Bentley For Men Absolute by Bentley is a Amber Woody fragrance for men. Bentley For Men Absolute was launched in 2014. The nose behind this fragrance is Michel Almairac. Top notes are Pink Pepper and Ginger; middle notes are Olibanum, Papyrus and Sandalwood; base notes are Atlas Cedar, Agarwood (Oud), Amber and Moss.

Bentley is launching the new fragrance which offers a more intense composition than the original version Bentley for Men from 2013. The first fragrance Bentley for Men was launched together with the edition Bentley for Men Intense, which was followed by promotion of the refreshing (lighter) edition with sea aromas Bentley for Men Azure. As announced, the new perfume Bentley for Men Absolute will contain a stronger composition which highlights flavors of wood and spices.

As an extremely masculine, woody-oriental fragrance Bentley for Men Absolute offers the mysterious and intense character of oud, leaving a trail of sophisticated essences. Top notes encompass a vigorous blend of ginger, pink pepper and olibanum, followed by scents of papyrus, sandalwood and Atlas cedar in the heart of the composition. The base warms us additionally with amber, intense oud and moss.

The fragrance arrives in a bottle shaped like the previous editions for men, in the amount of 100 ml Eau de Toilette. Unlike the previous flacons, the new edition arrives in matte black glass combined with golden color details.

Hello fans! I had 3 bottles of this fragrance and now I only have 2. The first one I bought was produced in 2022 and I was impressed with the fragrance but unfortunately I was disappointed with the performance... - it smelled great but not for more than an hour then it lingered just a memory of the great fragrance. After reading introductions and comments about the fragrance, I looked for old batches and luckily I was able to find a bottle from 2019. Love killer...... The smell is rich and lasting, the same as from the 2022 bottle, but there is nothing in common - the fragrance is long lasting and even after 5 hours I can feel its projection from my neck. I was able to return the bottle from '22. Since the scent is specific and grabbed me, I looked for more old bottles. I found one from 2018 and bought it. I can't be sure because I only used it once, but the scent was extremely strong for the first 4 hours, then I showered without scrubbing too much where it was applied.......the next 4 hours after the bath the scent was there and there was a distinct projection of 30 cm. So, I find the 2018 bottle extremely strong and keep it as a reserve. The new batches have no change in the fragrance but unfortunately they don't have the same longevity and projection as the old bottles.... I don't know why it happens as the cans say the same ingredient content is used but there is a difference... .

There are many comments that it resembles Gucci pour homme from 2003. Whether it is - I don't know, because I don't have such a bottle, but even if it doesn't resemble any famous brand and fragrance, it has an amazing and unique sexy, masculine smell of candle and church that every man should have. Unfortunately, the 22nd year bottles don't deserve any attention as the smell will only last until you walk out. Very sad but true....

I consider this one a more sociable cousin of Encre Noire. It opens very aromatic with pink pepper and ginger, I sense less of the ginger and more of the pepper, which makes the opening very bright. Soon, however, the base and heart notes come in, especially cedar, frankincense, and papyrus. The cedar brings a very dry woody touch, a dryness that is reinforced by the papyrus, which brings the famous extremely rough "paper smell" that almost reaches the point of being salty. Sandalwood appears little on my skin, just enough to slightly soften this dryness, rounding off the woody combo. Frankincense lends a smoky and incense-like tone, reminiscent of ecclesiastical incense. Oud appears very little, serving more as a reinforcement for the woody cedar and papyrus, giving a slight medicinal tone.

Beneath all of this, moss brings a light touch of "dark green" to the perfume, making it more opulent, and the amber, very discreetly, brings a certain warmth to the perfume, enhancing the smokiness of the frankincense.

In summary, it's an extremely woody, sugar-free, and smoky perfume. In this one, I feel all the images and atmospheres that I feel in Encre Noire, however, I find this one less challenging and slightly more bright. Its scent strongly resembles that of a pencil, more precisely, the wood of a pencil. While Encre Noire evokes the image of a Gothic church with its old pews, this one is more like a still ancient church, but renovated with waxed and well-maintained pews, equally somber, dark, and mysterious. Its performance is reasonable compared to its Lalique cousin, lasting well for the first 7-8 hours and projecting moderately for about 1.5 hours. It's a shame that such unique and wonderful perfumes fall short in performance. Although I love the scent of this one and Lalique's, the lack of performance makes me prefer other alternatives with a similar vibe, like Vetiver de Noir from Sapientiae Niche, which has the same atmosphere with much better performance.

Ground hound

Surprisingly niché and complex for its price.
Sweet timber, resin, pepper and amber. Dark, well-layered and strangely low priced.

stroobery

my favorite scent of anything ive ever smelt, too bad the performance is also the worst is ever seen, lasts about 1.5 hours with terrible projection, too bad since it smells heavenly, dont recommend buying tbh

Palmsquad

It smells nearly identical to Gucci Pour Homme!
My dad used my whole bottle of Gucci while I was away at college in 2007. It was one of my all time favorites! I was devastated and then even worse when I heard they discontinued it.
The first time I smelled Absolute… SO MUCH JOY! It brought me right back to 2007. Also because I hadn’t smelled it in so long! It was kind of like when a dog reunited with an owner who had been away with the military and they smell the owner and are uncontrollably wagging and jumping… that’s how I felt 😂😂

plumtobacco

never smelled the gucci this is supposedly a dupe for so i cant speak on that.

its hard to describe besides just "dark woody". batman on a budget

went through a couple bottles of this before i got more into fragrances (ig it was my signature scent?)

i just have a travel size now to smell for nostalgia.
this is amazing for the price and its kind of under rated next to the intense.

I don't know the Gucci, but to me this does smell very much like like a less powdery/dusty/textured, slightly darker version of Comme des Garçons 2 Man. Actually I'm surprised how similar they are, aside from the immediate openings, with the kumquat and so on in 2 Man (the side notes to the woody stuff). I even get the slight banana-like note in this that I get in 2 Man and many other woody fragrances with some more or less exotic touches. (This is probably more cedary-minty than 2 Man, but no, it does not immediately remind me of my cedar humidor. The scent of pencil shavings, however, is obvious here if I think of it.) This is all fine by me, since, despite liking the smell of 2 Man, I could never bring myself to buy a bottle of it, because it didn't wholly feel like a daytime fragrance, didn't wholly feel like an evening fragrance, and certainly didn't wholly feel as if it were both. I always found it to be something of an "afternoon" fragrance (not something I've particularly coveted), but this Bentley takes a similar scent profile and gently nudges it in the direction of evening, although this is also understated enough to be wearable during the day. I suppose the absence of aldehydes makes this more laid-back and almost literally less abrasive than 2 Man.

Unfortunately my first impression is that something else that this may share with 2 Man is indeed a lack of longevity. I say this is as someone who definitely can smell the usual isomers of Iso E Super. (It's just about the only thing I can still smell in the old bottle of Encre Noire original that I've just replaced.) Still, I'm sure this will work well enough on clothes. The smell itself merits a little experimentation and credit.

TWN2RBO

Don’t listen to the people that are anosmic to iso e super, this is a very long lasting fragrance. I sprayed 5 shots of this on my hoodie 3 days ago and I still smell it, strong. This is a 2024 bottle off Amazon too. I have thousands of dollars worth of niche fragrances, and yet I always want to pull this one out. It’s so high end smelling, which I still can’t believe for the price. It’s an amazing woody cedar cigar box type smelling scent. Best $35 I’ve spent on perfumery in my life. 10/10 for that, much much better than Bentley for men intense, which is a good scent I own as well, but it smells a little cheap for my taste.

AllThatJaZZ

Not a bad perfume, glad i got to experience this beauty. Finished my bottle of Bentley Absolute with great memories... I wore this mostly on weekends chillin out at home. I found it close to another beauty... John Varvatos Dark Rebel Rider.

ttsib

Blind buy as I love the Intense version. This is way darker, less mass appealing and less all rounder, but every now and then I love using it, especially when it is super cold outside.

POTFORTY2

It’s resinous cedar that gives a classic masculine church vibe. You’ll either really love it or appreciate it but say it’s not for you. I don’t imagine a young person finding this fits their energy as likely as an older person. For the price it’s a no brainer I am a niche collector and have a backup bottle of this as it’s truly unique and punches way above its price in quality. I find it highly appealing and absolutely love it.

I have never tried Gucci Pour Homme I and I don’t care to. Even if it’s ‘better’ I doubt it’s a difference worth $400 and even if it was worth the price difference I wouldn’t want to be attached to something that’ll become more difficult to replace over time. I never own clones or imitations but in this case I would make an exception and don’t even care to try the original.

This is standalone and excellent fragrance a 10/10 not even ‘for the price’ I would rival this against my entire niche collection and say it stands at the top. It’s beautiful.

MaxMellows

One of my favorites, and unbeatable for the price if you like very dry woods, frankincense and papyrus. Barely sweetened, Bentley Absolute leans into an arid wood furniture feel and has a dusty quality to it that makes me think of museums and antiquity. Nic Cage's character in the ridiculous (but fun) movie National Treasure could smell like this. I would say Indiana Jones, but he might have a bit more loud masculine swag to his aroma. It's a little professorial yet not stodgy and has an explorer or traveler feel to it. It's seen some things, gained some wisdom. The vibe is warm, serious, well-read, but not a bookworm. Well-balanced.

The scent itself opens with spice and pepper, immediately mixing with a puff of frankincense that feels like a cloud of clean incense. Not like a cigarette, campfire, or anything aggressively smoky. The spice in the beginning makes me think of the heart of CDG 2 Man, but without the obvious cumin note. There's a dusty, not powdery feel to how the woods and spice interact, with it's very dry cedar and sandalwood combo. Unclear if there are any natural wood oils in this, but it doesn't matter because it is smells realistic enough to me. I don't pick up any strong amber sweetness fortunately, and any moss doesn't stand out to me.

Performance is actually pretty good for me, and fairly present in the air for the first half hour. The caveat is that it's never a super strong projector or room filler, so if that's what you like, look elsewhere. For a more introspective wearer, this stays lightly present for at least a few hours (sometimes more) sticking around on skin for at least 8 hours. I also think many go noseblind to this, myself included, as I catch whiffs once again when I move around or go outside.

It's great for an evening Zen scent, when you just want to chill out, read a book, watch a movie, or do something grounding or enriching. It feels a bit more cooler weather, and evening appropriate, as I like lighter, zingier, and more dynamic scents in the daytime and summer.

I haven't experienced Gucci Pour Homme, but I can say this is firmly in the same realm as CDG 2 Man, but just in the lower register notes. 2 Man is more dynamic, with the citrus, aldehydes and iris, giving it that wax candle feel. 2 Man also has a humid and sweaty feel to it at times, whereas Bentley Absolute is overall very dry, save for the small amount of sweetness for balance. If you love the general note profile, 2 Man could make a great daytime scent to Bentley Absolute's night.

Overall, a must check out for lovers of woods & incense, and dry, dark profiles without a lot of sweetness or sharp notes.

nísimaldar

This is like you stepped into a dry sauna. I'd describe this as dry dry dry WOODs, almost like sniffing pencil shavings. At the same time it's warm and a bit sweet, which is an unusual combination. That sense of warmth is what makes me think sauna. After the opening, the pepper fades and is replace by a sharp greenness, which I assume is papyrus. I don't get much olibanum; all I can think is that the olibanum and amber provide the sweetness that rests on top of the very prominent cedar shavings. I get zero smoke—these pencil shaving are fresh, warm, and sprinkled with a nondescript herb but not on fire.

