For a better Hallucinogenic Pearl A Lab on Fire - 312 Saint Honoré BDKs new offering

sunnyviolets

Yeah the suede note is particularly strong. Smells like a tack room or the inside of a clean leather car.

Not that I don't love those smells, but I don't necessarily want to smell like either of them. Beautiful though.

yes2heaven

Haunted by how much this smells like a department store dressing room. The suede adds an industrial rubber-plastic-metal note that inexplicably brings to mind a stack of rusted plastic clothes hangers. The musk is raw like a stack of wool sweaters fresh off the assembly line. The top/middle notes disappear quickly, but the pink pepper and slight floral are reminiscent of deodorant slash sweat residue on a polyester shirt. I don't totally hate it, but I'm a little disturbed by how clearly and immediately it conjures up memories of frantically trying on jeans at a Nordstrom.

Esna

Violet candies, new rubber scent from a luxury tire store and crushed black moon drop grapes. The humid smell after it rained a couple of miles away but not where you're at. Daydreaming of a black cold beach in Iceland and seeing the northern lights from afar. Smoking a skinny Crystal Violet B&H cigarette in your pearl 911 Porsche with pearl leather seats, while listening to "Recover" by XPLOR.

This burned my nose just smelling it. Like rubbing alcohol or like someone else said, Sharpie. I didn’t even try it on my skin

moodypaws

Fluorescent, big, huge violet, more fruity than powdery, over a strong leather accord that is neither acrid nor particularly animalic. I have to disagree with most of the reviewers below who find fault with this perfume.
If you love violet, this one is a must try. Performance is stellar on me, good projection and amazing longevity even when applied from a spray sample.

SailorV

Beautiful feminine, elegant suede somewhere between Atelier Silver Iris, SL Daim Blond and Bottega Veneta.
This is cool, soft and powdery from the violet and orris, but also warm from the very natural suede note. A touch of fluffy musk connects the two sides. It gets creamier and more intense in the drydown.
The bergamot is quite sparkling, zesty and fruity here, especially in the opening, which I enjoy. Even though there are no other fruits listed I also get a dark, juicy, "purple" note like plum or berries. The bergamot is stronger though.
I love the name Hallucinogenic Pearl and the image on the packaging, but I don't find them fitting for the scent. This is more of a matte, velvety mauve kind of fragrance to me, not shiny and white like a pearl.

There are many similar scents on the market with only small differences and I already have some of them which I wouldn't replace them with this one. If I had never smelled something like this before, I might have loved this. The way it is, it's only a strong like.

I was worried that the suede element might ruin the scent, and I was right...

The suede here is soft and delicate, but potent enough to change the complexity of the soft floral element. I am not a fan of what is happening here, and, well, I don't like it.
Much would've preferred a woods element, maybe even a resin, or something like that. I don't think this calls for an animalic aspect, I really don't...

Anything, this is just my own experience, yours may vary...

Hallucinogenic Pearl has a strong opening that, to me, vacillates between fresh-tanned leather and acrid rubber gasket, but in a good way, if you're into that sort of thing. Later on, the violet, bergamot, and orris sing out pearly and bright, projecting at arm's length, while the leather/rubber (but not pleather!) sits close to the skin. I find it lovely, addicting. A fascinating juxtaposition that keeps me coming back despite disappointing longevity on my skin.

likefireflies

Immediately smells of leather, iris, smoke, and some very light sweetness. As it is drying down it's getting sweeter and a bit citric.

i don't /hate/ this but i do dislike it. smells like the candy coating of a cherry gumball + brand new, super cheap, sweatshop quality clothing. for what it's worth i can convince myself it's suede when looking at the notes pyramid, but if i randomly caught a whiff of this in the street i would think i just passed a ross (no hate at all that's just what it smells like to me). unsure i could envision this working on anyone

Olfactsnsnax

Opens with a……burning sharpie? Smell? But then dries down to a pretty powdery violet after about 20 minutes. Not sure I can muscle through the opening enough to try on skin, definitely won’t purchase a full bottle.

Osmologist

To echo thmsyssf below, the minute I sprayed this on my hand I thought 'wow' how can that smell 'exactly like real leather'. It smelled as if I had just peeled off my calf leather winter gloves. So realistic. Then you'd expect the leather to be all that remains in the drydown but what actually comes through is the sweetest inoffensive aura of violets which cross-fades through perfectly. Different and mesmerizing in equal measure.

I get the correlation between the perfume and its name. Not conventional but it made me smile so goes straight on my wish list.

thmsyssf

This is the most realistic suede note i’ve ever found, and the drydown is heavenly with soft violet and beautiful orris. I can’t believe that I’ve found what seems to be the signature blend of perfectly sweet violet with suede, which I have been longing for so long. The performance is just OK but i’ll be spraying liberally and you should too.

spumyland

Allucenogic Pearl starts with a nice English punk jacket of worn white suede and dangling metal buckles. Bergamot and lip gloss emerge over time, but the jacket holds on! It darkens with pencils, glows with moss, still enhances and subsides in a pair of dusty purple suede gloves.
Particular.Elegant.Familiar. Fortunately for me I have little ambrette, I don't like it. If it were a song it could be Prince's Purple Rain.

