L’Homme Ideal Cologne by Guerlain is a Woody Aromatic fragrance for men. L’Homme Ideal Cologne was launched in 2015. The nose behind this fragrance is Thierry Wasser. Top notes are Grapefruit, Orange, Bergamot and Pink Pepper; middle notes are Almond and Neroli; base notes are Vetiver and White Musk.

Guerlain introduced its new masculine fragrance L'Homme Ideal in 2014. In May 2015, it will launch its first reinterpretation called L'Homme Ideal Cologne. "The ideal man is a myth. His perfume is a reality."

The composition L'Homme Ideal Cologne combines energy of citruses with charm of fresh almond and masculinity of vetiver and musk. The fragrance is a citrus - woody. It opens with orange, bergamot, pink pepper and grapefruit. Fresh almonds are mixed with neroli in the heart, while the base combines light white musk and strong vetiver.

The bottle retains its original design, this time painted in white. The fragrance is available as 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette.

Reaaally good. I can smell the Imagination DNA here which is basically citruses and neroli with a warm base. This one has an anised with almond vibe, as if Guerlain didn’t figured the almond accord for this fragrance like they did with Platinum Prive. This one has a little better performance than that one but to be honest, Platinum Prive is better smelling. Maybe PP needs to macerate or they’ll release an intense version.

JoeFrag

Wow, I thought Louis Vuitton's Imagination was the best of its kind, but I think this might have dethroned it.

This is like Imagination's distant cousin who everybody talks about but nobody sees at the family gatherings. But as soon as they show up they become the star of the show! This is a really fantastic fragrance by Guerlain - love the use of grapefruit in this. I thought it was going to be a skin scent fragrance due to it being a cologne, but it actually creates a really nice silage around you.

Dang lol. This thing out does a $300 + fragrance. Too bad it's discontinued.

Research

Really interesting fragrance. It is very light and seems like it will disappear quickly. But it creates a beautiful (almost creamy almond citrus) scent bubble that just envelopes you. I've not experienced anything like it but it is a pleasure to wear. So happy I came across this one and pulled the trigger.

nihalakram

I can't believe I planned to give it away..! This just grew with me last 2 years.. Fantastic lovely almond cream..
I wear it only when its a weekend.. Sun is so bright today around 12:00, I take a bath.. wear a crispy white t-shirt. Sprays a few around me.. open the window and taking a Sun bath with my favourite music in the ears..

skippergib

Bring this scent back PLEASE. I don't care how the bottle is going to look like or what name you guys are going to brand it on.

Just bring it back to the market, Guerlain.

PLEASE.

I join what @felipegdcampos said.

Anyone swap or sale?

felipegdcampos

bring it back!!

Xicanscent

I love this one, the grapefruit is delicious and it feels so natural.sadly discontinued.

DaveCave

The citrus in this one is why it’s my favorite. I wish it wasn’t discontinued, but I’m glad I got a bottle when it was available.

sssally

Oh man… this one.

L’Homme Ideal Cologne was gifted to me by my mother back in my early teens and was one of my first ever designer flankers. I have to admit, it seems that her great taste made me form the habit of always owning a perfume or two, and smelling nice.

I will never forget those really hot summer days where I’d be headed to school/hangout and spray this on literally while walking outside (yes, I used to carry it with me in my bag at all times). Could be false memory or maybe my nose was more sensitive when I was younger, but I remember this projecting very loudly for the first few hours. My fling at the time used to always ask me to wear this before we hang out. That said, this was great compliment getter.

Years later, after desperately looking for it, I’ve finally managed to get a new 100ml bottle for $70!! Can’t wait to put this on and have those nostalgic memories hit me.

I tried to convince myself that Reserve Prive is practically the same scent, but it has none of that amazing creaminess and sweet zesty citrus that LHIC does so well.

If you’ve just discovered this and are looking for a perfume that ticks all the boxes (longevity/projection, price value) this is not it. LHIC can truly be appreciated by someone who’s fond of chasing all of those memories which transpire through an olfactive experience.

Why do the greats have to be discontinued? I don't regularly receive compliments but this is one that garners them. Unique summer scent with the sweetness balancing with the freshness. The almond makes this what it is. Masterpiece.

MrMrBrian
LOL
Are you comparing this piece of art to sauvage....
which is brutal and full of ambroxan and which every 2nd person smells?
If you mean in terms of performance, then yes sauvage wins,
but this is not a perfume that is supposed to fight on performance....
it's a fragrance that you puff on after shaving,
you smell awesome, and you won't kill anyone if you use too much of it.
Also when I bought it I did not understand the phenomenon and was disappointed.
Just after my nose fully unlocked and I could smell everything I did appreciate this perfume....
if anyone wants to compare to the same class and league it is ysl L'homme (I don't know about recent versions)
not sauvage because it is an elephant, while we are talking about tigers...
Full stop

I paid a silly price to blind buy this, but luckily it paid off. It's like the EDT but with the awful synthetic scratch removed. The EDT sends me into an immediate coughing fit every time I'm near it, and this redresses the balance.

It is very similar to the dry down of Burlington 1819, it just lacks the dazzling expensive opening of the Roja Dove, which, given that that lasts all of three minutes and that the bottle costs 10 times more, who cares!

This is a beautiful creamy almond and vetiver combo, soft and delicate but with presence, like only Guerlain (and possibly JC Ellena) can do.

My favourite vetiver, my favorite citrus and, more specifically, my favourite grapefruit scent, hands down.

Dt_vino

This smells like how you would expect. Imagine Dior Homme Cologne or LV Imagination mixed with the original Lhomme Ideal almond vibe. It’s very nice. High quality. Performance is actually quite good for what it is.

heysmell

good sophisticated cologne.
even if you spray a lot you won't overdo it, because it is good quality.
when it dries it doesn't leave a stench, it just disappears.
do not even try to compare it with the new l'homme , or perfume inspirations
the king is only one

KraftAndPower

There's something with my nose, I highly dislike most summer perfumes, they smell like synthetic, thrown together in a hurry, mess.
THAT BEING SAID, this is a beautifully crafted and compositioned fragrance where my wrist feels magnetic. I can't stop smelling it. Definitely recommend it but I think it may be discontinued in europe.

Child Chemist

Soft, slightly powdery, grapefruit rind. Very tame almond and floral notes. More qualitative ingredients than Channel's Allure Homme Edition Blanche. For the sensitive gentleman.

Anabol2336

This one was easily the best smelling flanker and arguably even better than the original. I highly regret not purchasing a backup bottle. Also performs exceptionally well for a fresh fragrance unlike the Sport and Cool flankers which are pathetic. They always get rid of the best flanker in every line it seems.

energichen

This fragrance is like dumb reach or work fragrance, smells nice, creamy, inoffensive. Doesn't last long maybe 6 hours with no projection, it is skin scent.

SilhouettesandSillage

One of two fragrances that I own a back up bottle for, the other is a discontinued Fendi. This has quickly become my favorite scent for the warmer seasons. You could probably wear this year round, but there's better options for the winter if I'm being completely honest. This shines all the way though, from that subtle grapefruit and almond opening, to the clean, vetiver and musk drydown. The almond/neroli peek through for the life of the scent and that almond/amaretto accord is my favorite for the summer. I also have Ideal Sport, and they do smell a little similar due to the almond, but there is more going on there. If you can find a bottle , buy one. You won't regret it.

the_Scentsei

I will edit this if I ever can find it...but... synthetic "note"? From Guerlain?!? What is this heresy!!?
💚🐿️💯

wstark93

Great fragrance, it's very masculine and good for warm to cool weather daytime use. Guerlain never disappoints for me. It's a very unique almond smell that works very well for a business casual scenario, like lunch at the kind of restaurant you wear a polo shirt to. Not fancy enough for a suit, but too upscale for the gym. Overall, 8/10.

Vlad Gorneanu

Got this blindly because it's almost nowhere to be found to test. I imagined it by it's relationship with it's brothers in the L'Homme Ideal line and surprisingly I was right. It has that almond infused in beautiful citruses up top and a pinch of vetiver and musk. It is so beautifully blended like all Guerlains are. By chance I managed so snatch a full 100ml unopened bottle for around $90 and I don't regret any penny. It's an elegant summer fragrance. I can be worn also during the day but not for any kind of scenario. I will cherish my bottle as long as I can as I don't see the Platine Prive replacing it soon due to it's scarcely nature also. If you can find a bottle, get it. It will surprise you in the best way possible. Merci monsieur Wasser !
P.S. It doesn't have great longevity but it does give me around 4-5h on sweaty skin in 100 degrees (38C) sunny wet weather. I'm content with that.

Cherryade

Such a beautiful fragrance & such a shame it was discontinued. It is so light, fresh & clean, with a lovely creamyness....certainly one of my most favourite warmer weather scents but then it's so good really who cares what season, time of day it is! Like virtually all scents of this style performance & silage is not amazing but who cares it's that nice.

AlisonD

This is a stunning mens fragrance.
In my opinion it is very classy.
One of ther niceset mens fragrances I have ever been lucky enought to find by chance.

Jernê Knowles

I never imagined that I could find a fragrance that could represent so well the profile of the fragrances I was looking for for the hottest and most stuffy days, and also that I could have a more accurate profile with the region where I live, which is ventilated, humid and sometimes hot at certain times of the year. L'Homme Ideal Cologne by Guerlain made me swallow my pride and give chances to a divine joker perfume, which goes well even with fine sport if you doubt it!

Its opening is a citric mix of voluptuous burning, which emanates an immediate refreshment in those who use it and in the people around it! Yes, it projects its "clean" strength very far and does well among the rest of the genre. I love the hint of Orange on the way to maturity along with a chilled Lemon juice and subtle touches of some fresh leaves/herbs.

Its heart reveals itself as a stay in front of the vigor of an environment that springs from the peace and quiet of the flooded forests. I am transported to the divine Ilha do Combú and there Chef Thiago Castanho cooks me a baby in Neroli leaf, accompanied with a farofa of Brazil nuts and hand-broken nuts, and another Caipirinha of Pitú added to mint leaves. ; in the meantime I feel a lot of wind in my face.

Finally, I'm sitting on the shores of Baia do Guamá, watching the alligators swimming, smelling the forest and its amalgamation of odors that emanate from the rhizomes of its roots soaked by the bitumen of the mangrove, where even the Vetiver, sighs half suffocated by the constant volume of water at its roots. Everything here works, it's right and nothing needs to be changed, added. I am so happy to have known him through the recommendation of a dear friend, who shares the same passion for fragrances as I do.

Koummya

Gorgeous.

The first bottle I actually bought at the start of my journey, around 2 years ago. I still have around 25ml left, from a 50ml bottle. When I first got it, I was unsure, a new nose. Now, I can really appreciate it for what it is. A grapefruit rind adored marzipan pastry, bought from some independent patisserie in the Mediterranean and eaten in the sunlight by the coast. I’m grateful that it was 95% resurrected with the Platine Privé (2023) release, though that imposing black casing doesn’t work nearly as well as the white and bright Cologne bottle.

fragrantlyenhanced

amazing. was my workout frag for a while. it has a nice creamy almond soft aura with clean citruses. smells unique, gentle and uplifting. its just comfortable to wear getting whiffs of it thru out the day. as a gym scent with the increased body heat it starts pushing thru nicely without smelling weird or annoying. it'd say it worth the hype but you really got wear it for a while to get it. that almond note grows on you, it is a bit different. the versatility of it, how easy you can reach for it. had some nice compliments wearing it. overall just a masterfully blended frag. i heard they revived it with a new name but i haven't gotten my hands on it to compare but that is good news i hope??

jamesct16

Discontinued gem, get it if you can.

frankcrummit

Sumer is icumen in!

Under the almond blossom, citrus fruits are ripening and the grasses are dotted with lavender.

That's my slightly hysterical reaction to opening this fragrance, fresh from the shower on a bright May morning.

Wonderful what perfume can do for your mood, innit?

redsilver

Just bought yesterday 4th April 2023 a 50ml bottle of this in a store. Batch code year 2015. Wearing today started very fresh lemon, orange and grape smell very well balanced. After that bit calms down to this citric vibe plus the almond showing up. The vetiver is there to give this fresh and the withe musk to support all the fragrance. You will smell fruity nutty in a creamy away with some sweetness. Performance will update, but this one is 5 hours of the application and still smell it... it is not a beast performer will be a soft wrapping you. Delicate and sensitive scent can be unisex. A beautiful scent with its own character.
Edit: I work in the office with AC this last me 10 hours on cloths, but the projection on this one it is always more close to the skin the sillage it is nice. A nice well balanced summer fragrance.

