a lot”. Exciting!

Nasomatto Fantomas Notes:

Alessandro has left us some clues... a magnifying glass on the first picture on Instagram and a series of videos. Meaning that we should look at the videos closely.

I have identified the following as notes:

Cocaine Accord (top note most likely)

Un-identifiable complex natural compound (I can't figure this out but it seems naturally occurring).

A compound with hexane ring.

Androsterone (mid and base, and most likely the dominating aspect of the composition)

Second Androsterone or similar molecule derived from pig glands (this is confirmed in the second video).

Can anyone identify the big molecule in the first video?

Old School Tie

Rose jam or no....that still does not mean that trade samples are not in circulatIon long before general release, hence people have tried perfumes before they go on sale.

@peterK

Yes, there is a jam made from roses petals I think it's famous in East Europe and North middle east.

Definitely Taif roses will never be used for that purpose, it's too expensive to be a jam.