It's clearly cheaper as the aroma has the somewhat scratchy quality I associate with cheaper aroma molecules (or really expensive MFK fragrances). That aspect is the only reason I'd score this 4/5 instead of 5/5. Is it amazing for its price, yes. But still, I guess I'd rather pay a bit more and get stuff I love. All that to say I'd be on the fence about a full bottle b/c I'm not sure how often I'd reach for this over something well composed at a higher price point.

nemee

My most favourite scent from Bentley.
For me it's pretty linear, doesn't change alot when wearing it, but it has depth.
The most prominent note for me is olibanum note, it's sweet and smoky-sweet, but not smoky in a harsh way, it's a warm and enveloping smoke (Probably because of amber), woody side of fragrance is also affected by that olibanum sweetness.
A good fragrance if you want to start your adventure with incense leaning fragrances.

I still have the Gucci Pour Homme(2003) kept it for special occasion, My best friend visited me and spotted the Gucci Pour Homme on my shelf and said i wish i can get this again, so out of curiosity i sampled Bentley for men absolute and it blew my mind, it's exactly the same but less sweet, the Gucci Pour Homme have a hint of vanilla sweetness and the amber is overwhelming, but on the Bentley it's more spicer and more so much more masculine, i personally and surprisingly will reach for the Bentley over the Gucci if i had it on my shelf, and my opinion or review is to help the people who feel bad that Gucci pour homme got discontinued, Get this immediately with backups before it gets a reformulated in the air they are 1:1 exactly the same, and same quality, on skin it's less sweet than the Gucci, as a gourmand lover i prefer this fragrance less sweet and more spicy and woody, there's no reason to hunt down the discountined Gucci pour homme when this is available and for very affordable price on discount, oh how i wish they'll do the same with original YSL M7 and Versace man EDT

After blind buying Bentley For Men Intense and being pleasantly surprised, I decided to blind buy this one after hearing about it in a YouTube video. Let's discuss:

Scent:
Opening is woody, smokey, and spicy. The primary notes I get are olibanum, papyrus, cedar, and oud. The strongest of the notes are the olibanum and papyrus. The olibanum brings a familiar warm spiciness while the papyrus brings a unique woody and smokey nuance. This is followed by the cedar and oud bringing more woodiness and the signature musk that only oud can offer. The dry down is woody, ambery, and smokey. The primary notes I get are amber, papyrus, cedar, and olibanum. The strongest of the notes are the amber and cedar for a warm, sweet, and woody accord, followed by the papyrus and olibanum for smoke along with added woodiness and warm spice.

Performance:
Initial projection is strong at around 6 feet. Sillage is strong as well with an easily noticeable scent trail. After 4 hours the projection was about 12 inches but the scent trail was still easily noticeable. At around hour 6 the fragrance became a skin scent with just a hint of a scent trail.

When to wear:
This is a fall/winter fragrance most suited for evening wear. It could work for the office as well, just go light on the sprays. This shines as a date night fragrance; warm and cozy but not overbearing.

Blind buy:
This is a safe blind buy if you like woody, sweet, and spicy fragrances.

Final verdict:
This is another solid fragrance by Bentley. It has a fantastic scent profile that is masculine and attention-grabbing while not being overpowering. The only drawbacks are that it doesn't last as long as its Intense sibling, about half as long actually; and the oud note will be off-putting to some. Still, for a price point around $30-40 its a great addition to any man's collection. If you like the notes it has to offer, pick it up while it's cheap.

I’ve been searching for Gucci Pour Homme for a very long time and when I stumbled on this and red the feedback I decided to give it a shot and wow. If it’s not an exact copy of GPH, it’s very close. Perfect for winter and it lasts long enough for my liking. So glad that I bought it.

TWN2RBO

This is all you need to know about this fragrance in 2024. First off, this was created by Michel Almairac, he also crafted GPH1, and Bond no 9 Dubai Platinum. This frag smells VERY similar to those, quality wise and all. The only difference I see is projection, it’s not a super look at me fragrance, but people will smell you. The longevity is actually really good on this fragrance. I got about 8-10 hrs on skin. Please keep in mind that this has iso e super in it , many people including myself can go nose blind to it fast or may not even smell it all. I must say, this is prob the best value fragrance I have picked up in a long time. What a gorgeous woody / incense type of smell. 9/10. 1000% worth $30 lol. Nothing at all smells synthetic or cheap. If this was in a bond no 9 bottle people would call it a masterpiece. Funny how marketing gets people so easy.

Dom Positano

The performance really isn't as bad as some make out.

roadrunner61

Love the scent just a shame it doesn't last long, for me anyway.

Lwjm

I came on here to see other people's experiences. A lot of these reviews seem almost copy and paste jobs. Maybe group think, maybe wisdom of the crowd.

Regarding performance - which is what most seem to want to comment on - one reviewer even suggests someone's bothered to fake a £20 scent and its packaging, and sent it to him.

I too thought it was weak. However, on Christmas eve when I opened the door to guests, they immediately said, "Wow! What's that amazing smell?!" I had a duplicate experience yesterday walking into a room - mum could smell it from the doorway.

So I've discovered that, although I can't smell it, others can. For those of you who maintain it's simply disappeared, I'd say... Go buy 1 Million, Bois Impérial, or Sauvage Elixir. They last for days. They will also warn people that you're approaching, which they might value. I'm not sure I buy your extravagant claims that it smells of nothing, and I think you've picked the wrong scent for yourselves.

Or spray some iso e super on first; that has extraordinary effects on scent performance, in my experience.

It is *extraordinarily* close to Gucci Pour Homme I; I bought this when I smashed my bottle of GPH1. I mopped it up with a t shirt and put it in a bag. It's very, very close.

Perfumer007

Smokey olibanum oil, with a lot of peppery leathery cedryl iso e superish ashtray vibe, linear and unfinshed composition

twoism

Dismal performance on what otherwise is quite a nice scent. It shares similarities with CDG2 Man however it is "dirtier", cruder smelling and lacks that CDG shimmering quality.

Juice+Of+God

I still have with 30 ml, already with 7 years my bottle has, until out of curiosity I will buy today, I will order, because... I hear that the parameters are miserable.... if this is the case it is very not good, but I will check for myself on my own skin, from my bottle I achieve 9, 10 hours of persistence and 3 hours of projection so at the reach of a simple hand...greetings....

zubinkhalili

Perfect woody smooky perfume , smells like Rum and wood togheter.
Although the performance is not good. Lack of performance is very disappointing for this masterpiece

smelllessperson

Just received this yesterday from Jomashop. My wife doesn't like it and I can barely smell it. 🤔

Did I go nose blind or this lasts 3 minutes?

Flatoutchad

This brings wook out in such a good way. I absolutely love this scent. It's close to the Gucci one everyone goes nuts about. Picture in school, you are sharpening you lead pencils, dead on, spice it up in good ways.

This is pure class. I enjoy this leaps and bounds more than anything else ten times as expensive.

lostsoul007

Man this stuff is strong. Not great if you have a weak stomach, especially off the opening. But if you’re more seasoned and like more natural or Oud frags check this out.

Definitely an Oud accord that shows rather quickly. The slightly sour and zesty blend of ginger, pink pepper and papyrus of course go very well together and nicely pave the way for a seamless transition into the heart of an obvious sandalwood and cedar. The olibanum is present throughout the life of the wear and is rather intriguing, however I really enjoy incense and leather. The amber is very nice and a welcomed supporting note although it’s not very prominent.

I really like this one. If you’re looking for a long lasting, mature and masculine fragrance this is great. Countless mentions of the lumber department and while yes it’s mostly dry and woodsy this is a very dark fragrance. Not really fun or playful, but very serious and commanding. I figure I should point that out since I was expecting something brighter and one dimensional. Although this is fairly linear, it has depth. Good stuff.

gospodinov_s

My great -grandfather had an old carpentry shop and gave me to play around him and master things from low quality and soft pine details. Nearby were the old books of the machines , that I was pretending can read. That reminds me exactly that.

YoungReezy

Elegant, linear fragrance. Deep woods smell with a top note of freshly cut cedar. I agree with the comments relating the smell to the Home Depot woods section, with more depth and ginger/spice present. Not a great blind buy but great price.

JusttheFactsMan

#425 in my "Tour de Fragrance"

I liked Bentley for Men Intense, but not the rum. This is a HUGE improvement! Great long-lasting, all day skin scent with good sillage. I bought this bottle in April. No idea when any reformulation is supposed to have occurred, but this stuff is great and I love it. It's in fact more versatile than the rummy Intense. Much more powdery. Kinda reminiscent of Dior Homme Intense. Love the moss here. At this price just buy it!

Sarjoz

Pleasant familiar woody scent.
Reminds me of Azarro Visit, with a hint of gucci pour homme.

SorcelEver

God...I want to love this one so bad, wish Fragrantica have crying emoji in the rating because that is how I felt about Bentley For Men Absolute.

First, this starts so perfect for me. Dark sweet woody incensy that gives warm and sophisticated feels. Dark academia vibe is pretty accurate. It's not one of those mainstream scents but not too edgy. Very addictive, I love, love, love the opening and middle so much.

BUT!.... 2 hours later, it turns into ash tray smell that hurt my nose and gives me headache. Oh god why....
I've tried it in different situations for 3 weeks and the result remain the same. Maybe the cause is my body chemistry...I don't know.

And longevity is about 8 hours on me ...I guess it's a con.

Deekerr16

This quickly became a favourite of mine. It smells like a really good old book - the papyrus is fairly prominent. Big dark academia vibes, great for someone trying to smell studious.

steynar

Instant favourite. This stuff is so goddamn good. Woody, balsamic, deep, unapologetically masculine. Lasts all day and people do not stop smelling this on me. I go noseblind almost instantly but other people tell me all the time how long this stuff lasts.

HighCountryEsq

Reading some of the reviews Bentley Absolute must have been reformulated. I have two bottles I bought in 2017, one I've used with 50% left and another back-up bottle still sealed. If it has been reformulated I am glad I bought two bottles in 2017 when the performance was awesome.

littlejssn

Blind bought this after watching the "Monika Colognes" video on it, as I generally find her tastes to be aligned with mine. Immediate thought upon first spray: This f*****g rules. A bonfire in an autumn forest in Montana. If you are a fan of Encre Noire, there's a very good chance that you're going to like this. It isn't inky like Encre Noire, but it still has a sort of evil quality to it. On the fresher side of the scent, a lush pine.

I do not like Bentley Intense at all. I don't know why anyone would want to smell like a divorced uncle with scotch on his breath. This feels like it's for a different audience entirely.

The drydown, sadly, happens quickly, and as the top notes fall away, the base does begin to smell slightly more artificial than the initial blast of "national park on steroids". I have yet to try this on clothing but I suspect more of the top would retain itself for longer if I were to. For $30, this is a banger.

Messidor

Very likely I got a fake bottle or some watered down cologne version (produced in 2022), as the scents stay for only 1h on blotter and maybe projects for 2h on cotton fiber, if it's sprayed in a usual manner. One has to spray really close to fiber to concentrate the juice, so this nice woody can stay longer for savering.

I can tell the initial ginger and pink pepper feel, accompanied by olibanum, which is plumlike, papyrus, which is wood shavingy, and sandalwood, which is quite thin here. There is also incense occasionally floating around. During the drydown after about 1 or 2h when the projection is almost over, papyrus and incense will make a duet. Cedar or whatever during the end stage is nowhere to be detected. On skin, the process is much accelerated and obviously altered. After about 1h of a trio of olibanum, papyrus and incense (other notes are but stage setting) that mimicks a burnt bark, ambery sandalwood will take over the last act without much projection.