Great99

When I first started “collecting” fragrance this was readily available, and cheap. Since fragrance has become a big hobby, and having been a collector most my life, I bought many bottles of this fragrance. Currently I am on bottle number three (I have more still sealed). Why am I on bottle three? Because in the summer I spray heavy with this one, performance is not the greatest, but the scent is quite refreshing. I have never gotten compliments wearing it, but I do enjoy it. I was looking at Ideal Extreme, available right now on Fragrancebuy for $130.00 Canadian, a long time Unicorn of mine, but I just can’t pull the trigger due to the insane price point, and it’s still available. For all us collectors (I use my scents, but do get a sense of joy watching prices hit insane levels) it is tough to watch this happen, and luckily my sanity saves me making irresponsible purchases of this nature. This is a nice scent, but don’t spend crazy money on it, as their are similar scents out there you can buy at a reasonable price. Try Jimmy Choo Ice as a summer alternative, no it is not as nice, but it’s in the same family and performs about the same. Cheers all, get ready for summer!

AJ73

Guerlain once was.. now taken over by a big whatever company which is amping up the price but ruining old formulas and releasing new “Guerlain” scents that are merely okay. Guerlain is now a shadow of what it once was. Sad but nothing lasts forever I’m alfraid.

Marcjohn86

Found it for less than $100 for the 100ml, which is about retail price for one of these I believe, so I finally decided to cop since it seems to be getting more and more difficult to find, and this is such a highly rated freshie and going into warmer weather this is exactly what I'm going to be reaching for. My initial thoughts are that it's pretty dang good, but it's hard to justify $100 for it. If this was $45-60, it would be really good, but as it stands it's only an okay value. The quality is definitely here, it's different from your standard cologne style scent although it does bear similarity to some other scents. It's quite pleasant and It's going in the "like" pile for me with room to grow ofc. My thoughts are that it's light and airy, it's got this zingy citrus off the top that reminds me a little bit of lemonade or something, and then there's that almondy L'Homme Ideal base playing support along with some floral notes, probably the neroli, which lends to both the airiness and the citrusy aspect. I have a feeling that I'm going to like this a lot more once I get to wear it when it's hot out.

derby2169

I generally don't like reviewing discontinued scents, but this is surprisingly very readily available on Ebay for a decent price (I got a 50ml for about 70$), so it may as well have been a regular purchase, sealed package and all.

So essentially I get a brilliantly bright but sweet top, people claim it is straight up grapefruit, I'm a bit skeptical, as an almost daily consumer of grapefruit this smells nothing like the rind and only remotely of the flesh, more so a very clever mixture of a bit of bergamot and sweet orange mixed with pink pepper and sweet fruity molecules to create a kind of sweet fantasy 'citrus drink' opening that is unusually pleasant but also tenacious and lasts all the way to the dry down. Very impressive so far.

The dry down is also excellent, essentially what feels like nutty tonka, some almond like powdery compounds cloaking a core of vetiver, very clean and pure vetiver, no earthiness, no peaty qualities of vetiver, just the clean, just a touch of clean woodiness in the base with clean linen-like musks

Imo Homme l'ideal Cologne simply too expensive for the current pricing, it's no secret Guerlain struggled in the last few decades, nor do they have the powerhouse production facilities of a house like Chanel, many of the newer releases like the Extreme, Cool and Sport, smell significantly inferior in quality and formula cost, with the amount of citrus oils and pink pepper, vetiver in this I have no doubt it was scrapped because the profit coming in wasn't enough to justify the cost.
Nonetheless, I highly recommend getting your hands on it if you are looking for a very interesting and over all fun creamy citrus summer fragrance.

senseofhed

I have one unopened bottle and one which I just started in Europe. If anyone is interested let me know.

FragMaster

Clean, bright, citric, slightly nutty, slightly spicy, hints of greenery, and the trademark Guerlainade base, what’s not to like? Would still be in my top 3 summer fragrance list if it was still attainable. 5/5. But a 0/5 because they axed it.

T-MacJr21

Nice scent but tettering the line of having too much musk or grapefruit for me.

clintjr82

This is an awesome freshie for the man that wants a unique scent from the typical designer ones. Fresh Almonds and Citruses. I get nothing but compliments from men and women. I even had to write the name of the scent for the gas clerk attendant one day. Equal or better than Chanels Mens Allure line. Long lasting performance also. Try it or buy it. A good blind buy.

Cancerian1978

The almond in this one makes it so elegant and classic.

manuildimov

Does anyone know please where I can find one bottle of this fragrance?? I cannot find one in stock and want to find it desperately!
If anyone has one and doesn't mind to trade or sell please dm.
Thanx

Mvcarreon

The classiest fresh scent I’ve ever smelled. I really don’t understand why this was discontinued. 30ml left in my bottle & I’ll miss smelling like it.

mohk

Top 10 men's summer designer of all time....it took me a few wearing to appreciate it...

AmiHec

Thierry Wasser is a genius for this creation. I can’t get over this fragrance, and I really want to because it’s discontinued. But no, I will continue to find bottles of this for as long as I live. There’s nothing better than this for hot days. What a brilliance you get here mixing citruses with almonds. This is such a fine fragrance. The white Guerlain. I have found another masterpiece.

Maybe Dior’s Cologne Blanche can salvage my soul but I think it’s a limited release. Oh well, might just go for the big bottle.

brokesta911

Guerlain L’homme Ideal Cologne (2015) - almond cologne - This sadly discontinued perfume by #thierrywasser has a similar vein of Dior’s Cologne Blanche - white, sparkling, powdery almonds. I also prefer this flanker with the rest of the L’homme collection. Starts with bright citruses - Bergamot, Orange, Grapefruit and that floral-citric Pink pepper. Powdery almonds with mixed orange blossom and neroli create the heart, yet, it’s mixed effortlessly with the Vetiver and Guerlinade-like base that give it depth beyond a traditional eau de cologne. A beautiful balance and extremely versatile. Worth hunting a bottle.

DT953

This one was truly discontinued too soon. It's one of those not so boring flankers that really suits Spring and Summer weather without being too much. Grapefruit, vetiver and neroli elevate the original musk almond original. Slightly smoky, extremely citrusy and a little nutty. Very, very beautiful. I purchased this from a Chemist just before it was discontinued for a very, very good price and am extremely glad I did. This should not be missed if you can find it, it's worth it. The only issue is that it becomes very soft quite quickly, but it's enjoyable for a good 7-8 hours.

manuildimov

Does anyone have one botlle of this (Guerlain L ' homme ideal cologne) for sale or trade? I'm in Europe, specifically in Greece and I'm interested, because it's one of my favorites and it's nowhere to be found here.
Otherwise I'm looking for a decent clone to replace it.
Thanks!

Winston007

I like the light smokiness; I guess it's the Vetiver.

molecularentropy

Ugh. This stuff is the stuff of dreams. Why is this discontinued, Guerlain? More importantly, why am I only discovering this after it has been discontinued?

They most amazing almond-citrus. I want to drill into the bottle and drink this stuff. Every whiff of this is just pleasure. I'm constantly trying to get a sniff of this throughout the day. Just great. And the performance is amazing for a cologne. Well done to the perfumer, fifty thousand thumbs down for the business heads at Guerlain who have apparently become anosmic to everything good.

Jim_Smith

Somebody's review says this is strictly for evenings. For me that's true. At its best, here in the UK, on warm summer evenings. I don't know if I'm too old for sweet fragrances like this at 61, but I sure love this. I'm arty and I think it suits that personality

DariaFrancesca74

Fragrance that I gave to my nephew just twenty years old, who looked badly as soon as he unwrapped the package and then slowly… finished. L'Homme Ideal Cologne by Guerlain created by the nose of Maison Guerlain Thierry Wasser in 2015. The opening notes to the juste pulvérisé are fresh, richly citrusy, they convey the joyfulness of clear sunny summer days, perceptible the lively note of pink pepper. At the dry The crémeux heart of the sweet almond totally characterizes the fragrance, making it full-bodied, at the dry down the aromatic and musky notes close the bland with great enveloping. Fresh summer sillage, moderate duration. Personally I find it unisex, the almond note is very harmonious.

MQS

For the ones who like and miss this perfume you may try Armani Eau de Cèdre by Giorgio Armani it has a similarity at some point.

12nmilnes

I don't have the performance issues that others are having. It's not a beast mode by any means, but a 1 meter silage is certainly attainable for several hours on my skin. I'm growing to like this one more and more, and I'm happy I bought it. I wouldn't overpay for it though.

Burtajones

Unique freshie for sure but after obtaining a bottle after all the hype, definitely over hyped. Longevity isn’t good at all on my skin (I moisturize a lot). Like @Felopian Kid (below), won’t miss it when it’s done.

felopian kid

The smell is nice. The opening smels like L'homme Ideal but fresher, the drydown reminds me of Prada's Amber Pour Homme. Fresh and clean, well fitting for the summer.

Performance of this on my skin is disappointing. I can smell it on myself for 1 hour, 2 hours at most. Then I need to stick my nose under my shirt to smell it of my shoulder. By the end of the work day it's long gone. Might have better luck spraying on the clothes. Not going to try that myself though. I'm used to spraying fragrances directly on my skin.

I don't think it's worth chasing after (now that it's discontinued). I'm not going to when I run out. I'm not going to miss it.

Mariano S

This has 100% been my best fragrance purchase ever, I was able to find a bottle of this masterpiece at a incredibly low price by mere luck when I was on vacation, on a store that had closed a few years back and this year opened again, seems like they kept alot of older fragrances in storage after having closed and now naturally after reopening are trying to sell them to the public.

This fragrance is just so unique, well put together, and with that amazing Guerlain quality. Opens up with such a naturally smelling citrus that is so uncommon to find and a refined spicy touch, accompanied by that signature almond that this line has that lasts through its entire lifespan after sprayed and that imho blends the best on this particular flanker, after some time the citruses calm down and it turns into a somewhat herbal scent with a creamy accord.

The longevity on this is fenomenal for a fresh scent, I notice the smell here and there even after about 7 hours, it also reactivates if one sweats. The projection is right where it should be with this type of frag, it will create a moderate bubble arround the wearer. In my opinion it can be a versatile scent with a few exceptions, but it will deffinetly shine the most on a warmer climate on a casual to formal setting. This is deffinetly not a party/clubbing scent, since it has a serious slightly mature tone. Would say ages 25+ for this, but obviously that is subjective.

PeetCom

There are the parfumes and there are the Guerlains. This smell isn't good, it is perfect. When you wear this, the world becomes also wonderful.
Smell:👍👍👍👍 👍👍

10/10.

The same DNA of ideal line but with more prominent citrussy vibes suitable for hot summer days.

Jim_Smith

Older latecomer to fragrances. Tried about 45 and this is in my top 3. Not had a chance to try it in blazing heat- Just the cold British Spring. It has been unspectacular in the mild to moderate daytime, but for some reason, amazing late at night. I am addicted. Don't know why but it opens up to my best satisfaction when sprayed in the crook of my right elbow

Paul Vall

Applied 6 sprays yesterday and I'm STILL enjoying that beautiful almond note. This is one discontinued frag that needs to be brought back into production.

laren

My favorite in this line. I'm so sad because has been discontinued :(

Made by Kouros

Lovely grapefruit opening, then neroli and almond for a hint of sweetness. I wore through a tester of this. It's ok nice, nothing more nothing less. All of the freshies in the L'Homme Ideal line are nice, but none really shine through; the evening wear department is where it's at.

simian

Since this has been discontinued you may want to consider Chanel's Allure Homme Edition Blanche as an alternative. Both remind me of Minute Maid soft frozen lemonade or similar deserts. Crisp refreshing lemon, sweet, slightly creamy and smooth. Stunning in the summer heat. Ideal Cologne is a bit more effervescent due to the musk really dirving home that cool iced/frozen desert vibe. This also has much better longevity and you can still detect it on clothing 8 hours later. It is very faint but it is there. Sad that Guerlain discontinued this gem but you can get the same effect in Edition Blanche so no reason to shed tears over the loss.

Mina Abdo

I was lucky to find this beautiful bottle in the duty free in Cairo. Such amazing unique summer fragrance.

High quality one of the best love love love

I blind bought it yesterday. The juice was as expected, Dior homme cologne with a bit of Almond cream.
Nice scent but the performance is average.
Decided to give away, anyone interested mssg me, from UAE

Edit on 25-03-24,
I can't believe I planned to give it away.. This just grew with me.. Fantastic lovely almond cream..
I wear it only when its a weekend.. Sun is so bright today around 12:00, I take a bath.. wear a crispy white t-shirt. Sprays a few around me.. open the window and taking a Sun bath with my favourite music in the ears..