Cherry_Darling

Wow I am getting a bomb dot com leather here. I think Emma left all the leather in the bottom of the sample for me, because, I have her sample, and this is the most realistic leather I have come across in my life. I feel like I just walked into a shoe shop, one of those fancy leather ones. It's an almost petrol-esque, rubbery (but genuine) leather. Maybe the orris and pepper boot it up. Very masculine, fairly dry, but not so much that a baddie can't pull off.

PerfumedParrot

Leathery suede-like nothingness. I keep putting more and more of this on and it’s not giving me much. I like a fragrance that serves me face, body-ody-ody and brings it to the runway. This is a leathery whisper.

midoriland

Judging from other reviews here, I think I have a very particular reaction to Hallucinogenic Pearl. The drydown is almost overwhelmingly leathery-smokey saddle-y — like the inside of a western shop. A really strong, almost savory, comforting smell. Then slowly something like peach blossom or osmanthus emerges (I know neither are listed but that's what it smelled like to me,) which feels totally unexpected by contrast but ends up balancing perfectly with the leather as it recedes to a kind of ambient hum in the back. This is one I kept smelling over and over again on my arm as the leather and peach kept shifting for me, sort of iridescent like its namesake.

Another thing — on me it lasts FOREVER. I can still smell it on my arm 12 hours later, and it transfers to clothes almost magnetically -- fully detectable on the sweater I had been wearing when I wore it again days later (primarily the peachy-osmanthus side.) When I first put it on, I left the room I had put it on in, and when I came back in 5 minutes later it was still hanging in the air. My mom walked into the room (a large living room) and asked what that smell was (in a pleasant way, lol.) So maybe my sample came from a strong batch.

I really like this one, it's very interesting and unique on me, though it's probably better suited to spring and summer than right now.

One of the best recent launches. Iris, violet, leather; powdery, slightly sweet, waxy, protective. It doesn't do to describe. Just to think in terms of emotions. The name is more perfect than anything I could say to describe the smell. Simply beautiful.

aishmiqru

Powdery but not at all sweet. It gives the skin a lovely texture, without adding anything too sharp or salient.

Such a gentle, wearable scent. A powdery, melancholic whisper. So well blended that the notes are difficult to make out.
The end effect reminds me a lot of something by excentric molecules. At first, I associated it with molecule 01. and it may be due the interaction between the pepper and the woods in the drydown. It's similarly versatile, I can imagine very few places where this would be inappropriate.

I had this blend on a plotter from a shop near from where i work and when i first sniffed it i realize that i do smell a hospital hallway with that clean, yet sterile like smell. So i took this plotter with another plotters and just kept them on my desk where i work, and that was today. Now, and since around 2 hours, i keep on sniffing that iris note over and over and i don't know where it came from! i thought it was the blend that i was wearing which is "La Nuit" by Paco Rabanne but i already know that La Nuit doesn't smell like that at all! so i kept on sniffing my clothes as i though it was something i was wearing in the past few days but i still didn't get it TILL i reached to this plotter and sniffed it and THAT WAS IT! It's just mesmerizing! an amazing leathery violette and iris at max. The blend when you sniff it from the plotter differs from if you sniff it from far away!

Just an unbelievable amazing blend for those who adores iris, leather, and violettes. Amazing blend.

Redgold19

I bought a sample of this perfume during the spring, when I was dancing the role of Tinker Bell in the ballet Peter Pan. It made me feel like I was a fairy. It was like flying among iridescent marshmallows.. sun-soaked and bubbly.

kateapple

This is almost all suede. Very realistic suede, too. A bit musky and with a light touch of orris, but really...this is suede in a bottle. Despite what I would consider a misleading name (I expected something a little more wild from a perfume with "hallucinogenic" in the name), this is a suede lover's dream.

jacf

This smells like a brand new pair of delicate suede shoes. As others have noted, I was not expecting such a strong suede scent from something called "Hallucinogenic Pearl." It's very soft and wears close, but I don't want to smell like suede. (And if I did, I would opt for Daim Blonde.)

Michelle12345678

Suede comes through here. The only other note I'm getting is orris.

It's surprising, the scent isn't anything I imagined with a name like 'hallucinogenic pearl.' I was expecting something a lot more exciting and multi-faceted.

I get four hours out of this.

VampsandTramps

I found this very similar to another 2018 launch, Diptyque's Fleur De Peau. They both smell hazy, as though you're smelling them through a fog. The Diptyque smells vintage due to the aldehydes, and the ALOF gets that vibe through a vintage iris, and they are both clean and approachable. The name seems really apt, as the fragrance smells white, luminescent and blurry. Nice though it's not my vibe.

Pianomelody

A parfum that tastes ancient but also modern.. an interesting fragrance. It opens with a strong ambrette note with a light touch of pink pepper and bergamot, fades after a while on a hypnotic violet. In drydown woods and musks give an almost "Gothic" atmosphere,a unique atmosphere, a beautiful and unforgettable parfume...