Though I find this juice soothing since my first try four months ago, it's projection and longevity are unsatisfying. So I have to give it a like at best even tho I wanted to give a love for the scents.

Teaman

Smells pleasant and good to me. Developement is quite rapid. Within 15 minutes You get the basenotes. But my bottle E0023(2023-02) can not be called EDP. More like a cologne. More spraying does not really make the scent stay longer or project heavier. So longevity and sillage are weak. I have not smellled GPH, so i can not really comment on that. I paid 28,40€ for this. And i think that was the right price for this. Overall i was bit dissapointed since i liked Bentley for men intense quite a lot. Overall I would rate this about 3,5/5, since it leaves something to be desired.

MrByrd

fantastic fragrance for the first 15 minutes, then it fades to a skin scent. Alas, it this had better projection it would be a superstar (price point considered).

pejatibia

Subtlety can be a fragrance's strength, but in the case of Bentley for Men Absolute, it emerges as its shortfall. While positioned as an amber woody scent, it lacks the staying power and layered complexity one might expect.

Upon the first spray, the top notes of pink pepper and ginger are practically non-existent in my opinion. It swiftly dives into its core: a blend of olibanum, papyrus, and sandalwood. The experience, however, is far too fleeting — its longevity is notably short.

One could best describe the scent profile as linear; it maintains a monotonous consistency throughout its brief lifespan. The journey reminds me of walking through a centuries-old wooden church: the faint lingering of incense, oilish balsams, and a religious ambience that's somehow both sacred and mundane, evoking the essence of mythical hallowed woodlands.

While it does evoke an atmospheric, woodsy aroma — think pencil shavings meets aged timber — the scent ultimately feels empty. In my view, it feels like the intention was to create a base for what could be a stellar 10/10 fragrance, yet much is left to be desired.

Although Bentley for Men Absolute might appeal to those seeking a budget-friendly alternative to some overpriced second-hand Gucci Pour Homme — I can't personally vouch for the comparison as I've never smelled it.

In summary, this fragrance neither captivates nor offends; it's simply there, a wisp in the olfactory spectrum. It lacks both sillage and depth, presenting a 'religious smell' that fails to convert. For the seekers of olfactory tales that linger and captivate, the quest must go on.

EDIT: Enrico Gi Oud Magnifico is very similar to this but better.

It's a beautiful fragrance, and it does smell similar to GHPH1, I'd say it's 70% there, so it saves me using up the 65ml or so I have left stashed away without needing to pay £300+ for a replacement, but man it's so weak. I can barely smell it even when first sprayed, then it just disappers slowly.

I've clearly got a reformulation as the performance on this is supposedly good to great, on me it's woeful. It's a skin scent rightaway, and I have to bury my own nose to even detect it.

I really wish it had more punch to it as it's sublime when I pick it up, but it's just incredibly subtle. I'd had it on for around 45 minutes and asked my fiancée to smell my neck to see if she liked it, and she couldn't detect anything. I'm the same when I spritz some on my wrist, but I thought perhaps it's a scent that I go anosmic to, but she'd not been near it so should have gotten a good blast of it.

I'll give it a few months to macerate, see if that makes a difference. It's just really disappointing when you come across something you love, only for the performance to let it down. I can say the same about Gucci by Gucci too, I love that and again, awful performance lets it down only with that, it's a 2-3 hour one, this doesn't even get there.

I missed the boat on this one, seems like I should have got it 5 years ago. If it doesn't improve over time I'll just use it for bedtime as I do absolutely adore the scent. If anyone asked me for a recommendation, I'd have to say look for an older bottle on Ebay or something as I couldn't recommend it to anyone based purely on it being undetectable in less than an hour. It's like having a gorgeous looking car that won't ever start up.

flashpapas

I can bathe in this😊 ...it is soo addictive 😍

Makes me happy whenever I have this on, for the first 2weeks i got this, i wore it to bed as a bedtime scent.

Bentley For Men Absolute...I really enjoy this one for close encounters & intimate meetings.

Fantastic woody masculine scent said 2be a replacement 4the discontinued Gucci Pour Homme.

I adore this!!! ✨️🥰💖❤️

ismellsomething

I saw YT review that is 2023 batch changed, but for mine MOM20 (2020-12), I can tell its strong with both projection and longevity. This scent throws me back into childhood when we played near outside town's sawmill and took parts of freshly cut wood leftovers to play with.

Vivid Laser Eye Gawd

My favorite Bentley fragrance! Smells like Black & Mild Wine smoke, sandlawood, moss and cedar! A great smoky fragrance.

Chris6815

Smells like pencil shavings. That’s all I pick up in the air from this fragrance. It didn’t project or last a long time either. I’m hugely disappointed in this fragrance.

shanegrace

This is my autumn evening fragrance advised by Marin Kristic on ‘Scent Grail’.

Just enough spice in it to shake off the summer fruits without getting too ‘bold’ or ‘winter fragrance-y’.

Easy to layer with Tabac shower gel, deodorants etc. Lots of compliments at arms-length.

sem413

This is very woody, and at first I thought it smelled like a fart. But as it developed, I got more wood and richness. It's very dry and might be good for layering, but it needs 15-30 minutes to develop into something pleasant.

I don't get pencil shavings like other people, but I do get tree in a forest.

DIABOULIKAL

It’s so very woody. It literally smells like tree bark.

dokei

Realistic wood. Pencil shavings. In a good way.
Didnt love it, but you might.
6/10.
It does last a decent ammount tho 5h on me

A.Brock

Incredible value. Deep, smokey incense and woody notes. Reasonable projection and very good longevity. Calming, restrained fragrance. Very masculine. Winter and Fall. Haven't tried Gucci Pour Homme this reminds me of CDG Man 2, albeit sweeter. Lovely fragrance

Frasknas

I get pure woods with this. Pencil shavings is an apt description. It destroys my nose though. Instantly nose blind. So I had a hard time figuring out if I actually like it or not. But I think I do. But I generally don't keep scents I can't smell myself. So I sold my bottle in the end. Thinking of giving it another go since I'm yearning for a woods heavy scent at the momemt.

Eau d'euphorie

Was very excited when I got it that's maybe the reason I'm so disappointed. Good smell, woody oudy. But very weak sillage and over spraying doesn't help. So I guess a positive is it's office save...

Bonifac

I'm confused after reading the comments that Bentley Absolute has good longevity. For me, its longevity is half an hour and its sillage is very weak. I recently sprayed it all over my body and also on my clothes. After 5 hours it was completely gone, no one could smell it even on clothes up close. I no longer have any perfume that disappears from my clothes without a trace after a few hours.

Dom Positano

This is absolutely brilliant. The scent is very dry woods, oud and a very small amount of warmth from some resins. It's masculine, classy and different. Would highly recommend.

The performance is really not that bad and I hate frags with poor performance. The price of the bottle allows you to do more sprays than usual and that will get you through the day.

For example, I did 8 sprays this morning at 8am and I can still smell it quite clearly at 4pm. It might seem crazy to do 8 sprays but it's really not expensive.

Rob321x

Best alternate to gucci pour homme I you could find, made by the same perfumer as well. If you need that GPHI itch and do not want to spend 400$+ luckily this perfumer blessed us with 95% of the same fragrance for 30$

NecroLust

I just sold my Gucci Pour Homme I on Mercari. This Bentley iteration is 95% the same. That percentage is me being cautious, because to my neophyte nose I can’t distinguish them at all.

EJJ

Really didn't like this at first. The opening has a smell familiar to moth balls but on the dry down it begins getting better, all the components start to stand out.

It's not very strong, so a heavy hand on the spray bottle might be needed. I can't understand when I would want to smell like this.

Stanisław Karubin

After spring first time, first reaction and association: Adidas Active Bodies, but later ... not really as Bentley is more linear, dry, woody. For me it is like Bentley is one of the notes of Adidas of has the same backbone.

I remember that I immediately felt in love with GPH, not last time I had it like 7 years ago, so I can not compare, but I didnt have the same feeling here.

Although I can compare with Parle Moi De Parfum Papyrus Oud 71 which I also have currently and as it can be easily anticipated Parle Moi is deeper, this papytus note is like fresher, or simply higher quality and as it more 'stable'on the skin, Bentley power quickly runs away and becomes sweeter.
Need to say though, if you would like to spray on yourself with both on the same time they will perfectly match.

Finally if I would choose one scent, I go for Parle Moi.
If I need to choose one which I will use and which I will need to pay then Bentley will be the one :)

Guitar 2016

It is a nice scent, Smoky, Spicy, Bitter, Dark, Dense,Mysterious and Woody. This is a linear fragrance with very Dark Smoky notes in Depth and It doesn't change. I bought it blind-buy after reading the positive comments, It opens up with warm spicy and Smoky then dry down is smoky woody. It smells similar to medicinal herbal and pencil shavings. The Agarwood (Oud) and The Olibanum notes are dominant in this perfume from the opening up to the dry down. Longevity is very good.

Came here to clear this up.

@Xanovia is incorrect. Michel Almairac's son did not say they were the same.

There is an interview on this site where Michel Almairac's son clearly states Bentley Absolute is made with the same recipe as Gucci Pour Homme, minus the Tom Ford additions. The whole concept of a recipe with additions is confusing and folks just skim over it. And stating this follows the Gucci Pour homme recipe MINUS those additions, boom, mind blown.

Let me show you thumpthing!
Gucci Pour homme consists of recipe and Tom Ford Additions.
Bentley Absolute consists of recipe.

Bronstet

* Unique cologne with an amazing mix of wood, spice, incense, oud and powder aromas
* Dry cologne; perfect for those who hate sweet fragrances
* Very good performance
* Classy bottle
* Niche quality and performance for less than designer cost

* Scent may be polarizing due to the oud wood not
* Not as mainstream appealing as the original and the Intense, Azure and Absolute flankers due to lack of sweetness
* Not unisex
* Not suitable for younger users

Bentley for Men Absolute is an amazing cologne. A heady, enticing and unique mix of wood, spice, incense, and oud wood. Amazingly, unlike most fragrances whose opening notes disappear after the drydown, Absolute's stick around continuously even as the baby powder aroma sets in to complete the full package.

This is honestly great and one of just 3 colognes that literally tickled my nostrils on first smell (Dior Sauvage Elixir and Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb Extreme being the other two). Definite nosegasm material here. It's also extremely dry, certainly the driest of any Bentley cologne, which really gives a crispness to the fragrance. The sweetness that is a hallmark of the original and other Bentley flankers is completely absent here. Add in the usual classy Bentley bottle design and very good overall performance you've genuinely got a nice level cologne for far less than designer level price. Not as cheap as discounter, but still an insanely good value.

All this said, the dryness and the oud wood can make this very polarizing. The sweetness that is the hallmark of many mainstream appealing colognes, including its own predecessor and fellow flankers Intense and Black, is completely absent here. Without either sweetness or floral notes, this is very much a masculine cologne. It is not unisex and it is not suitable for younger users who tend to go for fresh sweet colognes overall.

This is good for older men in their late 20's or early 30's and beyond. Suitable for both festive and serious occasions, cooler weather and nighttime activities. This is a great cologne overall and a definite recommend.

FreddieB4Life

If you want to smell like you been working with lumber, well this is it. This is what you call Niche.