Chanel never released a “Bleu L’eau” of sorts because Guerlain beat them to the punch. Big grapefruit and smoky vetiver with a fun nuttiness in the background. This could be your only summer fragrance if you’re insistent on being a minimalist. Poor lasting power; this fragrance was meant for liberal and repeated application but has unfortunately been made precious. At currently eBay pricing it’s in line with regular department store fare, so it’s not terrible considering it’s better than most contemporary offerings. If you really like it, stock up.

What was I waiting for?! I've been reading reviews on this one for years, but I just don't trust reviewers' hype. They were right on this one. This has soared to the top 5 of my favorite citrus fragrances now, and I have about 70 or so fragrances and have tested hundreds.

I'm not a big fan of grapefruit in fragrances because it can be bitter and sour sometimes, but the grapefruit here is smoothed out by the almond. It's still acidic but the almond and spices makes it a complimentary spicy, citrusy, slightly creamy concoction. I get 6 plus hours of longevity with this one. Wore this to church on a cool easter sunday about 55 degrees F. Not sure of projection yet, need to test more on a warmer day.

As we use to say in my circles when i was a kid: I "lunched" on this one. Now discontinued, a reasonably priced bottle is hard to find although decants can be found on ebay and etsy. I may have to pick up a bigger decant or spend 70 to 90 bucks on 1.6 oz bottle at the same sites while I still can.

Jose.uk

Before this fragrance was discontinued, it seemed to be loved by most and enjoyed a bit of hype for being unique, fresh and affordable.

Mentions on YouTube and positive reviews here on Fragrantica were mounting and it even became a bit of a darling within the fragcomm.

When rumours that this had been discontinued were confirmed, there was general outcry. Stories of sorrow and despair ran amok, people throwing themselves in front of trains and jumping off balconies. A caustic ‘Shame on you Guerlain’ was often heard. Prices on eBay skyrocketed and panic ensued lol.

Now that the dust has settled and humanity has survived what was made out to be a major crisis, you see posts everywhere of people selling their bottles, discarded, abandoned, some sad ones without a cap on eBay, relegated to the low price tier. Loved no more.

This is a cautionary tale of how fickle and fleeting this community (and industry) can be.

L’Homme Ideal Cologne is a great fragrance that starts with an invigorating citrus and settles into something resembling those Pez sweets that somehow have survived the test of time. The unique almond note becomes aromatic and blends perfectly with the fresh notes. A lovely and fizzy scent that works best during hot summer days, 6-8 spritzes will delight you and people in your bubble for around 6 hours -as long as you keep regularly hydrated, that helps. This scent profile garners compliments as it is both fresh and sweet.

I’m glad that I have a back up bottle that I purchased before the bizarre frenzy, along with the proverbial bag of popcorn that I’ve enjoyed whilst watching the chaos unfold.

Invasionbg

Little bit like an old school cologne to my nose. I’ve got a 50ml bottle with 5 sprays missing.
Whoever is in UK can send me an offer. Coming in full presentation.

Spendthrift

So I picked up a 50ml of this very early on in my collecting days. I think purely because it was yellow and I already had a blue and a green!

I got it from TKMaxx, which in hindsight was a sign that it was on its way to the discontinued graveyard. TK kept restocking for a little while and I wish I’d bought every single one I saw.

Probably the ‘truest’ edc I own, in that there’s no unrealistic expectations about performance. It’s no powerhouse, but no slouch either for a few hours. Certainly a summer’s morning or evening.

The grapefruit and almond work together beautifully.

I know there’s no hope of me finding another at the price I paid for it. So it’s used very sparingly. It’s become my ‘warm short breaks away’ scent and for that It’s perfect

lifeofS89

Gorgeous scent, horrendous performer. Picked mine up for £20 for 50 ml just before they started getting rare. glad to have it, but not overly bothered its discontinued given the performance.

Smccrac3

Very nice summertime frag. Citrus in opening is pleasing and the distinctive almond note is present throughout. I go for this one on warm days when I’m going for a casual vibe, but if I’m being honest I prefer other freshies most of the time. Overall B+.

Saltychipdust

Lets just say it how it is….Smells great but some weak ass sauce!! What people want for these now it’s a hard NO!!!

Scootie

A well rounded classy fragrance for the warmer days.
I don‘t know why, but this brings back old memories. As much as I enjoy this scent, the feedback was mixed („grandpa scent“).

Considering the weak performance and its rising price, I think there might be better options now.

FraGyn

Found a bottle at the duty free in Costa Rica and so glad I did. I can’t decide whether I love this or the EDT more in this line. The grapefruit is delicious in this one. Not sour like D&G Light Blue Forever, which I also love. This one is lighter and smoother than light blue forever. It lasts a long time but sits pretty close. Very addictive fragrance to wear. Great very unique summer fresh fragrance. You can smell the DNA of the original especially as it dries down.

The L'Homme Ideal line, by Guerlain, appeared in 2014. At the time, there were whispers about the brand's attempt to win back the male audience, who had been enchanted by another line, a decade older, and from a brand competitor: Dior Homme.
While one was successful and broke paradigms by presenting a powdery iris for men, the other decided to bet on the sensuality of the woody-orientals and brought almonds as a key ingredient in its compositions. And it worked!

The first fragrance, L'Homme Ideal Eau de Toilette, was a sales success and, in the following year, Thierry Wasser brought a fresher version of this almond, to face the competition's version, launched in 2013. And the dispute was fierce!

L’Homme Ideal Cologne, contrary to what most people think, is not an Eau de Cologne, but an Eau de Toilette. Its fragrance brings notes of orange, grapefruit, bergamot, and pink pepper on top. Then, in the body, notes of neroli, and almonds. At the base, notes of Indian vetiver, and white musk.

On the skin, L’Homme Ideal Cologne is endlessly light. But calm down! The lightness is consistent and well built, I would even say...addictive. The bergamot is bright, the grapefruit is juicy and the neroli – a bit rushed – conveys an Italian touch to this creation, which is French.

And everything here is perfect, not just in evolution, but in the way the almonds reveal themselves and give a creamier appearance. And best of all: it does not, at any time, leave a scent of moisturizing almond lotion, as it does not lose its citrus and refreshing content. From the base, the musk stands out on my skin, almost overshadowing the vetiver.

That fragrance that had everything to behave in a smooth and, dare I say, a little sportive way, proves to be an excellent choice for daily use, especially in places with very high temperatures, such as Brazil. Its performance is incredible and praise comes all the way!

Unfortunately, it was discontinued (which is a sin) and they tried to adapt it to other flankers, such as the Sport (2017) and the Cool (2019) versions, but without the same success. The latter versions bring the almonds in the initial explosion and introduce patchouli into the base, ensuring greater longevity.

Anyway, one thing is certain: L’Homme Ideal Cologne was Thierry Wasser's way of saying: “Iris, you have no rights here!”.

PapaTLooch

A fun, lighthearted, feel-good summer citrus that's just so pleasant. Yes, it's smells like a fruity soda pop at first but in a good way. The notes all blend perfectly and it never smells overly sweet. The dry down becomes more clean and sophisticated as the citrus fades and the almond becomes more pronounced. It's definitely a nice addition to anyone's collection and I'm glad I found a bottle on ebay.

Milan17

I do not really like any of the other L’Homme Ideals. The EDT, EDP and Extreme for example all seem to give me a Dr. Pepper/Cherry Coke vibe. But the way Guerlain paired that signature almond note with bright sweet citruses here smells so much better to me. Granted, I love citruses. I could’ve done with a bit more citrus and a little less almond, but it smells fantastic as is. This is fresh, smooth and sweet. The projection is restrained but the almond note lasts a long time on your skin together with a little bit of white musk, it performs great for a fresh fragrance.

My favourite part is the smell when you exhale hot air on your skin when you think it’s almost gone after 6-8 hours, the sweet citruses are suddenly brought back to life. The L’Homme Ideal bottle Iooks fantastic with a heavy cap and such a great atomizer, the details that simply make it even more fun to use. I have a 2015 batch by the way, but I’m almost positive there was no reformulation for this one during its short life based on the ingredient list I've seen of batches from later years.

SimplDude

I have Dior Homme Cologne that I wear on Spring and Summer but I think this one will replace my DHC for Summer next year.

Follow up review:

To my nose, this one has probably the most gorgeous mid and dry down among designer colognes. The opening has this almondy citrus vibe that I also like. I hope this last long but that is quite normal for colognes to be re applied at least once or twice till end of day. Surprisingly, this one drew tons of compliments. 😍 love it! 🙌

Try before you buy is always a great idea!

“Let's spread the scents of peace and kindness. The two most beautiful fragrance in the world that will cost you nothing and will get you a totally different kind of compliments” 🙏

WGG

Lemonade, almond, cherry. A spring, summer treat but last summer didnt reach for much if at all. Pulled back to old favourites - Eau de Rochas, Armani Eau, Chanel PM, even Aventus. So selling up.

RichieRich

Citrus done right, this is fresh heaven in a bottle. Love this. Longevity is about 3 hours, projection around 30 min, still worth it.

Bottle from 2018
Overall rating 10/10

Trendkill97

Gives a vibe off a less sweetened "7up/Sprite" soft drink, effervescent, reminds me a little of Dior Homme Cologne as well, but with added almond and neroli notes, the pink pepper comes through prominently, a gorgeous well put together quality freshie overall, quite different from the entire Ideal line, shame that it's been discontinued. I see this to be an appealing, versatile, casual summer scent not aquatic in style, but with some added maturity and character. 7/10

Kelz23

Got this one and cool in the mail today. Both are great scents but cologne is better. Smoother and slightly sweeter. Cool is more on the greener side. They don’t smell anything alike

Danitom

A beautiful scent that borders on a gourmand but is not sweet enough to be put into the gourmand category. More of a spring/summer scent but it can be pulled off all year round. The almond-cherry note is unique and beautiful. Worth getting if you can still find it. I get 4-5 hours out of it with many compliments. What a shame... this fragrance received lots of love from the community but was discontinued by Guerlain and replaced by the Sport flanker which is not as good. A real pity to see it go.

Update (Aug 2022): Still loving it. Bring it back!!!

Spasticink

Just bought 2 extra bottles as a backup of this beautiful gem.
Love the almond-citrus-neroli combo. I agree that this could be a little better blended as you can get chlorine/detergent vibe but all in all it's a very good, unique scent.
Do not overprice on this as EDT, Sport and Cool are quite similar. You only will not get this citrus notes on tope.
9/10

EauDeMarcello

This is a good fragrance to learn that you shouldn’t believe the hype. Smells like washing maschine powder, but without the class of Prada L’homme. Performance is non existent, you don’t really get a dry down. Get cool,
It’s much better in every way.. I’m glad I tested this before hand to know for sure I didn’t need it. The EDP and COOL are the two picks for hot and cold weather.. this is heavily overrated.. I’m selling a full bottle less 5 sprays if you want it

MCLXIX

This is discontinued but that’s okay because it’s worth whatever number the eBay man says it’s worth.

ScentManJojo

This is a great juice from start to finish. Starts with nice citrus of grapefruit with the bergamot and pink pepper... heads towards the citrus almond mix that is very nice and enjoyable before becoming a skin scent of musk and slight almond to my nose. Now that it is discontinued, the price is starting to get out of hand for this fragrance. If you are into citrus scents, and have the cash for it, this is a safe blind buy IMO. Enjoy!

legendaryironhood

This is a quite unique freshie in my opinion. Tha almond in it gives it a beautiful twist, still keeps it fresh but adds it an almost edible quality. I personally think this is unisex, leaning a bit more towards male.