Kyjawa nose

Not for me very dark, spicy and resinous. It reminds me of killer oud, a cheap amouage clone. I've give it a few wears and wanted to give it a chance but all I get is a linear mess of spice and incense with no character if your expecting Bentley intense or black you'll be disappointed but everyone experience is different and it does get good reviews and done by a very good perfumer but not for me I'm afraid

dibsr97

I get the appeal, but this nearly made me sick

I generally like woody scents but this is far too overwhelming and rough around the edges. Pure woods, far too dry and smoky for me.. almost smelt like a damn bushfire burning havoc on my skin. Needs something to balance it out imo, unless you're into that

RobbieX

A beautiful "pencil leads" with some smoke perfume. High quality and nicely sweet. A classic in my opinion.

OneThinksOneNose

To my untrained nose, Bentley For Men Absolute smells very similar to Nasomatto's Duro and Montale's Aoud Musk. Unfortunately, unlike Duro and Aoud Musk, BfMA performs poorly and is only detectable on my skin if I hold my nose close to where I sprayed, and this will last only about thirty minutes at most before completely disappearing. This is a scent I love but I don't recommend buying. While BfMA is very inexpensive in comparison to Duro and Aoud Musk, its performance reflects its price.

YourWan

Splash of red pepper to start... Then into the woods... A wearable different out the gate... This is a serious find... Around 12 beautiful incense overlays the woods and I think I get hint of patchouli although not listed... After lunch it retires to a lovely smooth scent... The amber smooths the cedar to almost a creamy sandlewood... It doesn't scream but you can still detect it after 6 in the evening, so the whole working day... Very good for a cheapy.... Just behind Bal Ultimate, Rochas Moustache maybe but still very good... I'd say a love... This is beautiful... Top 3 cheapy... A+++... The more you wear it the better it gets, especially on cooler days... Top Drawer... Fighting for top spot on best cheepy ever... Enjoyed it so much, wore 2nd day in a row which doesn't happen often I think this is top of the class cheapy... A+++... Simply Beautiful.....

I’m pretty sure this (Gucci PH 1) was groundbreaking in 2003 especially from a western house. It’s very woody and smoky, and pretty unique even today.

However, I can’t help but feel it is a bit too challenging, especially compared to alternatives today. It’s too much woods and incense, with not much else. The incense here is also more on the smoky/burnt side as opposed to the meditative, soothing slightly boozy side.

The alternatives I’m talking about are Encre Noire A L’Extreme, Comme Des Garcons 2 Man, and Wonderwood. All of these are so much more wearable, yet also more complex. My favorite is the EN A L’Extreme. The incense there is ‘sweeter’ and more soothing, not smoky. The vetiver gives it a hint of greenness and is therapeutic in the dry down. The elemi to give it a bit of waxy citrus feel.

As much as I wanted to love this given I love this category and appreciate this one’s history, I don’t find myself wearing it at all, so it’s going.

isthisavailibleffs

My favourite Oud frag yet, smells like a new guitar.

Sean Bodin

I bought it to replace my gucci pour homme.(2003/2007. It hits it very well.

lynwood234

I blind bought. It has a flat resinous, smokey and ash like quality. It feels like something is missing. It almost smells like asphalt or tar to my nose.

vbs221

I tried giving this a 2nd chance. My first assessment (many months ago) was that it was good, but I already have Encre Noire A L’Extreme which I preferred over this.

This time around, yeah it’s a nice woody fragrance, but I can’t help but feel it borderline smells like you were just smoking. It’s too dark and smoky. It literally smells like burnt woods, or like you’ve just smoked near a lumbar yard. And I absolutely hate cigarettes and don’t want anything associated with it.

I sprayed this on one hand and Encre Noire A L’Extreme on the other, and was mindblown by the difference in complexity and scent. The Lalique is so much more complex and truly smells like an Amouage or Chanel, scent-profile wise. It’s also much safer and more crowd pleasing, in my opinion.

I thought since I loved the A L’Extreme so much, that I’d at least appreciate this for what it is. Turns out it spoiled me. I very highly recommend you get A L’Extreme instead of this. AC from Smells Good channel also agreed with this in his review of this fragrance.

Y2ussef

Smells like ginger and pine. It is too strong and harsh for me personally. I get a headache everytime I wear it.

_hypnotic_

Amouage cloned this (and GPH 1) with Boundless, if you like Bentley Absolute (or Gucci Pour Homme 1) but it's little too strong for you, go for Boundless.

NezParfumeur

@Xanovia is correct. Gucci Pour Homme (2003 release) aka GPH is not the same formula as Bentley For Men Absolute (BFMA). GPH has many more notes. The common notes present in both are:
ginger, pink pepper, papyrus, cedar, sandalwood, and moss (moss in BFMA & Oakmoss in GPH). Oakmoss is a lichen, but moss is a plant. I believe oakmoss has a richer scent profile. Correct me if I err.

If you can get a sample (1-2 ml suffices at a reasonable price) of GPH, savor the full spectrum of its precious notes. For me, it is one of the best fragrances ever made. Of course each nose is different and our olfactory preferences. GPH & BFMA are non 1:1 but they are most certainly extremely close. Benjamin Almairac, son of Michel Almairac - the creator of GPH - said they are the same fragrance. Most likely he said this because of the prominence of the overlapping notes which make the two so very close. Don't pay those shamefully abhorrent prices out there for GPH when you can truly enjoy BFMA which most certainly has the same prominent notes as the original and smells SO VERY CLOSE TO IT.

I use GPH sparingly. I use BFMA frequently, when I want to enjoy the overlapping notes it shares with GPH because it indeed reminds me of GPH. Both are wonderful scents. Could I tell the difference if blindfolded & asked to smell each one? I think so because BFMA is an edp as Xanovia mentioned. The strength of the fragrance is easily discernible. It packs more punch.

Xanovia

Again...

Sorry but these are not the same... I know what Michel's son has said but just looking at the ingredient listings on the back of the two boxes alone will show these are not the same... GPH1 was created 20 years ago and I'm sorry but with changes made by IFRA I don't think it would be possible for it to be the same formula even if they wanted it to be... As I have said before I own both fragrances and yes they are very close but they are simply not the same... Perhaps if GPH1 had not been discontinued this is what a reformulated version of GPH1 would smell like and I'll be honest I could get behind that idea... BUT the fact remains that these are not the same...

Changes and tweaks happen to fragrances with the same name over the years because of changes caused by IFRA so reformulations can and WILL happen. So besides what your nose tells you smelling these side by side (which I have done) the ingredient lists on back of late boxes of GPH1 (Earlier boxes of GPH1 do not have a long listing of ingredients because it was not required at that time...) and Bentley Absolute do NOT match so again these CAN NOT be the same...

Also GPH1 was an EdT and Bentley Absolute is an EdP... So even if the fragrance formulas were exactly the same (and again they are obviously not based on the ingredients listings on the boxes) the fragrance to alcohol ratios are different which would again make them not the same because of the concentrations...

Look... I understand what has been said by Michel's son and I do not know if it was said for marketing reasons or what but the bottom line is this... Don't just blindly follow what you are being told and do some actual research... These are not and can not be 1 to 1 matches as Bentley Absolute contains ingredients that were not present in GPH1 .. My guess would be that they were added to the Bentley because of current IFRA limitations that were not present when GPH1 was still being manufactured and some ingredients can not be used at the same level that they originally were used... If you say they are the same then it's obvious that you do not own them both and have never compared them side by side...

I own both and love both of them... BUT documented facts prove they are NOT the same... Sorry if facts hurt your feelings...

FragChronic

87 people don't realize this is the same formula as GPH1,lol
Michel Almairac create both and in an interview on fragrantica, in his own words, says he sold the formula to Bentley ......how can you say they aren't similar?
oh...BTW, its great and I own both, I just sprayed one spray on each arm, they are the same!
this one is strong, projects well, and lasts a long time. What an unbelievable value , its one reason why I can't understand the $800 dollar price on GPH1.....buy this for under 50 bucks!!

Imcheap17

By far hands down best Bentley for men. Niche quality for $35 can't beat it. Dry, airy, woods, peppery and smooth as a babys bottom. Masterpiece

Zowiezo

Holy smoke! I imagine this is what it smells like dating a bishop and living together in the tower of the cathedral.

Andrew.R

Pencil shavings! All i smell is pencil shavings!

Bentley for men intense smells great though for the price.

Zumthor

Genvy, you're misunderstanding the quote you posted - he's pointing out the difference between Papyrus Oud and GPH, while only saying that BFMA is discontinued. Please watch Persolaise's ep90 interview on YT with Benjamin. At 34:32 you will hear that BFMA is absolutely the same as GPH.

Here, I'll also add for posterity:

"... Gucci Pour Homme is absolutely the same than [sic] Bentley Absolute, or is more like Bentley Absolute is absolutely the same as Gucci Pour Homme. It is absolutely the same. I asked Michel 4 days ago: what are the differences between Gucci Pour Homme and Bentley Absolute, he told me 'nothing, there is no difference'..."
- Benjamin Almairac 21-May-2020

genvy

Xanovia is correct. I own both and I even have the boxes of both. The formulas are plainly not the same. I don’t know what it is with people spreading this false info around that it’s the exact same and claiming Michel’s son said so. That’s explicitly not what he said. Period.

For posterity, the quote is:

“Actually, my father made three Gucci Pour Homme – the first was created for Gucci, the second was made for Bentley (Bentley Absolute For Men), and the third is Papyrus Oud. The first two are discontinued. There's a little less incense in our formula, and it's a little more oudy-musky, it's warmer and comfortable, my father likes our version better, since he does not like too much incense."

Michel made three different contenders on the same theme for Gucci. The focus groups went with the one that became known as the Gucci Pour Homme we know and love. Bentley Absolute is one of the other two variations.

His son even explicitly states the differences in one of the variations RIGHT THERE in the quote. Less incense, more musk, etc.

EDIT: I stand corrected! Benjamin has a separate quote in the interview I hadn’t heard, thank you Zumthor.

Still, this does not explain how very obviously different the two are when sniffed, and also doesn’t make sense when you know about the fragrance creation process and focus groups. And why would only the third variation (papyrus oud) be different? Perhaps Benjamin has a vested interested in generating buyers for his new fragrance, and so would want to decrease interest in GPH by saying it’s the same as Bentley?

It makes no difference, as anyone with an experienced nose owning both fragrances can tell you that the Bentley is very obviously not the same as the Gucci. Shun the opinions of those same types who think Armaf clones smell the same as Creeds or that Cool Water smells just like GIT.

Perhaps Benjamin would care to explain the self evident differences in formula listed in the ingredients on the boxes themselves? Farnesol in Bentley, not in Gucci? Geraniol as well? I could go on.

I have multiple bottles of GPH and of Bentley Absolute — the difference is clear and consistent for both, and none of the bottles have turned or changed. Everyone who I’ve shown the two fragrances to, blind and without any pre-imposed biases in questioning, can tell that there is an easily distinguishable difference between them.

Frankly, people who do not currently have both of these fragrances don’t have a credible opinion on the matter. Many are going off their memory of what GPH smelled like, and studies have shown time and time again that memory is a highly faulty thing.

Xanovia

@Flaviu908 Actually no... This is NOT GPH1 and it's 100% not 1 to 1 as you are claiming. Same perfumer (Michel Almairac) and a take on his creation GPH1 yes (just like Papyrus Oud is also a take on GPH1 that he created for his own fragrance line Parle Moi de Parfum) but they are all 3 not the same. I have all 3 of these fragrances and they are all in the same ballpark/related to each other but they are not the same. I am sorry that you never got to smell GPH1 (as everyone can tell by your comment) but you see if you can get a small decant (same with Papyrus Oud from Parle Moi de Parfum) and compare the all three of these 'versions of GPH1' and see which version you like best. I assure you they are all reminiscent of each other but still quite different. ^_^

Flaviu908

It is exactly the same Gucci Pour Homme formula used by Alierirac for Bentley. Even cheaper about 10 times than a current price for GPH1. What the world does not want to understand, out of infatuation and snobism, that it is fixed the same perfume 1 to 1. but it is easier to be snob and give 300-500 euros on a discontinuous perfume, than to enjoy Bentley. Being the same opulent perfume, it is among the most dark, meditative and liturgical perfumes that could ever be created. It leads you to the essence/cedar resin, fir of coniferic in general, a burnt incense - churches, of crying and an amber spiced by the dream. A perfume that made history, I love it!

Rehebeam

I first stumbled upon a GPH tester around 2009 as a 16-year-old and thought it was the most beautiful thing. Wore it to my junior high graduation, but of course found the full bottle too expensive to buy. So I instead got into Arabian attars.

Now that GPH is going for €1000 a bottle on eBay, I still find it to be overpriced. So I got this Bentley on instead.

It's odd to compare the two since it's been so long since I last wore the real thing. It seems to me that this one, though immediately familiar, is sweeter and sweatier, with less dry wood and spice. It almost feels a bit tacky.

But perhaps the times have changed instead.

hclivess

Strong cedar forest that has just been cut down and sap of those trees harvested into this beautiful juice. Can be easily combined with others.

AceOfSouls

It starts off somewhere in between the smell of a coat that has been worn near a camp fire and the smell of a cabinet made of cedar. As it dries down I feel there is a bran accord folded into the dry cedar. At the same time its comforting but not something I reach for too often. Might be good to use as a base for layering with another lighter, airier fragrance.

Giorgosproof

It really smells like body odor on the skin..weird

Edit: i get used to it i think,i like it. performance is low..projection does not exist

gabinel

This is it, this is Gucci Pour Homme I. I had my last bottle of GPH in the glove box of my car and one night it got stolen. I spent years trying to get a similar fragance and today i bought this Bentley parfum. Its the same, im complete again.

MrByrd

The primary notes are wood, oud, spice and incense. This is a great winter fragrance, which certainly smells more premium than the modest price tag would suggest. 7.5/10.

POTFORTY2

This stuff is amazing. I reach for it more than any niche house fragrance I have. It’s very well blended, unique, and transports me to such a beautiful place. It’s crazy how cheap it is given the quality. It’s been my dumb reach for a while and quickly became my signature scent. I don’t think it’s for everyone but do think it’ll add value to most anyone’s collection and is worth taking a chance at its price range. It reminds me of Gucci Intense OUD in ways but has a more woody less fruity vibe and is a quarter the cost.

CoachSutton

Very nice boozy, woody scent. IMO, a lot better than the ultra hyped BFMI. Not as strong as its cousin, but no slouch either - about 6-7 hrs. Very masculine and mature. Oakmoss harkens back to an old school fougere.

Scent of gentleman

The quality is so good for the price. Beautiful masculine woody fragrance. Bold fragrance for bold mature guys who dare to stand out. Salute!

PFfrangrance

Complete steal for the price. One of my new favorites. Spicy ginger and peppercorn in the opening. Dry sandalwood and cedar with a very subtle whisper of funk in the dry down (assuming it’s the oud). I love it. If you, like me, are a fan of Montale Greyland, but cannot find it anywhere, this is an adequate (although slightly less funky) replacement. The dry down is incredibly similar.

Camazing

I was excited to get this as blind buy but as I awaited the order arrival the more hesitant or shall I say buyers remorse after reading more into the reviews. However, I am glad I made the purchase. I dig the sharpened pencil smell and really like the opening. Definitely more of what would be called a “mature” scent. I think the Amber helps smoothen out that woody pencil note and I really enjoy it.

I was picking up traces of the scent into the 6 hour mark easily (active mostly indoor work setting) and always caught myself enjoying it each time I did. This may get updated as I get more wears in.

Spadz97

What a fantastic fragrance. I already own Bentley for men intense and love that fragrance so thought I would take a punt on this one as I love masculine, woody fragrances. This is a dry and woody fragrance which is mega masculine and surprisingly versatile. It is a very unique scent in my collection and has a woody, fresh spicy profile. I can't imagine younger guys being a fan of this compared to your typical modern scents as it doesn't have the compliment factor of a sauvage etc however this is masculine and powerful and definitely a solid addition to my collection. My wife complimented me wearing this fragrance which was a surprise as she prefers fresher, blue scents so it can garner compliments if you wear it with confidence. I wouldn't recommend you blind buy this fragrance unless you like strong, masculine fragrances but for the price it is a brilliant scent.

joopalainen

Blind bought this and hated it at first. All I got was pencil shavings and somewhat fecal notes. Left it on the shelf for a few months and now I'm starting to warm to it. I usually wear it just for myself. I don't expect compliments with this.

Alreadygentleman

What a fragrance!!! It was a blind buy and I didn't like it from the first spray because all I got was rosin. Like, literally! Rosin and that's it! But the more I wore it the more I became addicted to the scent and discovered more nuances of the fragrance! If to summarize all the feelings from this fragrance it would be calmness with richness of a high quality!!! And you feel that you need more and more of it! This scent becomes your second skin. It provides confidence and somehow calmness. It's more of aroma therapy, I would say! It's woody (very woody), oily and resinous! It becomes a tiny sweet in the dry down but it's not cloying in any possible way! This fragrance is for people who understand perfumery!!! Not for teenagers or an average consumer!!! It's a hundred percent masculine fragrance!!! I highly recommend it!!!

Cooling321

Soooo good! But shocking bad performance.

Captain Odour

It's Pour Homme I. Well. Asterisk.

I think people are under the illusion that it's a cheap clone because of its $30 price tag, but don't forget that PH1 used to be priced between $30-50 before the discontinuation train hit.

Are there differences? Yeah, absolutely. The drydown isn't spot on. PH1 is heavier, has more pepper and has a slight boozy quality to my nose. Bentley, on the other hand, comes across a little lighter, and a little creamier. If we were comparing $30 to $50, I'd probably spring for Pour Homme I. But we're comparing $30 to $300 at minimum. This is 90 percent of the fragrance that Pour Homme is, for 10 percent of the price.

For those who have a bottle of Pour Homme I, I'd still recommend a pickup of the Bentley. I'd say it could be used as a fantastic base for Pour Homme I to be applied on top of. For those who don't, this is probably your best option.

Mystères du Château de Dé

I must have an indulgent nose. Absolute smells resiny, fragrant, with an aromatic blush. Yes in theory these are mostly dry notes but there is sap and resin left in the blend.

Michel Almairac perhaps likes his creation since he allowed it to jump brands. Not to mention whatever he was paid by Bentley, of course. It's a chic and masculine designer fragrance that survives reformulations. It could have been reissued just as well by Brioni, Armani, Dior, etc. His Fahrenheit has changed over the decades but it's still recognisable and still elegant. Pity he doesn't reanimate Minotaur to something delightful and high quality.

RLB1979

It smells like either saw dust in a wood shop or pencil shavings and oddly I don't mean that in necessarily a bad way, it's woody, dusty and dry scent, but if you like woody masculine scents you might like this, if you buy fragrances for compliments this probably isn't going to get you many if any at all, but I actually do like it, projection and longevity are decent as well

Ole_Factory

Smells like my grandpa's old wood shed, in a good way. Dusty, woody, rustic, but also smooth and refined. Picture a lumberjack going out to a fancy dinner.

Will be a go-to for me for winter.

aliidom86

Well, this has been a let down for me. All I'm getting is pepper and woods. Not aromatic woods, but like actual tree logs. It's not terrible but I expected a lot more. It somehow feels like an incomplete fragrance. Lasts a good 7 hours or so but projection is poor.

guettaby

An absolute masterpiece. But let's get one thing straight: this perfume is not overly woody as some reviews suggest, it has a certain freshness to it that remains (certainly the papyrus and moss). There is no risk that it will displease, especially since the remaining mix of amber, moss and the little woody scent is the winning trio. The opening is not at all synthetic or aggressive. In short, for the price very few are perfumes of this quality.

Mr. Boston

OK, I will start off by saying that Gucci pour. Homme I is one of my favourite fragrances of all time. Naturally, I always felt that the OG would be better than this version, though I do appreciate they were both made by the same perfumer. I have spent embarrassing amounts of money stocking up on bottles of the OG, and I’m lucky to have numerous bottles tucked away. That being said, out of curiosity, I purchased this version and upon first spray, all I could do was laugh. The fragrances are extremely close, and frankly, you would have to have a very highly trained nose to pick up the differences. I have previously owned Parle moi de parfum Papyrus Oud, 71, and it does not come as close as the Bentley. 0 out of 10 for originality. 10/10 for smell.

aisten

What an amazing blind buy! Incense and woods! Can’t wait to show my boyfriend what I just bought for him. He’s a lover of Montale full incense, Anatole Lebreton Grimoire and Gucci Guilty Absolute. I’m sure he will be impressed with this one too.

SpicyWoods

In the opening this smells almost identical to Tom Ford's Bois Marocain. It opens with a very green and smoky woody blast. After a few minutes it starts to settle into a very wearable direction, eventually drying down into a very nice and warm cedar smell. I pick up quite a bit of incense in the dry-down but would say there is a peppery cedar smell dominating it. I personally would not wear it to the office but it's perfect for the winter evenings.

Performance is quite good, but nothing special. I would not suggest blind buying unless you enjoy smoky and 'out-there' scents.

juliano_bamor_

Masterpiece, in the beginning I thought the fixation and silage was very poor, but it seems that this thing has aged very well I have a batch from 2017 and it has improved the performance a lot after a while has a superior performance to my Gucci pour homme .

GenericUN

My GOD this is amazing. A crowd pleaser? No. Something I get a little high off of every time I smell the atomizer? Yes.

Incredibly potent woods; raw cedar and oud take the spotlight for me with with the ginger and pink pepper adding to the spiciness and dryness. Ive been DYING for a woody cedar-heavy fragrance like this. Instantly became one of my favorites in a collection of 70+

The quality of this in light of its price is an absolute joke. Better than niche quality in countless examples. Gonna have to grab a backup before this ever gets reformulated from where its at

If you reminisce of the times you spent in the woods as a kid, this will probably hit.

RobbieX

This is grown on me...a lot!
This is really gorgeous. I get pencil leds, spices, sweetness, character and longevity.
A fabulous juice and now in my top 6 in my profile.

kentabatinga

Two spritz, one in each arm, and I got wafts out off my skin all day long (12 plus hours). Unfortunately is not one of my favorites from my collection, but definitely is very similar to Comme des Garcons 2 and Carbone by Pierre Balmain,

JustAngela

This is the fragrance that makes my mouth water every single time my husband wears it. I hope Bentley never changes a single thing about this magnificent masterpiece. Many thanks to Michel Almairac for creating this beautiful gift to mankind.

APULIAN

Bentley for men Absolute deserves the good reputation in the fragcom. It's not so easy to find a fragrance with this personality for a cheap price. The blend is a mix of pepper, ginger, amber, sandalwood and incense. Dark, resinous and smokey, it's very masculine and you need the right confidence to wear it. The note i prefer more here is the incense: not too heavy and strong, it reminds some majestic vampyres u can see in movies or tv series. The performance is average, so just ok in this category. Bentley for men Absolute fits good with a leather jacket as well as with suit and tie. For people over 28, for cold seasons. It's not the most mass-,appealing scent, so a blind buy can be a risk. Similar parfumes are dsquared potion (for the amber-resinous taste) and encre noir Extreme (for the mysterious smokey vibe), never tried gucci ph so far. Not a common scent!
Performance discreta.