Dr Harder

All the praise for this one is 100% justified, this is such an amazing fragrance. I expect even higher praise now given the fact that it is discontinued and hard to find. Guerlain l'homme ideal cologne smells like expensive creme or lotion, something similar to the avene soaps and lotions, its just magnificent smell. Also, projection is better than what is written below, I got 1-2 hours of solid projection cloud and 6-7 hours of longevity, not bad at all. Overall this is easily 10/10 fragrance

Abry_81

Guerlain is meaningful to me of perfumer mastery and good taste, after Jean Paul Guerlain retired in 2010 and chose Thierry Wasser as his replacement, he had a tough task as the bar was very high.
In 2014 L'Homme ideal men's gourmand perfume (Guerlain of the new era) was born, which was very well received for combining that almond accord with an intense freshness, a year later its first flanker "Cologne" was launched, a marvel of perfume of those perfect for the summer and I would dare to say for almost the whole year (except for the extreme cold) because maintaining that same almond seal this wonder is loaded with citrus fruits (grapefruit, bergamot and orange) which give a very beautiful accord with the almond and that my nose always brings to mind pure creamy lemon, the most incredible thing is that citrus fruits are felt throughout the life of this fragrance, something that is not very common because these notes tend to be very volatile, although in the At the beginning they are stronger (but never shrill or sharp) they join in perfect harmony with the almond accord and remain perfectly perceptible until the last hours of drying accompanied there by musk and a fresh vetiver (not earthy or green).
In a market crowded with blue fragrances and full of ambroxam, Wasser was very successful with this sadly discontinued fragrance and that although it does not play the sparkling line of many colognes, it fulfills its function of refreshing in its own way in the warmer seasons, the duration for Luck on my skin is very good (I have heard quite a few criticisms about it) the projection if it is moderate to low and although the entire line is not to project much it feels bursts every so often in addition to making us a personal bubble.

AA4102

Shame on you, Guerlain! For giving us the best summer day fragrance and simply taking it away. And to add insult to the injury, you replaced it with Sport and Cool?! Shame!

Shame!

Shame!

I was able to buy a bottle of this in Clermont Ferrand as I was travelling down to the south of France, having heard a significant amount of hype and being aware it was discontinued. I also own the EDP in the same range and really enjoy that one, so I

For some reason I initially found the cologne quite cloying for some reason. However I persevered and found that this one just comes alive in high heat for some reason. I know it’s obviously designed to be a summer fragrance, but it just seems to pop off the skin in the heat. The grapefruit opening eventually settles into a beautiful almond/vetiver dry down. It’s refreshing and is one of those frags that is comforting when you’re hot.

A very well blended and well executed fragrance in my opinion.

Guerlain L’Homme Ideal Cologne:

“Blanc”

L’Homme Ideal Cologne is perhaps the fragrance that embodies the phrase “joy in a bottle” more so than any other I’ve come across so far. It opens up with a vibrant, acidic grapefruit and later develops the signature almond accord consistent across the entire L’Homme Ideal line, adding an almost bitter sort of creaminess to the scent. It reminds me a little bit of Dior Homme Cologne 2013, but with more body and nuance.

L’Homme Ideal Cologne is easily the least complex of the five, but by no means boring. Definitely worth a try for the unique note combo, and quality Guerlain blending.

BillHader

Wow. The opening blew me away first sniff. What a fragrance, holy cow.

awm0912

L’Homme Ideal is a nice cologne to wear on a warm summer evening. It has a lovely fruity citrusy scent. To be worn by a sophisticated man.

Marzepam

Gorgeous and underrated. Amazing smell. From opening it’s poetry. Complex and sophisticated. Citrus … that will not leave You quiet. Great for summer. Fresh and clean on opening gets light sweet when it dries with almond as an accent. Best in all line. Vacations and hot days it is where it fits. Pity it’s discontinued

markromeo5

Grapefruit, orange and almonds... Perfect for hot summer days.

AlexanderFin

A Great Fragrance, Sadly Its Discontinued and costs too much, and no clone of it too! (Zara 9.0 Summer) could be a budget alternative of it. Not absolutely same, but similar!

vadlee1995

This reminds me of Allure Homme Edition Blanche from Chanel with an almond twist; only slightly less refined yet easier to wear and more playful. I've tested it on some of my female friends and they all loved it. It is also more versatile than I thought. The heavy blast of varied citruses in the opening dials back a little in the heart, allowing the creamy, syrupy, vanillic sweetness come to play which puts a smile whenever I want to wear it in cooler days. It used to have terrific pricing prior to discontinuation, but now some sellers just jacked up the price due to its rarity. I say if you can't find any for under 100 just save up a little more and go for Edition Blanche instead. Though, if you're desperate, there's really no restriction refraining you from getting this beautiful L'homme Ideal Cologne from Guerlain.

Personal Rating: 8.7/10

The best one from the line, especially for the hot summer days. When I apply this gorgeous scent to my skin it immediately makes me feel happy, it's just an uplifting magic in a nice bottle! So sad that I can't find it anymore...

Oh boy. From the presentation, to the scent, this is such an amazing fragrance. The bottle, as all in the L'homme Ideal line, looks awesome in its simplicity. The square bottles look cool in any collection, especially if you have multiple flankers (once you get one, you want them all- trust me). This one is white and the liquid has a light yellow tinge. The bottle and its colors represent the smell fairly well. The elegance is in the bottle's simplicity. It just looks cool, and different. It's intriguing. I usually don't pay much attention to bottles, but this one is above the par. It's got a good snap on cap, and you can pick it up from the cap- which is still weird to me that this is something that is considered when reviewing fragrances.

PROTIP: Don't pick up your bottles by the cap ever, it's dumb

The atomizers on the L'homme Ideal bottles are also absolutely amazing. They're extremely well made, just like the Dior ones. I always wondered why people put any thought behind atomizers when reviewing a fragrance, but after encountering good ones and bad ones, you really learn to appreciate a good atomizer.

The scent has that beautiful creamy almond paired with an amazing grapefruit note. This smells so fresh, but not in a clean blue-scent type of way. It is not aquatic. It is just a light, pleasant, citrus almond fragrance that smells absolutely amazing. The notes smell perfectly blended, and the fragrance smells absolutely amazing on skin. I believe this is unisex, because it is so sweet, without being cloying or too fruity. It is the perfect balance of sweetness and freshness that works well in the summer. It is very pleasing, easy to wear, and easily mass appealing. But as with all of the L'homme Ideal flankers, you will smell extremely good and different from most other people. This line has mass appealing fragrances, but its Guerlain, so they are going to be unique and of high quality.

This fragrance has an especially natural feel to it. Guerlain really shines with making fragrances smell natural. The grapefruit and almond in this just smell so delicious together. It's not gourmand, its not aquatic... its just something completely of its own that is hard to put into words. There is a reason that this is so highly regarded.

Sadly, it is discontinued, and I really have no idea why. There are a bunch of other flankers, and they are all are still sold. Of course they are hard to find in the US, but they aren't discontinued. Guerlain should bring this back. If they brought it back under a new name for a cash grab I'd still buy it, it's that damn good.

Guerlain makes excellent classy fragrances, but has also come into the modern age and created more masterpieces. Yes the L'homme Ideal line may be "mass-appealing" but this fragrance is so far removed from the popular fragrances out now that to consider it a mainstream mass-appealing fragrance would be doing it an injustice. As I said before, if you wear this, especially in the spring and summer, you will smell good to others, but different. This has a very alluring scent. It is so addictive. It was love at first smell for me. It's one of the bottles that I smell the atomizer of daily, just to enjoy the smell. I have half of my 50ml left and I am cherishing it. I may need a backup bottle.

See how much I rambled? That's how much I love this fragrance.

Foxsbiscuits

I'm struck by how beautiful the bottle is, how nice it feels in the hand and the white accent is gorgeously offset by the slightly yellow liquid. I don't know how I missed this one, I thought it would be a dialled down version of the original, basically the same structure and accord in a watery cologne strength. How wrong I was. The scent is matched perfectly by the bottle. Almost immediately as I sprayed it onto my wrist I caught a whiff of something completely unexpected, it was the absence that shocked me. There is almost no original Ideal DNA here; the harsh cherry and cheap feeling wood are gone and I couldn't be happier.

What's there instead is a most welcome surprise, an extremely pleasant and very wearable harmony of grapefruit and almond backed by smooth vetiver woodiness. Guerlain did a hefty grapefruit back in the day with Pamplelune but it came off too pissy and one dimensional on me. Cologne has this gorgeous interplay of the softer, almost warm, almond dancing around the surprisingly persistent and bright grapefruit note.

This is where it being called Cologne seems misleading. It's a medium weight scent, not a faint cologne. There's no fading citrus topnotes, instead this grapefruit hangs around for the whole duration and steadily tapers off through the drydown. You get the classic warm/cool contrast that often makes for great fragrance (Fahrenheit for example), and prevents it from becoming overly linear as you get varying mixes of the almond/grapefruit accord through the length of the wear into the vetiver/wood finale.

Even the L'Homme part of the name is misleading, I think this could easily be worn by women, the assistant at the Guerlain counter said his colleague and her boyfriend share a bottle. I'd say it sits ever so slightly to the masculine side of unisex but that's only by today's generalisations.

I also don't get prominent vetiver and that's a good thing for me. I'm sure it's in there but either blended in well enough or being the smoother, softer, woody vetiver rather than the more grassy or smokey type which I don't like.

I think this is a good Wasser creation, it exemplifies his Swiss precision. It doesn't have the bombast or excitement of something from Jean Paul Guerlain and I've had a hard time accepting that. It's a bit like your favourite band putting out a very different sounding record and changing their style over time. Guerlain today simply isn't Guerlain of old, for better or worse.

Although no timeless masterpiece or complex orchestration Ideal Cologne smells good and is well built, standing above many mainstream releases whilst still being very wearable. You get a persistent grapefruit note that lasts and is softened by a light, pale, almond woodiness.

freqish

just bought a 50ml bottle for 20 euro and after trying it i had to buy 8 more that was still for sale from this seller because i f**king love it!!!!! i could drink/eat this smell. smells so amazing. i have only opened a box from 2015 so i don't know about newer formulations but damn i am in love. defiantly my favourite scent of my collection to date. so disappointed this is discontinued but lucky i have a lot of bottles to keep me going XD
anyway the projection and performance is defiantly not the best for me unfortunately so i can easily do like 10 sprays. even with so many sprays it does not smell alcoholy or off-putting in anyway like some fragrances can. it is just such a smooth well put together fragrance that i can't get enough of.

Mr.dondunna7

One of the most gorgeous scents I have ever smelled...Guerlain L'Homme Ideal Cologne. A fruity and woody scent with top notes of orange and bergamot. Heart notes of neroli and almonds and base notes of white musk. Beautiful fragrance!!

Summer Banger. Living here in Southern Florida, as a sweet fragrance lover this is perfect for the hot summer days. Don’t expect to get noticed while wearing this, rather it’s something you should enjoy yourself. Get it now while you can!

Grensfall

I fell for the hype on Youtube and decided to make a blind buy. I was certainly not disappointed. This is one of my absolute favourite summer fragrances. Creamy citrus with some spiciness and bitter almond. I'd certainly agree that this is a very different type of citrus fragrance; it's not unique but it's noticeable different compared to a lot of stuff on the market today which is great. It definitely has some class to it. So sad it's discontinued.

This fragrance also made me realise the power of skin chemistry when it comes to fragrances. Most of the reviews I have seen and read make complaints about performance. That is surprising to me because this is very nearly a beast mode fragrance when I use it: 4 sprays and I get 9+ houres without problems and it stays for several days on cloathing. During the summer before Corona I was in a hurry to catch the train for work. I was not sweating but my body was heating up as I entered the crowded train car. I felt how this fragrance exploded of my skin and almost filled the whole train car. People must have thought I had showered in L’Homme Ideal Cologne but I had only applied a couple of sprays.

The ideal cologne !
Guerlain is no longer the same house that it once was. Since 94, when the brand was acquired by LVMH, the fragrances started to take a different direction.

Truth to be told, they launched several great fragrances since that time (the Acqua Allegoria Pamplelune and Herba Fresca, the fantastic L'Instant de Guerlain or even Cuir Beluga) but the majority of their fragrances were just mass market impulses.

Since Jean Paul Guerlain left the house in 2010, and choose Thierry Wasser to replace him, Wasser is been working hard to keep the heritage of the brand alive and to bring some good ideas to the table. The Les Absolu D'Orient line is decent (Ambre Eternel is absolutely great and my favorite, by far) and Mon Guerlain is doing well but they needed a new masculine line. L'Homme ideal (2014).

The concept was to create a sweet-gourmand scent with a everlasting freshness, and the result was quite convincing. I like the tonka-guerlinade-amaretto accord of the fragrance but it lacks something in the overall idea. That's when the Cologne flanker appears.

This one took the original tonka-amaretto accord and added a juicy grapefruit note which lasts the entire lifetime of the fragrance. Not a usual thing. The beauty of this fragrance, at least for me, is that is a citric fragrance that actually lasts with the citric being in the front during the lifetime. Longlasting, super fresh and very alluring and even, should I say, sexy!