Bentley For Men Absolute, this is tough one. I read the great reviews online and got so intrigued I went and bought it. Not quite what i expected. The opening is very very harsh and extremely spicy to a point of being unpleasant. It smells like a spice shop. I thought wow this juice is terrible. Now I'm a great fan of oud fragrances from Tom fords Oudwood, YSL M7, Boss bottles oud, Lattafa Oud for glory and Amani Absolute oud. This fragrance while it contains oud, its very subtle and comes out only in the dry down. The incense also projects in the dry down however it is captured beautifully. It reminds me of the incense used in Roman Catholic Churches. The fragrance contains the OG DNA of Bentley for men and Bentley intense. If you have those fragrances, you can compare it those but with added spices.

The projection is very poor, silage is very poor, performance is terrible despite all the reviews on how long this lasts. At best you get 30min projection and 2hrs life span on both skin and clothes. After that the is no trail of it at all. I even asked my wife and kids to tell me if they can smell anything and it was gone with the wind.

Occasions for this fragrance is formal spaces and when you want to make a bold statement. Age group 30+.

Bentley For Men Absolute is not blind buy worthy. Try it first because it is really something else. In my opinion its a love or hate fragrance.

Hectuhhhhh

When comparing to GPH1, this one is dryer in the opening likely due to the papyrus. In the Gucci, the ginger is alot more prominent in the opening. Besides that they’re basically the same. I actually get more projection from the Bentley. 100% this is a worthy replacement for GPH1, no need to shell out the money on the Gucci, just get this one

BGBG

This one is very woody and harsh. I am surprised there is no cumin in it because it has this sweat body odor in the dry down. To me it is similar to Encre Noire (OG version), but even more gothic.

PSN1

Got this today. The opening is a bit harsh, I think, but give it 20 minutes and it is up there with PO71. I own both, they are very close.

Sam96438

Smells delightful. I mainly get cedar, oud and smoky pepper from this with a syrupy, almost fudge or caramel-like sweetness that's pretty dominant on the initial spray but settles down rather quickly to be a supporting facet. The cedar in here is reminiscent of walking into a DIY store and smelling semi-fresh timber and a big player.

I was kind of disappointed in the performance at first but came back to my sweater after 2 days and it was still going fairly strong still. It's fairly linear I feel but this plays in it's favour as if you like the first hours of performance, it'll do the job for hours on end, even if the projection has died down somewhat. It seems to come alive more so in the cold.

I own Joop Homme absolute and I find some similarities between the two, although that one goes in a waaay sweeter, less woody direction. Strange how they're both called Absolute and feature rather similar presentation....

Anyway, as for rating I'd give this a strong 9/10 as this is top quality and can be had for a steal at around £30. For that price, it blows most other competing fragrances out of the water.

superdrybri

Just got this today, sprayed it on my hand, and nothing I smell absolute nothing :(
so I'm renaming it Bentley For Men Absolute Nothing

vetiverica

Papyrus Oud is crisp and papery with a bold backing. This is muted in comparison. It's a shame. I recommend you bite the bullet on PO71 if you love the scent profile.

gandrasta

GPH 1 twins from the same nose. Dark, peppery with good punch of shredded wood in the background. Less potent than its older brother, but still a good alternative for a long lost gem GPH 1

vbs221

Have tested this and Comme Des Garcons 2 Man. I wouldn’t say they’re similar. They’re both woody and resinous, but the Bentley is significantly darker and woodier, whereas 2 Man has aldehydes that lasts even through the drydown.

I prefer Encre Noire A L’Extreme over this or 2 Man. This is darker and more oudy than I’d usually prefer, and the aldehydes in 2 Man gives it dustyness that I’m not the biggest fan of. A L’Extreme, on the other hand, has fantastic vetiver and incense. But the Bentley is still pretty great for what it is.

salie

how some people dare to rate this heavy dark mysterious fragrance as long lasting!!!?
it literally vanishes in 30 minutes on skin.
I tried it on 4 of my colleagues and the result was same

btd069

Earthy Dry Woods, Leather, Oud, Balsamic Notes & Pencil Shavings. To my nose it smells like it has some Cashmeran in it. Also, I'm thinking because its the way the notes are blended together, I'm getting something that smells like a light Iris accord. This is what I imagine a lumberjack would smell like. This is not for everyone. Those who like sweeter and blue fragrances will not like this. I think it's pretty unique for this current time in fragrances. It's a really good bargain for the price. This is one of those fragrances that I have to be in the mood for so I don't reach for this all that often but it does smell nice.

Longevity is just barely slightly above average on my skin. Sillage & Projection are good for the first hour or so, then it starts to settle and get closer to the skin. Really good composition for a cheapie.

BigJarOfHoney

A divine fragrance.
It is very reminiscent of Gucci pour homme.

Muscular and strong.
Unburdening but present.
Peppery and woody.
Part of the perfume reminds me of a pencil sharpener, that's when pencils are sharpened, and those pencil shavings, wood and graphite.
That part is very attractive and makes you literally sniff that perfume all the time.
An exceptional creation, no wonder the creator is Michel Almairac.
He is behind Louis Rochas, Joop Homme, Shiseido Zen, Burberry woman, Zino Davidoff, Sculpture Homme, Dior Fahreinheit, Gucci rush, Gucci pour Homme ... etc.
Just Amzaing.

Otherwise, the bottle is also very interesting. I like it very much.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 8/10 Perfume performance - Its performance is great, it lasts over 10 hours on my skin... exceptional praise for the quality of the ingredients.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 9/10 Perfume rating - a really beautiful masculine perfume. Strong and extremely unique. Very ironed and polished, but again with an awkward character. I can imagine bodyguards wearing this perfume. Strong and dark, but still there to protect you.

Deelecto

If you think you might be interested in a niche-style spicy, woody, leathery kind of fragrance, and you can find this for a good price, grab it.

Lots has been said and I can’t add much more, other than to report - if you have Guerlain Homme, I suggest spraying this on first … let it dry a little (till that sweaty papyrus note settles) then spray Homme over top. Maybe it’s just me but I find the combo unbelievably, exponentially, anomalously good. In fact this amps up a lot of scents that benefit from a bit more woods n’ spice and is worth having even just to layer.

Thatbwoy

I got a sample of this today

I don't know if I get everything that everyone else is reporting; I just smell pencils. I just smell a cheaper version of Lalique White.

Not for me. 3/10.

Stanfragm@n84

Joop Homme Absolute.....one has pink pepper....other has black pepper.......almost identical

Lerxst74

To my nose i get that smokey campfire and pencil shavings scent and i love it. Looking forward to fall and wintertime to wear it.

12nmilnes

Strong, dark, spicy, leather, woody and smokey. Yet somehow remains fresh spicy because of the patchouli. Slight powdery undertone in the drydown. Niche quality. Signature scent worthy. 8.5/10

Stanfragm@n84

Peppery, pepper ,more pepper and just .....a little bit more pepper. 🌶🌶🌶🌶

Wild Water

This is what I had hoped and expected Bentley Intense would be based on all the hype and hysteria. With all respect to Mme. Lorson, the mistress of her craft that she is, this is the best of the "for Men" line.

It opens with a dark and dank leather accord. That new chair or jacket kind of leather. Tom Ford and Memo would get excited at this kind of leather. You know what I'm talking about. Then the woods come out. Cedarwood, agarwood, sandalwood. Woods on fire. The burning of incense in a church or temple. Reflective, relaxed, and reposed. Step outside. Take a tin of cigars or pipe tobacco from your leather jacket. Opened up into the air. Cedar and smoke. Like a humidor or a pipe by the hearth. Inhale.

This is class in a bottle. Perfectly dry, with a hint of sweetness. Not too sweet or too boozy or too spicy like Intense. It's just right. I can't help but love this.

QuentinsBeach

My experience is nothing like most of the other reviews. There's a ripened fruit thing happening I don't see anyone mention. Yes a dark oud, one that I don't mind (not a medicinal floor cleaner oud), yes wood pencil shavings and spices, but what is that ripened fruit note that you don't smell in 99% of other frags? Like you forgot to remove a bag of bananacherry skins from your car that you left in the summer heat for a week. Bananacherry is a frankensteinfruit you spliced together in the lab by the way. So then Almairac takes your bag of old bananacherry skins and extracts some oil and makes it somehow fresh but still ripefruitsweet. Anyway whatever that slightly sweet aspect is I like it a lot anyway. I actually prefer this to Bentley Extreme. Extreme is nice, boozy, warm, ambery, these are completely different from each other. Dry wood pencil shavings, dirty oud, and ripened "frankenfruit". Quite lovely to me but perhaps somewhat particular?

Onionmk

After a success story with Bentley for Men Intense, I was tempted by another cheap win in Bentley For Men Absolute. I tried Papyrus Oud as well as CDG 2 before I bought it so I could get an idea of what it would smell like. I also had a sample of Le Labo Vetiver 46 but I don't think they can be compared. I liked both Papyrus Oud and CDG 2 and could perceive subtle differences between them so I figured either way, a budget-friendly alternative would be great. Sadly, this is just a tad less complex than those two fragrances and the cedar overshadows the green, spicy incense notes. The quality isn't bad for the price, it's just not as good as the fragrances it's compared to. I would be happy with it if the longevity was good but it's nowhere near say Bentley For Men Intense. It's a skin scent from the moment you apply it and it doesn't matter how many times you spray it performs all the same. Overall 6/10.

Abdulrehman Maqsood

My dumb and awestruck review of this masterpiece:
Delicious, cola-fizzy, masculine, woody, amber-y, a little spicy and nosegasmic!

Trueblood84

Bentley Absolute is a stunner of a scent, very dry, woodsy, and spicy. It smells very close to the discontinued Gucci pour homme. However, my experience with this particular Bentley has been love/hate. My issue with Bentley is only its longevity, while I hear others say its longevity is eternal, my skin eats up Bentley Absolute in under and hour. So what otherwise would be a perfect 10 fragrance goes down to an 8. Still a great scent I just have to carry a decant or seriously overspray ( which is not pleasant with this frag... too spicy...) to be able to make it through a day.

MarkoPeeko

This stuff is immense.

I get a prominent cumin smell to begin that settles down after 10 minutes or so. This might be the pepper and ginger kicking off.

The dry down is where the magic begins. Earthy, piney, woody. It’s lush.

It’s prominent but not overbearing. Almairac knows how to blend a scent. Especially the woods in this. It’s like walking through an antiques shop with a polished wooden floor and various pieces of finely-designed furniture on display.

Projection is average. 5 sprays around the neck and chest will do. Longevity is around 6-7 hours on my skin.

Not offensive. Office safe. Probably something you’d want to wear for a more formal occasion.

My 3rd from Bentley. Up there with BMI. Fantastic drop.

Alireza.D2

Missing mighty Gucci pour homme?
Don’t worry B.A fills the gap with above 90% similarities from top way down to bottom notes.
Alongside with all bright notes ,a faint pencil shaving is sensed due to presence of papyrus mixed with pepper ,cedar and sandalwood.
Scent;4.75/5
Longevity;4.25/5
Projection:4/5
Age:+25
Occassion:formal-casual
Season:autumn and winter nights.

The Wolf

This is the ultimate cheap fragrance with niche DNA and I'll explain why.
Michel Almariac (the perfumer) son (who is currently running his father's perfume business) has said this is the EXACT same formula as the masterpiece Gucci PH1. So any difference in the original and this are due to evaporation (vintage bottle) or placebo effect.

I have also tried Bond Number 9 Dubai Silver which was also made by Almariac, and it's the same juice as Bentley Absolute for 570 retail!😄
He most recently released this DNA again through his own brand Parle Moi,.and it is this same formula with less incense and more oud and musk! ( he says it in an interview).

This is a 30 dollar fragrance that is the same juice as niche perfums I just listed. Ive tried them all and this option is really really close to the niche options. Unbelievable value.

This DNA is a masterpiece IMO. It doesn't have much projection (none of them do) and moderate longevity.

Scent 10/10
Performance 3/10

hokieguy95

I have never tried Gucci Pour homme so I cannot compare. This scent is dark, dank, woody and spicy. Yes, it smells a lot like the shavings of a pencil but in the dry down it gets slightly sweeter and warmer as time goes on. The opening is woody with a hint of spicy pepper. The first time I wore this I was not sure I would like it. The magic happens in the dry down where it gets more complex. My nose is not as refined as some, but I do believe the oud becomes more prominent after about 30 minutes. It is definitely an acquired taste for modern noses, and it is the polar opposite to the sweet and gourmand scents many male fragrance designers are going for today. I would consider this a very masculine scent. And even reminiscent of goth style. This will be something that I wear with much thought and for occasions that call for subtlety and seriousness. Not a crowd pleaser but a safe and work friendly scent and at a great price point for this quality.
Scent: 8/10;
Performance 8/10
Price: 8/10

bogdanp

The opening is really good: very dry and woody, I get the pencil shavings comparison. But 30 minutes later, the oud starts kicking in - the same oud that I smell in Lalique Hommage à l'homme. For me, it's a deal breaker, unfortunately.

rafaelpdelima

Unique and mysterious.
It is refined and slightly eccentric (in a good way).
Intense - woody, smoky, spicy, boozy.

Not the average "crowd pleasing scent".

It is a balanced scent and has good quality (doesn't smell synthetic/harsh for me - although it is probably made mostly of aroma chemicals and not many naturals).

More of a night time scent for mid season (spring and specially fall).

The opening can be a little "medicinal". But where this scent shines is the dry down, it is gorgeously unique!

For my taste:
Opening - 7.5/10
Dry Down - 9/10

It has a great value for the price you pay at discounters.
I really like it. I'll probably be wearing this to concerts and art events.

jaxxin

Blind bought this from Amazon for $22 for 3.4oz EDP! Because I enjoy other Michel Almairac offerings. Will update soon.

Update: First sprays of this, wow it’s disorienting. Is a person supposed to smell like this? I’ve been sampling 50+ fragrances the last few months and absolutely nothing like this.

It smells so strongly of pungent cedar, like literally walking into a sauna room made with fresh cedar planks. Firing up the little hot coal grill to make steam. So so cedar woody and dry. It’s very intriguing and I don’t not like it but it almost seems too austere for a person to wear. Maybe it will develop a bit over the next few weeks.

I’m surprised if this is what the legendary Gucci pour home smelled like. I loved Gucci envy back in the day but would never have wanted to smell like a pungent cedar sauna in my 20s. Still not sure if my mid 40s body is supposed to smell like this. I’ll keep checking it out.

(Batch is May 2021, one year old)

Rob321x

Is it like gucci pour homme I? The answer is yes. First I will start with this fragrance was made by the same perfumer who made GPH1. This shares all similar notes as well aside from oud. But this definitely is the best thing to buy if you were looking for the gucci scent, and not break the bank!

Ali-smellsnice

This is fantastic and a no brainer from discounters, do yourself a favor and pick it up for fall and winter, the ladies will appreciate it!

obsidianknighthawk

If you like the smell of pencils you will like this.

Blizznakov

Once again beautiful fragrance but weak performance. This is the cheap oud scent that i like. It's few classes above lattafa fragrances, but still no projection or even longevity. The bottle like all bentleys is good. The scent is complex and changes but after an hour or so you can mostly feel the oud and olibanum.

The drydown of this made me turn this frag from a Like to a Love: unbelievable beautiful aroma for such a low price tag. The opening stages remind me of the obvious frags from this "category": Encre Noire A L'extreme and Bentley Intense. They don't necessarily smell that similar but definetly belong on the same ballpark. I love and own both of those, and although Encre Noire is the superior one for me between those, Absolute is taking Intense's spot for me.
Again, the drydown of Absolute is what hooked me in: It gives a "powdery incense" feel that is very smooth and satisfying.

This is not meant to be a beast mode frag, and it sits close to the skin and i do think this was made like that on purpose by the perfumer (Almairac is a genius in my book): You don't want a scent like this to be punching people on their noses, cause it is a strong and very dry DNA afterall. The longevity though, this lasted 15 hours on my arms, whole night and morning the next day.

You gotta enjoy woody, smokey and dark fragrances to truly see the value of this one. If that's the case, grab this. It's cheap and you won't be disappointed.

SIRRYANROYCE

BFM Absolute is dark, rich, and dense. The scent features a prominent blend of woods + amber + oud. This note combination creates a relaxing incense aroma. I agree with other reviewers on the similar vibe to Dark Rebel Rider by John Varvatos.

AC Smells Good on YouTube gave a spot-on review describing Absolute as one of inward enjoyment. I agree, the scent is ideal for self-reflection and contemplation, and is not what I would wear for social or fun occasions. As such, it’s a terrible choice for summer, or
any warm/cheery weather, but is an excellent choice for fall, winter, and crummy spring days. It is a great dreary-day scent for overcast, cold, rainy days when it’s miserable out.

Performance is average, which is fine for a sub-$40 bottle. Plus, it smells of higher quality than its price. I prefer BFM Absolute over BFM Intense, which is a favorite of mine for going out in cold winter nights thanks to its boozy profile. But I appreciate Absolute more as it offers more for scent examination.

Score: 8 out of 10

Would I purchase a replacement bottle? Yes, this is a great “bang for your buck” fragrance. It’s essentially a $40 bottle that smells like an $80 bottle.

Lefeuvre76

This smells like my classroom in 1980 and i'm instantly 5 again. Freshly sharpened pencils, a slight funk and plasticine. Any scent than can transport you back into the past instantly like that is well worth the entrance fee. I cannot stop smelling it. What a fragrance for the money.

Wesley Lee

Very peppery smell all the way, with Boozyness. The scent is also a bit like pencil shavings. Smells professional and masculine, fits suit well.

Pepper Bomb 💣

Dry down is beautiful although doesn’t perform or project good sadly.

marty575

I think this one is my favorite bentley scent. It's REALLY similar to Givenchy Gentlemen Boisee. It's a nice alternative at 1/4 the price.
I love the woody spicy scents, this one does not disappoint. It's smooth and easy to wear, The Amber and cedar is pretty prominent to me.
If you like the Givenchy Gentlemen line, you'll probably like this one.
it gets a 8 out of 10 for me.

Pompss

It might be a reformulation given the rating and the comments but apart from that woody dna it has in comon with Bentley for men Intense it has ash and body odor.

This really reminds me of some people I’ve known who smoked and smelled like BO most of the time.
It’s not repulsive It just doesn’t smell pleasant.

Sad about this purchase, For the moment it’s just taking up space in my closet.

Beeritone

Creamy amber vibes on top of straight up pencil shavings. It really does remind me of sharpening those cheap no. 2 pencils while taking a test in grade school - the metal trash can under the sharpener that was, in hindsight, a massive fire hazard. This is pretty versatile in my opinion, but probably lends itself better to fall or winter as those are when people swing to woody fragrances. I wear it year-round because I don't need your rules.

TheComedian

I blind bought Bentley Intense after seeing everybody rave about it, then found this while exploring the brand's other offerings and bought it as well. I like Absolute a lot better -- Intense, while indeed very good, is a bit sweet for my liking. Absolute, on the other hand, smells like a masterpiece to me.

I can see the pencil shavings/sawdust vibe people talk about, although that's not the description that first sprung to my mind. There is definitely a nice dry, woody aroma to this, though. Call it pencil shavings if you want, but I find it intoxicating. I don't really get anything animalic or "body odorous" about this.

Absolute smells gentlemanly without seeming dated or off-limits to younger guys. Performance and longevity are excellent on my skin as well. I don't want to fumigate the room I'm in but I like smelling wafts of my fragrance thought the day. Absolute hits that balance nicely, although I think this is very subjective to each person's skin chemistry so YMMV.

I have never smelled Gucci Pour Homme but if Bentley Absolute is the second coming of that, then I understand why people are miffed that Pour Homme was discontinued -- but kudos to Bentley for preserving the DNA. This formula will be a regular on my shelf for as long as I can buy it.

Lefeuvre76

Bought both the Absolute and Intense at the same time and am really enjoying layering them together. Give it a go.

Cologne Cathedral

Woody cedar with a bit of olibanum (similar to the jubilation olibanum).
Alongside considerable putrid synthetic smoke.
The smoke and cedar form a repulsive and headache inducing burning smell, possible worse than 'smoke' as it is almost like a synthetic rubber/plastic type of smell. This also smells a bit like nuts.

I would only recommend if you are a fan of all of the following:
- Strong weird synthetic burning / smoky type scents. e.g. Amouage interlude man // Tom Ford F*cking Fabulous.
- Strong cedar scents e.g. Creed royal oud
- Strong nut scents e.g Nuit d'issei Issey Miyake 2014.

Chevalier d'Artagnan

jacked 24/7

I truly love this smell. I don’t think it’s really too dark. And does smell like pencil shavings. BUT I’m not sure if it’s cause it is easy to go nose blind to this or what, I can’t smell it after a couple hours and that bothers me to no end because I love it. I just hope it’s more of a anosmic (correct term?) than it being weak.

MY37

Ugggh ! nastier than a French tarts panty end of shift. Something really skanky/animalic in a off putting way about it. Also reminiscent of JV Dark Rebel Rider leather accord in case that is your thing.

Mina Abdo

Super smoky woody fragrance.
Same as i said about the intensely one, if juice was bottled in 150$ niche fragrance, people would think it is expensive niche one.

Digam

Great smelling scent I get the body odor that some speak of but the overall smell is just beautiful however sillage and projecting is kind of weak can't speak about longevity coz I just got my bottle and I have just sprayed it so I need some time with it to further make up my mind but again the first impression is wow

Update: longevity is very good over 7 hours and I can still smell it on myself but doesn't project much, beautiful scent indeed

Marxwick

It is a dark smokey woody scent predominant by Olibanum, Papyrus, and Cedar.
Longevity is decent, but projection and sillage are closer to the skin.
Lalique creates a quality scent for affordable prices.
The bottle has a premium feel.

Atlantiswasreal

I rarely buy designer/cheapies any longer, but I was intrigued by some YT and fragrantica reviews, so I took a gamble and bought this for about 20 bucks on fragrancebuy. Unfortunately, I must have a bad bottle because this smells like body odor on both test strips and on my skin. It's sort of the same vibe you may get from a fragrance with a prominent cumin note. The dry down took a few hours to come, but once it did, it smells basically like something in the encre noir line and it is very faint. You're probably better off buying any of the three encre noirs if you want a similar effect with better performance and quality.