The result is quite fascinating. A grapefruit with an almond-ish impression and a vetiver-musk finale. Thierry Wasser improved the DNA of the original idea and he never reached the right tune again with the rest of the line. Unfortunately, and i don't know why, they discontinued this fragrance and replaced it with Cool, which is supposedly a minty version but fails completely.

The EDP is the one that is talked about but I never cared much. Basically a cherry-tonka version of the original. Good but not so masterfully done as the Cologne version.

Make me a favor and pick up a bottle (or two) of this fragrance because you will miss it when it disappear completely.

People kept hyping this fragrance and it was hard to find since it’s discontinued but when I found it I had to get it
When I tried it on my skin it wasn’t obvious what going on but I sprayed my clothes a couple of times and here is the surprise
It’s the original dna + citrus that’s it
It’s not as good as the people claimed
To me COOL ideal is a lot better
Longevity is average

In a world where generic bleu ambroxan-laden men's "fresh" fragrances rule the fragrance industry with an iron fist, tender shoots of refreshing originality sometimes attempt to break out of the collectivist soil. Sadly, the fragrance proletariat cannot break from the agitprop that bombards with bleu-tinged images of mascara-wearing pseudo-pirates. And so, the fragile resistance is crushed under the jackboot of low mass-market appeal. It gets discontinued and replaced with something far less beautiful, less creative, something that falls more in line with the Party Platform. Thus is the sad story of Guerlain Ideal Cologne. Get it while you still can on the black market, for you won't find it anywhere in the Central Department Store, where glassy-eyed, mantra-repeating sales reps will tell you how good Ideal Cool is...

Such a wonderful relaxing summer scent. sadly its discontinued and it is really hard to find a cheaper price.
I'm disappointed that my bottle got fucked up from sunlight and it is completely destroyed.the juice inside turns in to eggish almond vetiver scent. hoping that I can find a new one again.

freight dog

I managed to find this at a reasonable price so I snapped up a 50 ml. I love L’Homme Ideal EDT and Guerlain in general and wanted to add another Ideal flanker to the collection. After hearing the hype, and especially leading into summer, the Cologne was my choice. So, I do get the grapefruit and almond and neroli, but only for a moment. For about 30 seconds it smells great then I literally smell nothing. I know it’s not just me, because i oversprayed it and my wife, who usually hacks up a lung every time I spray a single mist, didn’t even NOTICE. I sprayed some Tommy Bahama Maritime on my right wrist just to make sure I’m not crazy and the Cologne makes the Tommy smell beast mode in comparison. Two hours later I have a super light skin scent on my left wrist like a twice used dryer sheet and the Tommy is still strong on my right wrist. It’s great smelling but literally zero performance on my skin.

Edit: I started wearing this in the summer and it turned into my absolute favorite summer scent and my current favorite from the Ideal line. I really love the grapefruit with the vanilla, almond and tonka. I don't know if the bottle needed to macerate, but the longevity now seems MUCH better. I can still catch whiffs of it in the air as much as 8 hours later.

Guerlain L’Homme Ideal Cologne seems to have a great reputation in the community and largely lives up to it; it’s a nuanced, interesting, fresh variation on the original L’Homme Ideal EDT. The Cologne consists of a bright opening of mixed citruses (grapefruit, orange, bergamot) drying down to a mix of pink pepper, almond, white musk, and vetiver (in order of prominence, to my nose). It has a bit of a petitgrain vibe to in that there’s something hearty and starchy about it, a bit of a richness underlying the citrus top.

At retail pricing (I assume in the $70-100 range for 100ml), it was probably a little overpriced but it’s quite nice in the $50-or-lower range for a 100ml bottle, an interesting fresh cologne type but with some intrigue, not unlike a Dior Homme Cologne (not in terms of the scent itself, but in impact), in that respect, but certainly a little less bright and more grounded in the earthiness of the base.

Overall, it’s a nice blend and one I’d recommend if it can be obtained at a reasonable price. It performs fairly well but not above an average designer fresh/warm weather scent. It starts out bright and then dries down fairly quickly to a more balanced vibe between the lingering bright citrus top notes and slightly thicker heart/base. I’m definitely glad to have a bottle.

I've owned this since January 2020 and it was an amazing purchase, right before it became a rarity. It smells like a citrusy ice cream with almond sprinkes, much like how Ultra Zest is described (but I never smelled nor will I ever be able to smell Ultra Zest). Lasts a good 6+ hours as well. It's delicious and amazing, I rest my case.

The_Big_Kahuna709

To me when watching videos about this fragrance I think one thing that gets left out is how sweet it is. It's not overly sweet but isn't mentioned in a bunch of reviews. This is a beautiful scent and if you can find it in the $50-60 range I would pick it up. The performance is good I get 4-6 hours. I usually don't spray more than 3 times or else it gets overly sweet for me.

Overall: 8.5/10

shoeless_joe23

This is a pleasant scent with poor performance. I understand it’s a cologne concentration but for me at least, I don’t understand the hype surrounding it. I currently have a 100 ML bottle that’s easily 95% full and willing to trade or sell it straight out before I lost it on eBay. This just doesn’t do anything for me and I have other stuff I’d much rather reach for than this one.

lostsoul007

Considering this is one of my favorites, I should probably write something about it... this is an absolutely magnificent scent. The end.

So what to expect... well, I’m going to unintentionally reiterate some of what the gentleman beneath me wrote here since he’s pretty spot on. It is mouthwatering... perhaps literally.

The opening is bright, creamy, zesty, and so clean and up-lifting... It’s amazing. The smooth, creamy almond and tart, zesty citrus are masterfully blended here and are front and center right from the start, working flawlessly together. However, I feel every note listed here hits you right at first, but as the fragrance dries down and begins to breathe, the notes open up more and are easier to breakdown. Such as the pink pepper, it’s not very prominent at all, it’s more of a supporting note, and as the fragrance dries down and reaches the mid the pepper comes out to play ever so slightly to give it a little kick. Same goes for the neroli... if I search for it in the mid I can pick it up, but at this point the almond is still most prominent.

What you are left with after this exciting, energetic, aromatic opening and intriguing mid is a breezy white musk and vetiver, and because of this it makes this fragrance absolutely perfect for layering. Although this is not a heavy fragrance, it’s not very light, either. It has a nice balance, but applying a heavier fragrance like Terre D’Hermes or Chanel Allure Homme Sport after can blend effortlessly.

I like to wear this in the morning and/or out of the shower. Because of the bright creamy nature of this, it reminds me of body lotion, so I almost treat it as such. Some refer to this as a semi-gourmand, and because of how delicious it is and how mouthwatering the opening can be I agree, to an extent. However, because of the bright, energetic citrus and the calming and relaxing, creamy almond, vetiver and white musk, I find this to be more of a fougere, and I love it for that. I can easily wear this after my morning shower and a shave, it works and smells incredible along with any standard white bar soap (Jergens) or French milled, any citrus and vetiver body wash (Cremo), any white musk aftershave (the Body Shop), and a primarily unscented body lotion (Jergens “Ultra Healing”). Of course these are just some examples of what works for me, but you get the idea. Maybe it can help some get the most out of certain frags by pairing.

As for performance and longevity, absolutely no complaints here. However, as I mentioned, this is a fragrance I like to start my day with, so I’m fine with the few hours where I can easily pick it up before putting something else on, since it’s generally not one I reach for again throughout the day. With that said, if I’m looking for all day performance I’ll reach for something else. I get about 6 hours longevity with 2 hours of noticeable projection, but not loud or brash. It’s very easy to wear and perfect first thing in the morning to help get your day going without wearing something heavy, making you sick. I don’t know about you, but putting on something rum based or sweet, like vanilla or a heavy patchouli just turns my stomach first thing in the morning, so this is perfect.

Now I find this to be a fairly unique scent, I really haven’t found any that are too similar, but some off the top of my head from my collection I feel are in the same vein are...

-Byredo Bal D’Afrique
-MFK Amyris Homme Extrait
-Kajal Homme II
-Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme/Edition Blanche
-PDM Pegasus
-Amouage Reflection Man
-Creed Aventus Cologne
-Xerjoff Renaissance
-Versace Pour Homme (Signature)
-Terre D’Hermes Eau Tres Fraiche
-Prada L’homme
-Goldfield and Banks Bohemian Lime

All in all... 10/10.

PS. If you’re interested in this, hurry up and buy! Since it’s been discontinued it’s depleting rather quickly. Fortunately, I was able to pick up another 100mL tester back up for around $50 off eBay. It’s a shame Guerlain chose this one to discontinue.

So straight the point... I LOVE THIS FRAGRANCE.

I have had this fragrance for almost two months after testing out a 2ml decant and most of my testing has been indoors although I have worn this a handful of times outside meeting friends. In fact a year ago when I had first got into fragrances I had smelt this and wasn't initially impressed but since my nose had developed I decide to give it a second chance AND WHAT A DECISION IT WAS.

Best way to describe this scent is that it opens with this really bright sparkling citrus vibe (mainly picking up the grapefruit ) with a hint of creaminess from the almond. The way its balanced is so effervescent that reminds me almond lemonade which is at times so mouthwatering and refreshing whilst wearing for the first 30 mins as the sparkling freshness slowly fades and almond starts to take more of a front seat. As this settles this becomes an amazingly astonishing creamy sweet delight without ever becoming too much which it remains for the majority of the fragrances progression here.

In terms of performance it has been a lot better for me as some the reviews from youtube and here online. I seem to get varying longevity between 6-8 hours depending on the climate and its projection is about an arms length away whilst its not a beast people around you will at least notice it. In terms with varying longevity I have tested it out a few times as it is now spring in the UK I find on days of more moderate temperate around 15ºc this easily performs well for around 8 hours with it projecting strongly for 2 hours and another 2 hours before settling into a more intimate scent for the most part. I would say on warmer days as I tested today 24ºC in the park it projected well for the 1.5 hours before it started to settle gradually with moderate projection until it became a skin scent at around 4/5 hours with it remaining on skin very faintly on skin until 8 hrs... so I would recommend freshening up after 6hrs if you plan to wear it in higher heat (which I did!) or spraying heavy on clothes!

But when you consider it is a warm weather fragrance its performance is slightly better than you'd expect.

Its bit early for me talk about compliments but so far but I have received two compliments so far with one my friends wanting to buy this a present for someone else. I feel it will also be a very safe pleasing scent and from my perception cant see people around me disliking it.

Additionally as previously mentioned I really love this scent it doesn't seem the most masculine and if anything I would say this is a straight up unisex scent but it is done right! It also has this factor of smelling unique when compared to what most others are wearing.

Unfortunately this fragrance is discontinued and wish I could get a 100ml. But that isn't a major problem I managed to find 50ml for pretty cheap and because it was so good quickly bought a backup bottle to keep me good.

That being said I feel like I want to give a bit more of an update after I spend more time with it hopefully in the coming weeks but so far I'm pretty impressed.

So good but so weak... I got 20 ml decant and i spray it like a maniac, but i won't get full bottle for current price.

pauladeyemo

For the UK fragrance people this reminds me a bit of "Cif" nevertheless - it's a very nice fragrance. has the signature almond not that Guerlain use and I've never smelt a fragrance combine fresh and creamy smells so smoothly while still completely natural. 9/10.

Knightsbridge9

A lovely unisex spring/summer scent. The bottle is extremely impressive with a good weight to it and Guerlain logo engravings on the sprayer and on/in the lid. The grapefruit opening is sublime and really grabs your attention. The dry down is very powdery and soothing. I personally couldn’t smell any almond at all.

Ibrahim88

Best summer day fragrance fresh and clean scent.
Good longevity.
I wished it was the best sillage.

AA4102

Radiant. Alluring. Captivating. Delicate. Classy. Refined. Ideal.

My sunshine in a bottle.

gregonisle

Beautiful citrus creamy fragrance. Classy spring/summer scent.
Great quality ingredients. You still can get it for a fantastic price. Shame it was discontinued.

dawgmangatorraper

The citrus on this is so natural smelling- smells like an incredibly fresh lemon peel. The creaminess mainly comes from the almond- which if youve ever smelled almond extract is kind of the direction it goes here. It's definitely not like a creamsicle vibe. I think the almond works so synergistically with the citrus that it just makes them smell so accurate to the real fruit. All in all this is such a beautiful and therapeutic fragrance that can easily be unisex.

mo choudhury

just got this today and oh my days I wasn't expecting that!
I was looking for a summer scent. I'm from UK so most of my collection is winter fragrance.
only two summer scent I own is Sauvage EDT,
Bleu de Chanel EDT and Gucci guilty EDP. 🙄😒 (don't get me started. BDC I can live with)
but this! as a blind buy i didn't know what to expect with this almond note. but this, this is a 10/10.
and the price! the price is almost an insult for a scent that is Guerlain. 22£!
sadly ideal cologne apparently is discontinued 🤦🏾♂️
so it's now going into my discontinued collection and will be used lightly.

and this is for that average person for when summer arrives and just goes to a pharmacy, Wilko's or tk maxx to grab a cheap fragrance like cool water, joop, blue jeans, CK one. defo that CK one guy lol.
just buy Ideal cologne. 22£ for a quality like Guerlain, what more do you want?
and if you know that person please tell them about ideal cologne.

edit: if you thinking about getting Montblanc individual for your cheap summer scent. don't, just don't. be different and get ideal cologne.