***** I do like this fragrance, it does have a wood-insense smell that stays close to my skin. I like beast mode fragrances, this is subtle but nice. It would be more of an everyday fragrance that's safe to wear and not offensive at all. I think you would need to be very close to another person for them to smell it. I'm selfish when it comes to fragrances, I want to smell it and I like good projection. If you could call it a con projection or sillage is weak for Bentley For Men Absolute. I prefer Bentley For Men Intense that does have good sillage-projection but it is a totally different animal. I hope this helps someone. Thanks for reading it.

For $25 shipped, 100ml new bottle, this stuff is great. It might be a regular every day work fragrance for me because of the price, and I am a sucker for cedar, oud, and sandalwood. Sharp at fist, but mellows into just a nice very masculine, woody, spicy fragrance.

This is smelling like a man, not trying to smell sweet or fresh. Huge fan, will buy again definitely. Longevity isn't great, but some lotion, oil on your skin helps, and getting on your clothes helps keep it longer.

I have tons of warmer weather fragrances and am slowly increasing my winter ones, moved to a state with real winter, and this is definitely a great buy for a man with confidence. One spray of spice bomb, and the others with this might be really nice layering with the vanilla, but either way, this one is gonna be a regular for me for winter.

Nuhgwin

Can indeed confirm that this smells like Gucci Pour Homme I.
Side by side comparison of the two with my last few sprays of Gucci PH I, the Gucci is more refined.
Bentley is heavy on the woody incense. Gucci in my opinion would be more pleasant to wear.
I have Bentley on my wrist today, hoping to gauge it better.
Hope this helps anyone who misses Gucci PH I.

Edit: Drydown is really nice. The drydown is what really smells like Gucci PH I.

Vince1964

A very beautiful, enigmatic fragrence...well done Master Parfumer! Very powdery, strong rich leather, tobacco and rum, rendering a deep dark oriental spice type ambiance that is expensive to the nose. A very expensive smelling fragrance that does the name and character of Bentley a great justice. Buying a backup bottle of this EDP would be a normal transaction.

The Fragrance Connoisseur

This may smell like Gucci Pour Homme 2003 but the performance is diabolical one of the worst performing fragrances I've ever smelt, its gone within 45 minutes. this might of been since the reformulation. Its not even worth the cheap price that's asked, avoid this fragrance and don't allow companies to water them down into nothing.

hadris

I bought today on the basis of a review, amazing, I was glad that people did not disappoint, I went back 12 years with Gucci PH1...

papapara

My opinion changed drastically. At first I hated it. When I smelled it on a tester or from the bottle I couldn't understand how it got such a great reviews. Other people hated it too, calling it a 'smell of an old medicine'. Then I put it on my neck and sweater and it was just great! One of the best fragrances I smelled for sure. People around me still hate it though.

chaikohmin

To me, this smells like bright woods. It has a sharp tinge in it, probably the olibanum. Did not like it at first but after giving it a few tries, I can appreciate its creation. I agree smells like cedar wood. It is very clean and nice to wear in cool weather.

Bbjr

To start out, I absolutely love Gucci PH1. I avoided buying this one until I heard Benjamin Almairac say that this is the exact same formula as Gucci PH1. So I figured if he said it, it must be true and I watched the interview so this is not fodder. So I bought this and, lo and behold, I detect no discernible difference between the two. This is absolutely wonderful and there’s no longer any need to pay $500 to the eBay swills to refill my gucci ph1.

dlopeztt

I get cedar wood and oud with the sandalwood wrapping around and smoothen it out.
Not bad.
A lot more smoother than Encre Noir A l’extreme.

Tigerhoods1

the smell is OK although I get a little b.o. reference this is so faint unless you spray alot of sprays the performance is just the worst. batch hoe21. I definitely do not recommend. waste of money for sure.

jturner333

For some odd reason my previous review was deleted and is nowhere to be found.
So I will post again because this fragrance is not good. Smells like straight-up B.O! I had my girlfriend smell it and she hated it as well and thought it smelled like nasty body odor. Not sure if I got a bad bottle or what since everyone else on here for SOME ODD REASON seems to love smelly like a nasty sweaty gym on a hot summer day in the middle of a dense humid forest. I feel like having smelled and owned over 100 fragrances has given me some knowledge on what is good and what is not. And this can be polarizing (at least from what I can tell). So DO NOT BLIND BUY like I did!

robertandsheilaburke

this is a very complex fragrance with some nice combinations of scents. It is masculine and smells like a man coming back to his cabin after spending all day in the woods. What a wonderful winter fragrance. Cant beat the price! going next to some of my favs.

Jean De Luz

Smells like a lumberjack chopping Agarwood, straightforward maculinity.

Some are hating on the cedar note. I'm here losing mind over the same note. :)

SimplDude

I would say this is one of the most interesting fragrance in my collection. To my nose, it’s not a mass appealing scent. It’s very masculine, dry, woody and dark. I agree with other reviewers that this is a linear scent. It’s best for cold weather and select occasions but to me, definitely not a date night scent. It’s different but I would put this in a category in my collection which includes Gucci Guilty Absolute, Commodity Vetiver and Philip Pleine. It’s unique and intriguing to my nose, that’s why I like it 😉👍

“Let's spread the scents of peace and kindness. The two most beautiful fragrance in the world that will cost you nothing and will get you a totally different kind of compliments” 🙏

Mainefresh

I blind bought this one. Was not expecting it to be so powdery. I get the wood opening but after that it stay close to my skin as a woody but fresh powder.

Dr Harder

Taking price into consideration this is a solid fragrance with moderate projection and great longevity. The biggest Issue for me is that all other ingredients are suffocated by strong cedar and oudy notes. You get peppery opening, little bit of herbal elements and it goes directly to cedar+oud combo and it stays like that for 8-9 hours. That my only regret about this fragrance, its just too linear for my taste. However this is by today standards unusual scent, so far away from whats currently popular on tha market and for that reason it gets thumbs up from me.

moha92

This is an astonishing cologne.
Very rich, dry, woody and resinous. Quite strong, assertive, and manly. Fills up any room you walk into.

On my skin it projects very loudly. Impressive longevity as well 12hrs+ easily, no need to decant.

My best buy this year, no doubt.

I was very surprised by this fragrance. I was prepared for the dry woods (pencil shavings), but not for it to smell, to my nose at least, so much like body odour during the opening. It's definitely masculine in its architecture. This is a sweating lumberjack at breaktime, enjoying a root beer or something slightly sweet in the background. By the time we're in the drydown we're the pope of iso-e super town, it's really prominent in a good way. Some incense vibes under the wood. I quite like it despite the opening being pretty confusing. Lasts a good 6-8h but is a skin scent after about 4h so if you want to project, respraying will be required. Even oversprayed this isn't going to fill a room. Manly, mature, dark, pretty good.

Ps: Some people say if you have this, Encre Noire is redundant. I do not find this to be the case for me. Encre Noire is much more natural smelling, even more restrained and refined.

Smackk

Oooof! I dont know about this one...Just blind bought this, sprayed on the cardboard part of the box it came in, this is something danky and smoky. I imagine this would be worn at church, for a funeral, or someone who works for funeral parlor, a mortician, undertaker, hearst driver...This shit is going to be hard for me to pull off...but I'm going to do it!

Tried it on skin. First I'll say that I'm a pretty clean guy, I shower twice a day, sometimes three times a day depending if I train twice that day. So on skin I almost got a slight body odor smell, not really bad, just slight where it smells like your own slightly sweaty armpit odor that's tolerable. Is that the oud? I have other oud fragrances that dont do this, ie Versace Oud Noir, Boss Bottled Oud/Saffron/Aromatic, Layton Exclusif...

This is the first fragrance I've bought and had a doubt if I could pull this off. Challenge accepted!

Peter The Fragrance Lover

Bentley For Men Absolute is a linear and synthetic low-key, restrained, quiet, dark, woody scent with a slightly bitter and sour cedarwood note, and something in it that reminds me of leather seats in a brand new luxury car - such as a Bentley. Bentley For Men Aboslute smells like the interior of a brand new luxury car. That's what I'm associating the olfactory impression with.

A very safe and comforting scent. Most likely you won't offend anyone with this scent—at least I have difficulty imagining you would—but you will most likely not garner any compliments either or any complimentary questions such as "That's nice. What are you wearing?".

An everyday uninspiring, safe office workhorse scent, ideal for cold and crisp weather, day and night, (but leans more night time than day time), in autumn and winter, but definitely not a night out scent or formal occasion scent.

In the drydown, it becomes a dull, boring, slightly sweet, woody, and soapy scent that smells slightly like a soft drink that has spilled out on a newly washed or cleaned luxury car leather seat.

Sillage and projection - quite limited. Probably won't exceed beyond the reach of your arm. Longevity is about 3-6 hours on my skin.

It's a decent and acceptable fragrance for sure, but why should I settle with "decent" and "acceptable" fragrances, when I can purchase masterpieces that are readily available on the market?

Final score: 6/10.

Imagine yourself by a camp fire. Cedar and oud wood burning, you can smell the smoke. Like when you sit by the fire and then enter the house and all you can snell is burned wood. Toss a lot of incese in that fire and this is the smell you get. Smokey incensy burning wood. Smells exactly like that. Incredibly dry and niche type of a smell. Not for everyone nor a compliment getter. Out of all Bentley line, this it the toughest to wear. It does go in that middle eastern direction because it does smell of burning oud wood with incense.

Just got my hand on the fully black bottle. 16 years ago I received Gucci PH as a gift. It was a weird fragrance for someone 18 years old but I loved it.

It is very similar to the fragrance I remember. A bit weaker but still a fantastic for fall, winter and cooler evenings.

Notes of incense, wood, cedar, oud make it a rather mature fragrance, it is not for everyone.

I was expecting a bit more potent juice here, but it seems that medium longevity and sillage was no surprise. Longevity is better than sillage in my opinion.

I am happy to own this, it makes my collection a bit more "complete". This will definitely have a special place in my drawer/frag box.

It is a bit dryer than juicy couture dirty english and slightly less potent than Gucci PH. At least from what I remember. My batch is 2021 with a black cap and bottle.

Overall 9/10 as I am externally grateful to be able to have a Gucci PH substitute. Lovely. Smoke, fireplace, evening, coziness. That's what it is.

gatsby

@sergbkp it has been reformulated in early 2020, it is not the same in terms of sillage and longevity. It also have a weird incense, worst IMO than 2014-2019 editions wich are very, very close to Gucci PH ( having the same "father", Michel Almairac)

Eau de Maude

Love it. Wife doesn’t. Wish it lasted longer.

edneyheleneusa

Very Woody and powerful, resembles me when i go to a place where they make tables or chairs with wood and you have that smell of fresh wood everywhere.

I really like it, 10 out of 10, very powerful and pleasant!

Bentley Absolute really is a pleasure to wear for the wearer and everyone else.
If only longevity were greater this would be perfect.
There is a noticeable resemblance to Gucci Pour Homme - Bentley Absolute is beautiful in its own right and has slightly better performance than its progenitor.
It sure smells like Mr Almairac has revisited a classic and reinvented GPH.
Classy, elegant, and versatile enough for any occasion.
Wish they'd release an extrait.

Fragscenthead

Who voted for Encre Extreme and Premier Luxe Avon??? Oh my God, probably I'm living in another universe. That's an 99% exact copy of Gucci Pour Homme by the same person. Masterpiece as it's predecessor..

WGG

Fantastic stuff but try before you buy. A blast of pine resin, then slightly sweeter, powdery even, the wood still wafting. This is a love for me but might be an acquired taste, very masculine, moderate performance makes it easier to wear. At about £30 for 100ml this is great value. Autumn/winter.