SocalSJR

Beautiful fragrance it’s funny how as soon as this was discontinued and talked about as one of the best summer frags over on YouTube everyone jumped on the bandwagon.Smells like a Creamy/citrus bomb. Longevity is pretty good as far as I’m concerned, and projection is not at Sauvage level but it’s pretty good. Good luck finding an original bottle and people are already in line for it on discounters due to hype. Wish I would’ve got a few backup bottles worth every penny. Unpopular opinion but kind of reminded me of YSL l'homme.

Necroimania

Just got a 100 ml for $50 and pretty happy about it. Gotta give it a bit more time but so far projection is not the best. But the scent itself is a 100% winner in my book. Can't wait to rock it during the hot days. Beautiful and relaxing scent which cuts through the hotter weather and give you that fresh feeling you look after. Grapefruit and lemon is so nice in the opening with a hint of almond that sets it apart from athor normal circuses.

dangerous_notes

This was my go to fragrance last summer. I'd never thought that almond would work on a summer fragrance and I'm not the biggest fan of almond in general, but this one is very nice. Clean, creamy, sophisticated and fresh. Can't really overspray it, with moderate sillage and performance, typical of guerlain. For it's price (before it was discontinued) it was amazing. I stil have half a bottle, planning to finish it this spring. My gf also liked it immediately, so there's some potential for compliments as well.

spiceysauce5

Wow, this instantly became one of my favorites. So creamy and the best balance of thick yet light and airy. Immediately bought a backup as I imagine these will only get more pricey with time. A great spring but really year-round scent. If it wasn’t discontinued I’d imagine this would be my ideal signature scent. (No pun intended)

I should mention that I didn’t like the original, I thought it was unique but too sweet and syrupy. This fixed it with the nice citrus (not sharp at all) and really displays the almond well.

Bigmike650

Awesome fragrance👌🏽 This one is marketed as a summertime fragrance, but in my opinion it’s a little too loud for the hot summer days. I’d say if the weather is below 90°F then you’re good, because this fragrance is strong but smells really nice 👍🏽 sweet, citrusy and creamy is the best way to describe this one. I got lucky and purchased this one before it was discontinued. I only payed $20 for a 50ml at TJMaxx 😆👌🏽 Not sure how much these run for now days, but chances are you’re not gonna find this for $20 anymore 😂

sameenuk

I've come to the conclusion thst this just isn't that good and is overhyped. I like the very freshy almost sporty topnotes. As a skin scent , performance has gone after three hours and it's very very faint. Which is fine if that's what you like but at this price point it's unacceptable to me. The scent itself is a meh scent..overly soft and subtle. I think the base notes are actually s good combination but it's just a bland scent overall. Bottle is quite solid though. Maybe the flankers are better or this isa reformulation. Immprobsbly going to sell this rather than wait to use it all up.

Kronstadt

Without doubt, my favourite hot summers day fragrance. The citrus notes are not overpowering, with the almond providing a counterpoint that means the scent becomes grounded very quickly. Incredibly designed by Guerlain, L’Homme Ideal Cologne is a beautiful unisex (leaning masculine) fragrance that manages to merge citrus and a powdery base to perfection. Great performance for a citrus scent. It’s criminal that it’s being discontinued and I hope Guerlain have plans in place to replace it with something similar.

Just received a 2015 bottle in the mail today. Couldn't wait to see what this one was all about. Going off of the reviews here, I decided to blind buy it. And it's another blind buy SUCCESS!!! Man this is one, smooth sexy concoction. Love that opening. I tend to stay away from fragrances with grapefruit in the opening. Thanks Kenneth Cole Vintage Black! Turned me against wanting anything with grapefruit in it. But I'm my opinion, this is grapefruit done right. Nice and smooth, almost natural smelling. To my nose it's the note that stands out the most in the opening. I get the orange a little bit in there. I'm going off of 2 sprays to the back of the hand. Haven't had a chance for a full wearing as it's winter time. I have to admit though; when my central air kicks the heat on, the air is kinda cool for a bit. And I can catch that wonderful silage when my hand is near my face. This smells amazing in the air as well. So I think a somewhat breezy fall day wouldn't be too much for this fragrance to be carried along. I get the almond note too about 45 mins or so into the progression. It comes across really smooth as well. It triggers memories of the OG Ideal when you catch whiffs of it. I have the EDT, EDP, and the Extreme. Guess you can say I love that line. I don't think they're redundant at all. They all have differences that separates them, even though the feel is similar to a degree. So I have 4 from the Ideal line. But back to Ideal Cologne. Can't believe that I didn't purchase this one earlier. Started watching reviews on this, only to find that it's been discontinued. These fragrance houses, man I tell you, discontinuing their gems. Go figure! I'm writing this based off of the opening into the mid. Just wanted to give my first impressions on this little beauty. Almost tempted to try a full wearing tomorrow, lol. But it's hella cold where I am, plus it just snowed last night. Maybe I'll just wait for the first mild day to try this one out. C'mon spring!
I'll try to come back to give my thoughts on the drydown, if I can remember to....

beretis

This is my favourite spring/summer fragrance. It's fresh but the almond makes it interesting which is rare in this category. Longevity is good as well on me :)

Candyandy

Get this while you can!
This used to be ridiculously affordable for how high quality it is. Now that it's been discontinued for a while the stocks are drying up and prices are going up.
It is however still possible to find this one online on not completely shady websites. The prices have gone up and you'll probably be getting a 50ml for the price you would pay for a 100ml a year ago but even that is a great deal.
I suspect that as spring and summer come to the northern hemisphere in the coming months the stocks will sell out even more. I think the best time to get it was a year ago but second best time is now-ish (early 2021).
PS: be careful about the almond/cherry note. It can catch you by surprise and it's definitely not everyone's cup of tea. You can smell the same almond/cherry note in the original L'homme Ideal that's widely available to test so I would advise doing that first.

azev77

One of the two best citrus fragrances in the game, together with Edition Blanche.

Modest performance though...

samosbabos

I love this kind of realistic representation of fruits. In here there is a mouth-watering cherry from start to end. And good news is perfume doesn't change, it is uniform. Bad news is the performance, it doesn't perform more than 3 to 4 hours and sillage is close to the skin :(

kelkyang

This is a well-executed, smooth and effervescent spicy-citrus cologne.

I have been using up a few samples of this for a few years now, but only recently discovered I had a full bottle that I was given a great deal on when buying LIDGE a long time ago! For years, I considered this a spicy fragrance evocative of German cookies baked around the festive period. I never got any of the citruses and such that others mention, and found the Dior Homme Cologne comparisons odd.

Since starting to use from the bottle instead of the small official sample sprayers, it gives a very different feel. The opening is still very heavy and dense to my nose: I mainly smell pink pepper, vetiver and a sweet creaminess that is hard to describe. After seconds, it reminds me of those spiced festive biscuits again, a very pleasant scent.

As time goes on, the composition settles and the citruses start to shine. I realise that citrus notes are most volatile, so their presence should be felt less as time goes on, not more.. However, this takes on a strong citrusy shape with a lovely bite of spice. At this stage, it smells very effervescent and reminds me a little of Fanta or some other fresh sparkling citrus juice. Now I get why some associate this with DHC.

Finally, after some time the effervescent feel and much of the spice shifts into the background and the cologne settles into a very nice sweet and creamy citrus. It smells very smooth and perfect for many occasions. I find the quality and the smell impressive, this is a love for me.

Performance is better for me than most on here: about 8 hours of longevity, projecting for 3 or 4 hours. I would wear this in any season, for most occasions and it is definitely office-friendly.

Excellent stuff from Guerlain!

floralwoodymusk

Wearing this on a cold rainy day to see how a summery vetiver holds up. It's a nice background murmur of an affable scent. The almond and vetiver lean kind of masculine on me but it's never aggressive. I'm still on the fence about if it's a good scent on me but I think it's a solid work in general. It's kind of like an Erik Satie song - deceptively simple and calming. Good example of why Thierry Wasser is such a great perfumer - you can just put it on and walk out the door in confidence, no need to overthink if you smell good or if it is too much / too little of anything.

autumnrequiem

I got really, really lucky yesterday and snagged a 100ml unopened 2015 batch for a really low price.

I just can't get enough of this. It's so well blended, so invigorating and classy at the same time it's hard to believe this was discontinued in place of L'Homme Idéal Cool. The citrus accords are some of the best I have found in a fragrance ever, right next to niche perfumery territory such as Hacivat by Nishane.

This is a truly addicting concoction that WILL get you compliments if that's all you care about and has just enough depth to be enjoyed for oneself. Perfect fragrance for the summer and one of the best releases ever made. 12 out of 10.

gedlive

After being in the fragrance community for a while, with a large mostly niche collection; I would say recently Guerlain is my favorite house.
Someone said Guerlains are the only real fragrances.
Their Parisian exclusive collection is stunning, and allmost brings me to tears, to the beauty of these.

I noticed that their great masterful parfumers, also make great inexpensive fragrances like Ideal Cologne, Habit Rouge, etc.

Ideal Cologne is so well blended and enjoyable, niche in quality and blending.
The grapefruit and lemon are the most realistic I have smelled.
I would compare the smell to Aqua de Parma "Fico di Amalfi". In that its a super, fruity, citrusy pleasure. But Ideal smells more like a fragrance, than just a great bowl of fruit.
The musk and vetiver give it that.

The creamy almond is great and gives it originality. There are many nuances that are hard to pick out, that make it so enjoyable and well blended, as only Guerlain does, as Guerlain does.
It's a great freshy for cold weather, which is quite unique thing.

OK, I'm picking up the amazing Guerlinade, as in (lemonade).
They say Guerlain puts this slightly sweet mix of wood, spice, and something nice, in many of their fragrances. I'm picking it out now. Yeah this has major fresh citrusy notes, but there is a richness and depth also. As I mentioned making it a great fresh frag for Winter It cuts through the cold.

Oyster Tran

The creamy almond note is very strong and pleasant in this fragrance. It smells expensive, unique, and great for indoor situations. The projection is not good, but it lasts quite a long time on my skin. The projection on my skin is best at the first 30 minutes, then it turns into a skin scent. However, when someone comes really close to me, they can smell the fragrance. I can smell it on my skin even after 8-10 hours. Sounds crazy for a fresh fragrance, but it is true. I would not recommend this fragrance on very hot days because of the almond note. The almond note is very prominent in this fragrance; therefore, it creates some types of warm feeling. On a very hot day, wearing this fragrance would not be a good idea. I think this fragrance work best on summer nights and spring days because of the creamy almond note.

dawgmangatorraper

I absolutely adore the smell of lemons, and this has such a photorealistic interpretation of lemon in the opening. I think the pairing of the citruses and almond gives it more of a creamy lemon zest vibe. That being said, the almond in this fragrance is a hate it or love it. Unlike the lemon, the almond comes off slightly synthetic and might put off some, but I do enjoy the creamy, sweet, and fresh combination. It doesn't last too long- maybe 3-5 hours for me, but I really do think this one is a gem.

a7_mad1991

An absolutely delightful little gem!
Sparkly refreshing and uplifting, the citrus notes shine brightly
Got one off ebay, since its (sadly) discontinued
Performance is as expected from a citrus based scent
Really reminds me of chanel edition blanche (although less 'creamy')
Glad I got one before it disappeared completely from the market !

FragFuchs

Easy to like and a well rounden scent. It is not your typical summer scent and smells upscale and delicious. Can recommendt this one to stand out. It is an easy grab in the summer and adds a bit depth to the typical summer scents.

Kerveros

On my skin this smells like Mandarin orange bomb. Nothing else. I gave it after 3 weeks

tso

A very nice, classy, uplifting scent. Very versatile in my opinion, usable any season and situation, even though I prefer it at spring/summer time. The scent is quite unique for me; fresh and deep at the same time. The only downside is the performance, which is below average (at about 4 hour range).

The best about this fragrance is how it makes me feel. It always lifts me up and brightens my mood.

Blind buy? Yes. This is very easy to like.

dabatch

very pleasant, almost identical to allure blanche. big big compliment getter.

MORRRO-7

I highly recommend this fragrance especially with entering of spring at sunny days, for me the favourite one of this collection.
I am so sad when discontinued production and replaced by cool because of my opinion is more better.
If you find it front of you just buy it and you will not regret.

Chicago Tony T

Longevity is not as bad as some of the reviews say.I easily got 6 hours with 2 hours of sillage. Personally I'm not a fan of the Ideal line but this one is nice. Super versatile as a daily driver, work or casual scent for any weather except cold Winters. I like many others get lemons not grapefruit on a soft backdrop of musk and almond. Women can easily wear this one as well as it's not a super masculine scent.

Jonan

I was recommended this fragrance by a fellow perfume enthusiast about a year ago, he was raving about how great the quality was and what a shame it was that it was going to be canned. The smell is ok, nothing more. A fresh citrus/almond scent that doesnt really evolve on my skin. Except for getting weak really quick. 3-4 hours, then its gone. I see some people here saying this is ”niche quality”. I cant understand the term ”niche quality” In my experience there are alot of good and bad quality niche frags, just as there are good and bad designer frags. But if ”niche quality” is an ok scent with really bad performance then this one shure has it. A good thing it is cheap, would not pay more than 30-40 bucks for this. Another perfect example of a fragrance getting hyped up just because it is being discontinued, probably thanks to YT influencers.

Rated_mo

So if gourmand means smells like something edilble then that's a summer freshie gourmand..

It just smells 95% like these lemon candy we used to have as kids.. It's not so masculine however its a beautiful niche quality scent ..too bad it projections is soooo terrible I guess its something for personal amusement

Sauvarghhh

As mentioned, this is a luxurious summer fragrance and does well even in high heat.

The almond and grapefruit can be way too much if oversprayed. Solution: two on the chest and the day is yours.

Get it while you can.

Djedi

The opening is unmistakably grapefruit mixed with maybe a hint of bergamot. It's very refreshing. Quickly I get a soapy quality which is probably the neroli. I'm quite surprised people claim they smell a lot of almond but I barely smell any almond accord. That's not to say there isn't any of course. There is indeed a faint sweetness in the back but I wouldn't say it's reminding me of almonds per se. The scent itself is soapy on my skin with a bit of musk in the background. I can't help but to smell a musty quality which doesn't work well on my skin. It's a mediocre release in all honesty. Yes, it's discontinued and still can be found for a bargain online, but I surely wouldn't get out of my way to purchase a bottle. Calling this a ''summer gem'' or the like is strange to me.

The performance is very lackluster and it becomes a skin scent almost immediately. Obviously meant for warmer weather, it's highly versatile. I won't miss this one and frankly I believe Wasser can do much better. Your mileage may vary.

The hype is real. Delicious spring/summer scent.

doriandinu

What a luxurious scent! To bad is discontinued...

Fragmeister

One of my top 5 in my collection. Starts out with a burst of fresh lemon, dries down to a comforting almond. Niche quality smell here!

baliszonyi

The almond in this makes it too sweet and not pleasant for me to wear it, although that note seems to be an issue for my nose in the whole Ideal line. I have to add that it smells unique.

6opar

This grapefruit is being peeled under some sort of softly perfumed silky cloth so that it brings out just the fruit’s citrus essence. Thus it’s devoid of its pissy tonalities that sometimes I enjoy, and sometimes I detest.
The end result is simultaneously fresh and mellow, not citric or harsh, but then, not very invigorating either. A muted citrus.
It’s a casual scent for the dude who looks elegant even in his Sunday jogging sweatpants.

Musings of a Fraghead

From what I can depict from it, it's the almond that provides the creaminess and I get a lot more grapefruit than orange. The tonka is what adds the powdery element. It's Thierry's modern take on the Guerlainade using a powdery tonka instead of that powdery and floral vanilla. The clean white musk and neroli add a soapy clean texture to it being coupled with the tonka. I am surprised that almost no one mentions how much musk is in here. I guess that is why people think it doesn't last long...the dry down is very musky and not everyone can detect the type of musk they used easily. I get 6-8 hours out of it.

Guerlain L’Homme Ideal Cologne opens with a moderate projection of mostly sweet, almond, and citrus accords. The opening is soft, aromatic, fresh (because of the citrus) but dense (because of the sweet almond), and pleasant. The orange, bergamot, and grapefruit combine their notes into one that comes across as slightly sweet grapefruit and orange note, not bitter but not sour either; the pink pepper is a soft but noticeable touch. The almond is the featured note in this fragrance, a sweet nutty but light note. The neroli is a soft and aromatic white floral touch that also enhances the citrus notes. The vetiver is a faint and distant green note with little participation; finally, the white musk is projecting accord but does not make the fragrance musky. The white musk creates an airy, and clean projecting accord. The fragrance is linear, all notes come up as soon as the fragrance is applied and they continue into the dry-down. Once Guerlain L’Homme Ideal Cologne has reached its full dry-down, it can be summarized as a moderate projection, soft scent but dense consistency, sweet, almond, and citrus fragrance with white floral and spicy accords. The fragrance feels airy, casual, comforting, creamy, dense, fresh, inviting, light, mild, modern, rich, simple, sweet, unisex, warm, and very pleasant.

Grapefruit and Citrus opening, drying down to a creamy almond, musk and vetiver.

Its alright, nothing special.

A performance shocker though. Impossible to overspray, and only lasts a short time before becoming an ok skin scent.

Yeh I know citruses don't last, but life is too short, much like the longevity with this.

Binned!

This shares a similarity to Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche. Both are sweet citrus freshies. However, I do not like Edition Blanche. It is too sweet and piercing to me. In fact, I almost didn't like Guerlain L'Homme Ideal Cologne because it reminded me so strongly of the Chanel. However, Guerlain's version of grapefruit citrus is much more refreshing. Where edition blanche is a heavy slice of lemon meringue, Guerlain is a sweetened can of grapefruit pellegrino, 60 grams of sugar per can. It is effervescent, sweet, and refreshing.

This scent has a traditional Eau De Cologne feel, mixed with a modern citrus sweetness that I really enjoy. I probably won't buy another bottle. I already have a 1.7, and I like it alot, but there is so much more I want to try. If you like slightly sweet, this is a great buy!

Oh and the ATOMIZER! What a fine mist.

DISCONTINUED SUMMER GEM?

Opens with a light peppery citrus that leads to a quite linear sweet musk scent, with almond at the base just like the rest of the L’Homme Ideal line. A pleasant Spring/Summer wear, pretty light and inoffensive. Somehow however the composition feels unfinished to me. And it really doesn’t feel as fresh as the ‘cologne’ name might suggest.

Ideal Cologne straddles the line between fresh citrus cologne and oriental gourmand but it fails to fully deliver on both in my opinion. On the one hand, it’s not particularly fresh, sparkling or zesty. On the other, it’s not especially musky, spicy or thick like an oriental either. For me it awkwardly sits between the two, with a faint sickly, peppery sweetness throughout. The drydown is the nicest part though, as some woods and vetiver emerge to mature the composition and tame the sweetness somewhat. If the entire composition was closer to the drydown, I'd have to rate this higher.

I truly want to love this offering from Guerlain, and I admire the quality of the house, but ultimately all of the L’Homme Ideal line except the EDP have failed to deliver for me. The branding and marketing was on point, but that’s were I feel the creativity ended… if only they put more time into developing the scent.

> How Does it Compare? <

As an everyday cologne, Chanel’s successful use of aldehydes, florals, ginger, nutmeg and incense elevated Bleu to winner status for me, delivering a heavy dose of smokey grapefruit which succeeded in feeling sparkling, fresh and nuanced, and then drying down thick and musky. Chanel’s use of jasmine also elevates it, giving elegance, complexity and freshness to the composition. Ideal Cologne imho doesn’t deliver on that level of dynamic performance on skin or level of complexity in the composition.

As a high heat cologne, Aqua Di Parma delivers a fresh, clean, casual touch of class. Their ‘Blu’ line outperforms this in terms of quality, complexity and evolution of the scent. And they’ve got Mandorlo Di Sicilia too which is quite comparable to this with it’s strong almond accord throughout.

This composition is comparable with Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche too, because both are citrus based with a thick, heavier base behind it. But that’s where the comparison ends, because Edition Blanche is a far more complex, layered and full composition. It’s likability and wearability makes it worth 2-3x the price compared to this. Oh and if that wasn’t enough Chanels for now (lol) I get some reminders from the sweet vetiver drydown here of Chanel Pour Monseur too, and that has a more classic vibe and distinct personality than this I feel. All in my opinion are superior compositions than this.

> Final Thoughts <

6.5/10. Overall this feels quite young, unisex and a little unfinished for me. Ultimately this was a blind buy that for me failed to deliver. I feel this little guy is standing in the shadows of other scents that have a stronger composition and a more distinct personality. As I described here there’s better in every category for me right now and pretty much all at comparable prices. Nice musky almond drydown though!

I didnt hesitate for a moment to blind buy it a few days ago after being discontinued , i immediately sprayed it and surprise !!! Its a really good smelling scent but it honestly doesnt match all the hype it took by the youtubers , i was expecting a unique beast and what i got is a good relaxing type of perfume that doesnt carry the lhomme ideal DNA , its a good scent but dont blind buy it unless you are perfumes collector.

diaanz81

I bought this because of reviews that said it had an almond note however, try as I might that's the only note that I can't detect. This is a citrusy, mainly grapefruit, slightly woody and musky cologne. It's not your typical citrus, there is a sophistication about this one that elevates it. The image that comes to mind is off suave man dressed in a casual but crisp white linen shirt, white pants and nice loafers at casual brunch. Really like this one and wish it hadn't been discontinued!

Edit : I get the Almond note now and that is what lends a subtle creaminess that sets this apart from your run of the mill summer citrus. Grab a bottle while you can!

htondkar

This is not your typical citrus fresh type of scent, it's a sophisticated one.

The smell makes me imagine a gentleman (above 35) with a lovely smile on his face in a white suite with an orange pocket square and a lot of nice accessories.

js71

I cant help thinking of edition blanche when i smell this, the chanel is a bit thicker and creamier but the ideal is a very nice zestier alternative, blanche can be a bit cloying if over applied but this guerlain is a bit fresher, with me blanche has better performance but i need to try them in the heat for a better idea. There is no doubt ideal cologne is a gorgeous scent, i may get some back up bottles for summer use.

Stevie_D

Just have this on my hand for the first time, sprayed on 15 minutes ago. This is very different to anything I have so far. It's a lovely scent, the type to keep smelling every few minutes in pleasure. The grapefruit leaps out at me most so far... and its so well blended with the other notes. What a refreshing scent of pure quality in a great bottle too.

GiannisP

Just amazing! It comes fresh and sweet in a very unique way. It's bright and uplifting with some sweetness from the almond note which gives a gourmand vibe. This creamy sweetness and the almond makes it so different from all the other summer fragrances and very unique. I can see how some people think of this like a mature smell, but for me is very youthful, uplifting and unisex.

It has moderate perfomance, the longevity is a little better than average (about 6-7 hours) and the projection is really good for the first 2 hours and then it dies quickly. It's not for everyone, it's not the typical manly fresh scent but i think that if you have some experience with fragrances you will appreciate this. The price is just unbelievable for such a quality and unique scent (like most of the guerlain fragrances). It has got huge amound of hype after the discontinuation, but in my opinion it worths it!

jeremyn87

@smellyoul8ter it's not just you. It wasn't talked about all that often beforehand. Now it's on every top 10 list.

-------------

I do love the scent and think it's a shame it was discontinued. It's a pretty unique take on a cologne or summer flanker.

The grapefruit note doesn't stand out as anything particularly unique, but it's bright, juicy, and refreshing. What's more, it also persists for quite a while on my skin before it gradually fades away.

The creamy, nutty sweetness is where this really stands out from other summer flankers. It's not obnoxious, loud, or heavily sweet. Instead, it adds a gourmand touch with moderate sweetness, like adding a shot of amaretto to an otherwise dry or bitter cocktail.

The floral notes are more apparent in the base, which is paired with a fresh vetiver note, which is not as nutty or earthy as, say, the house's iconic Vetiver.

Longevity actually isn't bad. I get maybe 6 hours from it. I can get 8 or 9 hours if I go heavy on the trigger. It actually projects pretty well for an hour or two before it sits closer to the skin.

smellyoul8ter

Is it just me or did more ppl (ahem Youtubers) all of a sudden start loving this when it was discontinued?

AllRounder

Where to begin with this amazing yet underappreciated scent? I remember the first time I seriously got into fragrances 8 years ago. I pulled the trigger on a bottle of the hype king "Aventus" by Creed. My god, that scent BLEW MY MIND! It was the bottle that entered me into a whole new WORLD of different scents. My whole life was revolved around only 3 bottles over and over, a bottle of Diesel EDT, Polo Blue and Victorias secret Very Sexy for him. I was truly in the dark about all of the incredible different fragrances the world had to offer. Once again, that "explosive" feeling has returned! 8 years later, I finally got around to trying Guerlain Lhomme Ideal cologne, which is also pretty hyped. And I tell you, the hype is not wrong!

This fragrance is EXCEPTIONAL! INCREDIBLE! and the best part? It's UNIQUENESS! The burst of metallic citrus in the opening is indescribable. It made me feel like a fresh garden breeze just hit me in the face. The perfumer who thought of this should be engraved in history as a daredevil! To blend Grapefruit and Almond together is simply stunning! If you are a person who understands where I'm coming from with this, you need to try Lhomme Ideal cologne. That very first blast from the opening will give you a rekindled feeling of faith in the world of boring scents. After my first whiff of Aventus, everything else just seems "meh". In my 8 years of collecting different fragrances, only a few of them were actually exceptional, and worthy of that first time feeling. THIS, ladies and gentleman is once again, that amazing explosive first time feeling!

My ratings on thie scent:

Quality : 8/10 (An underdog of the frag world, not tried or given a chance by many people. If you were a noob, you wouldn't ever take a first shot at this fragrance. At least that's my take on it. The quality is there, most people just don't think so).

Projection : 6/10 (It's not a projection beast like most of your everyday "blue" scents or summer fragrances. HOWEVER, when you're out in the blazing Arizona heat, this baby WORKS HARD!)

Longevity : 9/10 (I get a full 7 hours from my bottle. I don't know why some of the other posters said they only get about 2 or 3. It may be due to either the weather they're in, or the humidity and moisture that's in their climate? I'm not too sure, but I live in AZ and this fragrance does incredibly well in dry heat).

Price : 8/10 (If I'm honest about it, I'd be willing to pay full price for a bottle of this. This blend is so amazing. I want to kick myself for not listening to some of the big fragrance youtubers who hyped this frag. But some times, the wait is worth it. Better late than never, am I right? I picked this baby up for 42$, which I still consider a pretty awesome deal for a 100ml).

Overall : 8/10 (Blind buy this if you're new to the frag world. This scent will ROCK YOUR MIND!)

Side note: If you aren't a big Grapefruit / Almond fan, then my mistake, don't be mad at me for liking it =D Use your own judgement with my review in mind!

lenawayj

This is probably one of my two favorite warm weather scents and definitely my favorite citrus scent. The almond notes round out the scent without being too syrupy or cloying. The vetiver in the base and drydown gives some great earthiness to balance everything out, without smelling TOO vintage.

Jitterbug

If discontinuing the best version in the line not a mistake, what is? Cool isn't a replacement. Disontinue Cool, bring back Cologne.

Took me an eternity to scroll down to the review window. That deserves a ballon in and of itself!

I’m ashamed with myself for neglecting this scent for so long.

I’m just not a huge fan of “freshies” - it takes a lot to feel special in a market where you’re pummeled year after year with the wave of blue and citrus throwaways. I suppose I had feared this would be a repeat, and so I avoided it.

After selling off more than 75% of my collection, I realized I was short on warm weather scents. I did some research - both mainstream and under the radar type stuff.

Could’ve gone with frapin l’humaniste. It’s a beautiful scent!

Could’ve pulled the trigger on edition Blanche - I’m sure I would’ve been happy!

Could’ve gotten a little weird and tried heely sel marin.

But - I went this route. And I’m just so happy that I did.

I’m absolutely in love with the opening. It has a shade of Chanel egoiste somewhere deep within. The smooth, fluffy, creaminess makes this a really unique option. Contrasted by the sharp lemon/citrus - it’s just perfect. I’m really happy with this, all things considered. I also learned a valuable lesson that not all summer freshies smell like a crowded 9th grade hallway.

This stuff is great! If you like Dior Homme Cologne and Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche, chances are very good that you will like Guerlain L'Homme Ideal Cologne. I pick up Grapefruit, Almond, Neroli, Vetiver, and Musk. For me, the projection is moderate and the longevity is good. I sprayed on 4 sprays in the morning and I can still smell this the next morning when I get in the shower. I was sad to hear this was discontinued, and I'm considering picking up another bottle while I still can at a reasonable price.

Br0wnsfn34

Discontinued? I am confused as to why Guerlain such a luxurious fragrance house would discontinue a gem.. This is one of the best summer fragrances on the market in my opinion..
Seriously?? Okay anyways.. This starts off with a blast of citrus.. The almond blends nicely and turns somewhat creamy.. Think of a lemon meringue pie. I get a nice vetiver closer to the dry down as well.. The longevity and projection aren’t the greatest.. I am going to pick up a couple back up bottles as I have seen the price go up a bit... If this isn’t a must have in anyone’s collection it’s definitely a must try

I prefer this over the original L'Homme Ideal! This is obviously a fresh take on the original. I pick up on the citrus notes, but there is a neroli note that is prominent throughout. It still has that almond note from the original. The base is nice and musky, I like the vetiver note. I'm sad it's been discontinued, but the way all the flankers are coming out year to year, it's not surprising. Luckily I have a full bottle, and it's cheap online.

BalkanFragranceLover

Just like the original, this is high quality fragrance, well blended with natural smell.
But again, just like the original, the cherry-almond cream top notes does not make it particularly suitable for masculine wearer.
This one smells like fresh summer lemony icecream with almond butter and cherry on top.
Last just as much as one would expect looking at the bottle - most summer suited natural ingredients are quite fragile and will need to be refreshed 2-3 times a day.

AJ1515

Love the smell, but just never really wear it. I've got this and two other freshies I am looking to part with on the very cheap. PM if interested.

SearchingScents

I would agree with @Izaaks perspective although I can attest to how that sweetness comes across in this fragrance. Those who enjoyed Chanel Allure Edition Blanche and enjoy Dior Homme cologne this one meets somewhere in the middle.

The color of the bottle resembles meringue a very French invention and desert of which this is suppose to smell like paired with grapefruit to give the “lemon” or citrus qualities of the typical lemon meringue pie. It is creamy like Edition Blanche and zingy and gentlemanly like Dior Homme cologne but not too sweet. I must also specify the fragrance is suppose to smell like the aroma of the pie not the aroma of when you eat the pie as the experience of eating the pie is much sweeter and more acidic and candy-like.

This one is a decent performer 6-8 hours and great work scent wafting off the skin very discretely as if its coming from somewhere else. Incredible composition!

Izaaks perspective

L'Homme Ideal Cologne gives me a similar vibe to Dior Homme Cologne but just a tad sweeter in the base. This wonderful composition is so juicy and smells refreshing. I really like this fragrance a lot and I'm sad they discontinued it. Time to break the bank :)

iraqpilot59

Once you spray it you get a very good quality of grapefruit and bergamot..then follows a very nice calm lemon cake smell in the Drydown and I can clearly smell the grapefruit or bergamot.+ not very manly scent.
Longevity : 3-6h indoors
Projection: people can smell you enough for left-right kiss 🙃and small silage

L'Homme Ideal Cologne by Guerlain

I got the original L'Homme Ideal the same year it came out, it was magic in a bottle. However, it was almost predictable it would make its way into popularity since it had, in my opinion, a good and easy vibe going for it. Partly because of this, and partly because of olfactory fatigue, I decided not buy a new bottle when I finished the first one.

The Cologne flanker took me by surprise. It definitely retains the dna of the original while taking it into a territory of light, breezy summer frags that do not scream for attention. It is inoffensive (maybe a little too much so), smelling faintly of pleasant citruses with a hint of creaminess, cleanliness, and a fleeting light woodsy accord, with the L'Homme Ideal dna framing it softly together.

I have a 100 ml bottle which I truly enjoy, especially now that you cannot find it in stores anymore, only online. Nonetheless, if I ever feel like spritzing on a lighter variation of L'Homme Ideal, I will be happy to move on to the Cool flanker when I finish up this bottle. Definitely a full bottle worthy experience of you like the original one.

Metolord

Smells sun creamy and extremely natural honey ... then I checked note breakdowns here I couldn’t find anything about honey .... like honey and combs together... light and natural ... oh my goodness yummy and creamy

greekbasil

prices are going up fast...smh ..this is so sad ..I have some backups but one day they shall be no more...the curse of the fragrance game

Rtiggs

Gotta say.

I was grabbed up by the hype on this one. When I saw Guerlain I thought this is quality so just get it especially for $20 @ Tj Maxx.

The result...This is just not a very manly scent.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a club Bangah scent guy
Or overpowering 80's powerhouse wearer either, but I like stuff that when it comes out of the bottle it smells like it was meant for a man.

I just don't get that with this cologne and I'm going to guess that's one of the reasons it was discontinued and replaced by Ideal Cool.

Is it quality..100%. Can I see why some would like it? Of course, however, there is something about it that screams I'm a perfume and not a cologne.

Ive had this bottle since last summer. I tried it and thought all day that I smelled female. I just pulled it out and got 3 comments. It smells like men's cologne, it smells unisex and it smells like women's perfume.

I never do unisex and two of us think it smells like perfume so it's a solid pass for me.

If you definitely like cologne to smell male without a doubt then I'd pass on this one gentlemen.

Again...its super high quality, but just too feminine for my tastes.

doriandinu

Excellent smell! Guerlain uses only high quality ingredients like Chanel and Dior! Love this house and this creation.

eau_my_toilet

Blind bought based on fragcom buzz and fomo of discontinuation. It does not smell bad, but I slightly regret my $30 purchase. The citrus and almond combo creates a creamy soapy shampoo smell. While that sounds nice on paper, it negatively reminds me of: women's deodorant, almond baby shampoo, a generic vibe of hair salon/women's hair products from the 90's, and my grandma's bathroom circa 1995. It is certainly unisex and very safe, just giving me a familiar vibe that is not for me.

Dhclover

I love the scent, its 10/10 for me, but it goes away super fast..

bertheymans

The opening is very much like the EDT, I still get more Amaretto than citrus which is a very good thing for this cologne. The heartnote has neroli and something reminiscent of candied fruit. The dry-down goes back to the start with hints of almond, backed by vetiver while the typical neroli cologne vibe fades away.

This all happens in the course of an hour.

4 sprays will give you some silage and the longevity is still OK but it's weak compared to the EDT as you would suspect.

Good for the office if you want to smell different. It will work in any season other than winter. It's light but certainly does not scream summer or freshy.

lostscent

The grapefruit note is the star and it's one of the most realistic grapefruits that I've personally experienced in a fragrance. It doesn't smell artificial like grapefruit candy. It actually smells SOUR and JUICY like REAL grapefruit.

In the heart, this fragrance gets interesting and I believe it's here where you can see this spring/summer scent being worn by males of a WIDE age range. The grapefruit gets supported by a "rum and coke" type accord, to my nose. Are the pink pepper, orange, almond and neroli notes combining to give this accord?!

To my nose and on my skin, I don't get as much creaminess as I hoped I would. I do get a soft clean vetiver smell (think Mugler Cologne) in the late, late drydown 5 or so hours later.

Wow, this fragrance is amazing! It's been on my wishlist for a while so blind bought it for my birthday since it's been discontinued and there will be limited stock from here onward. This is a gem, don't pass on this one!

The smell itself is fresh, clean and creamy, summery with the citrus. The grapefruit note is not synthetic in the slightest, the quality of the citrus in this fragrance is up there with my other more niche citrus fragrances in my collection. It's somewhat unique since it has a prominent almond note which isn't commonly found in the designer realm, and it's quite "old school" to my nose, but it's a timeless classic that I can't see anyone disliking.

This does not smell like a £20 fragrance, although the longevity is moderate at best, at this price point I don't mind respraying throughout the day. Projection is decent although I did test it in a hot climate so my experience may have been slightly biased. The bottle itself is high quality with thick glass, solid cap and strong atomizer. Honest to say that this bottle is even higher quality than my 100ml Creed fragrance that cost me 8x the price of this one...
